S2, Mission 2.1 - Team C - Made Me Do It

While you all struggle through jetlag and the change in temperature, you're given directions to the local police department. There, you are to meet Muriel, Michael's apparent angel associate, who's tracked down a lead towards the demonic energy they've felt in the area.  If people were smarter, the shock of angels being real wouldn't have been as shocking considering as you stride into the police department there's a clear outlier to the sea of black and blue suits. Muriel stands near the entrance, white suit adorned. They have white hair, a similar starlight scar across their neck, and a wing earring cuff around their left ear. Their eyes are a bright purple, which widen when they spot you all. "Ah the human advisories! Hello!"

Andy looks to Muriel and gives a tiny wave, offering a smile. "Hello! You're Michael's friend, I'm guessing?"

"Not all of us are human!" Nera beams at the new angel, stretching her wings just a little. She's once again happy to be associating with an angel.

Honey was perched on a very sleepy looking Ryder's shoulder, staring down this funky angel lad. "Hello, nice to uh- meet you."

Camis jet lag is hitting hard, which in turn has him in a bad mood but also not willing to talk as much. Win/lose? He'll probably get louder with time.

"Ah yes, a 'friend.' a person whom one knows and with whom one has a bond of mutual affection, typically exclusive of sexual or family relations. I believe you could call us that." Muriel nods.

Sushi blinks tiredly at the angel. "...That's a lot of words. Can we get this over with?"

Nera restrains herself from elbowing Sushi in the rib."Show some respect!" she hisses at them.

"My intelligence and surveying concluded an unusual spike of demonic energy in Brisbane, but I've been having issue narrowing it's origin point. However, I managed to find someone who has a strong amount of it wafting about them still. Purya Williams was arrested three days ago after killing her fiance. She claims she was hearing voices, telling her about him cheating on her and urging her to end his life; that she had no control." Muriel informs, ignoring this conversation.

"so,, are you saying she's the demon- or she'll lead us to it?" Ryder has listening to a lot of true crime.

"Sounds like she was pissed." Cami doesn't seem very phased by the idea.

Muriel doesn't really deviate from their neutral emotion. "Yes, quite sad. I cannot interact too much with Purya but I have claimed to be her solicitor to get you all into an interview with her. We need to determine if these claims are legit, and if so, how or why she was targeted."

"Oh. If that's what the demon does it sucks way more than the last one."

"Yeah, this one seems a bit more proactive." He thinks "So what are we looking for, exactly? Is there tip offs we should be listening out for while talking to her that makes it obvious this is demon work and shes not just, ya know, nuts?"

Andy nods. "Has she been reported for any shows of hostility?" Just in case they risk getting snapped at.

"I'll be relying on your judgement! In general, those possessed will have acted very differently from their normal behavior during the possession. I have a file here you can take with you during the interview." and they hold out a manilla folder to Ryder.

"Do you have any way to access the conversations the police have already had with her? Or have-" Ryder sparkled a little with the file held out to him. Woah. "Thank you. We will do our best."

Sushi cracks their knuckles. "Let's just go for it. It'll be piece of cake."

Ryder opened it after another nod of thanks to Muriel. Was trying to scan through the pages to give summeries for the team. "Is it a smart idea for all of us to interview her at once?" thought out loud as she skimmed.

"Do not hit her! She's been through a lot, she doesn't need to be assaulted also!" Nera feels like she might have to babysit the troublemakers.

Inside the file is basic information about the defendent, Purya Williams. Originally from Perth, worked in real estate, has 3 brothers and mother, father deceased. Was engaged to Robert Silvano, a finance broker in Brisbane. There's no criminal history on either of them aside of from a parking ticket on Robert's case. Witness accounts say the couple was always very lovely, but had been getting into more arguments over the last few months that had only gotten worse leading up to the event.

"I have no idea if you all need to be present, Michael said a group would be speaking to her. Maybe if she's still possessed you'll need protective back up!"

Cami crackes his own knuckles right by Neras ear. "Its a thing people just do. Relax, birdie."

"No criminal history, no accounts of domestic abuse besides bystanders mentioning more arguments." Flips pages "Respected people who worked well paying jobs, so there shouldn't be a strain from financials in the relationship in the base. Of course theres always possibilities of things behind the curtain... maybe we should ask her to clarify the affair suspicions.. or maybe theres gambling and other behinds."

"Stop that!" Nera balks away from Cami, taking several steps.

"Anyone can go crazy, even if they live nice." Sushi nods. "But I hope it was demons. Makes our life easier. Should we go now?"

Cami listens to Ryder explaining. "Arguments?... I mean if they were fine, then started arguing, cheating would make sense."

"Just,, um. Be gentle. Yeah? We should probably designate a speaker and build repore- uh. A kind relationship I mean. Despite your own opinions we need to make her feel safe."

Cami shrugs "Eh, it'll be fine. We can just ask her and see if she gives off serial killer vibes or 'wrong place wrong time' vibes. I've watched a lot of documentaries and cop shows, I got this."

"Think maybe we should ask her things one person at a time? Just so we don't overwhelm her." Andy asks

Andy looks at the others nervously, but nods.

"Cami, if you'd like you can keep an eye on her body language and whatnot to see how she may be percieving the questions. That's important." Does a loose flip of pages. "Last thing, is there anything any of you would like me to ask? Um, if you don't mind me speaking for the group. It's better so we aren't fumbling around." She's beginning to walk towards the room Muriel points to.

Nera looks worried and unhappy, but is glad at least Ryder is taking charge of the talking. She really doesn't want Sushi and Cami to mess this up for her more than they already are.

Sushi rolls his eyes, impatient to just get into the room already.

Muriel shows them to the interview room, through the sea of cops desks. The cops are definitely giving you eyes, mostly out of curiosity or confusion than anything else. Once to the door, Muriel opens it and introduces you. "Purya, these are the people I informed you about. They're going to ask you some questions. Please answer truthfully." and Muriel steps into the room's corner to observe.  Purya looks over from where she sits at the table. She wears orange prisoner smocks and has short brown hair. In all accounts, she just seems like a normal woman who's scared out of her mind. "H. Hello."

Andy gives a tiny wave and smile!

"I didn't mean it in a mean way!" Ryder squeaks. Well they're in the room now. Ryder shuffles to sit, but moves the chair so it feels a little more casual yessir. "Hello, I'm Ryder Hahn, and this is a few of my teammates."

"Hello! Everything is going to be fine, okay?" Nera says with a sympathetic smile, walking up to the table.

Sushi walks in and leans against a wall, giving Purya a vague nod.

"P.. Purya Williams. Nice to.. meet you all." she glances from face to face, before staying with Ryder's.

Cami looks her over. This woman looked like she'd been hit by a truck. Disheveled, exhausted, and still wearing her ring... He doesn't think whispering will go very well here, so he texts Ryder quickly instead. [She looks like shes been dealing with the guilt in a shit way. I've seen this shit before, and if she did kill him, it wasn't by her own will or sanity.] (Perception NAT20)

"I just want to clarify that we aren't law enforcement, everything you tell us will be either not affect or aid the cause here." Honey is curled up in the nook of his jacket now, watching this woman. "Can you tell us a bit about yourself and the relationship you , were in?" feeling the buzz against their side ryder glances at their phone. Oh. Nods in appreciation.

Purya blinks seeming a bit confused. "Muriel... mentioned you were demon experts... b-but if this won't help my case, w-why are we talking?"

"That's why I said help! It just won't hurt to say anything, any details at all that you think is good for us to know."

Purya sweats and glances around. Especially at Nera and her... wings and stuff. This feels very overwhelming suddenly.

Cami looks at Ryder. Hes... really not doing great at not sounding anxious himself... He thinks for a second. "Listen, since you've been informed of what we're looking for, that makes this easier. We need to understand as much of the sitaution as possible to help you here. I personally, have doubts that someone who did what the police are thinking on their own without outside influence would still wearing their engagement ring."

Purya blinks at Cami and quickly covers her hand, leaning back into her chair. "I'm- I don't know I just... if this somehow gets used in court against me.."

"What they mean to say is that while we can't help with your legal situation directly, that's for your lawyer's job. But what we can do is to help bring out new leads. We have a reason to believe that you were possessed by a demon, and if you indeed were, we can pursue that whatever information you may give us to give more evidence to your defense. Does that sound alright?"

Purya glances at Nera and finally concedes. Her hands go back to her lap as she looks down at the desk. "...Y...You're right... what did you want to know again?"

Since.. no one else was really saying much, Cami stepped in again. Also cause Nera succeeding erked him "We need to know when things changed between you and your fiancé. When was it that things changed between you two."

As Cami talks, Sushi begins humming a tune from his spot leaning against the wall, casting Zone of Truth. They may not realise that this means everyone feels it and has to roll charisma.

"Uhm... a-about two months ago?.." she sighs "e...every couple fights but... yeah it just. Started getting more frequent then.."

"Were the fights about anything in specific?"

"At first just normal stuff... who should do the dishes, who forgot the laundry... then it got. meaner. We'd point out each other's sore spots to win the argument, and it'd just make it worse... So. I suggested we see someone about it, but... It didn't seem to help."

"Like a councelar? Did you get it individually or as a couple endevour?" Ryder is strangely proud of her for doing that. "Did that feel helpful?"

"A couples counselor... she was sort of new to the area, but I had seen the ads all over the place and figured it couldn't hurt. At first it seemed like it would help, especially the group sessions.... but then... All I could think about was if he was cheating on me... If he was acting suspicious, or.... was he going to rub his salary in my face..."

Nera is really sheltered about relationships, her parents didn't really fight much so her only exposure to relationship difficulties is TV. She doesn't really know how to handle that so she's just following the conversation for now.

"N-Nothing substantial, looking back. Him dodging a call or text... leaving or doing something outside of his routine... it was like I couldn't fight the thoughts."

"Did you feel better after these sessions or worse?" Ryder lets out a soft hmmm "I wonder if we could find these ads too.."

Cami quickly pulls out his phone and looks the place up, also making note of the name she gave.

The name pulls up a fairly average looking building, with nothing particularly interesting about it. There's a website that declares being able to help couples through any problem, with both their personal and group sessions.

"You've said you felt like you had no control when you did the... y'know." Gestures vaguely with one hand. He isn't sure how to describe murdering your fiancé sensitively. "What do you mean by that? Like, can you remember it?"

"Weird..." He found these business in general to be odd. A demon inhabiting one wouldn't really shock him.

Ryder was taking notes in his own little notepad, nodding in approval at Sushi and Cami's line of questioning. She looked up to Cami and whispered "what's wrong?"

"I don't know... just like I just didn't have any control.."

"Yeah, but is that, like, literal?"

Cami leaned over to show the place he'd googled to Ryder. "It looks typical, but it kinda would .."

"So next step is a team checking it out? ...I'm going to see if there's any instances of domestic abuse reports from anyone else in the area too that would lead back." Waves the notepad a little bit. "Is there anything else we're missing?"

"Did you feel like a passenger in your own body, watching it happen? Did you think about wanting to not do the things you did, or did the thoughts of doing it overwhelm your mind?" Nera tried to give her more words to describe it.

"Not... exactly? I felt... I felt like myself but also not like myself... I could hear what felt like distant voices in my head, saying he's a cheater and he deserves to die..." her eyes water up "And then I grabbed the knife...." she sniffles "Robert why did this happen to you? Why did this happen to us?" she's beginning to cry now.

Andy's face falls into sad sympathy. "Does anyone have a tissue?" He asks the others quietly.

Sushi checks his pockets "...I got a reciept?"

Ryder was pulled away from the convo, he scooted a bit closer to her while pulling out fast food napkins from his pocket. "I'm sorry this is all I have." She sounded a little awkward with this poor lady being so sad. "Anything else?" She looks to the team

"I'm sorry you had to go through that. It's not your fault, I promise we'll get to the bottom of things." She's fully convinced she was possessed.

She sniffles and takes the napkins. "Thank you-" blinks. "Is that a rat?"

Cami staring Ryder down like bitch you brought the rats?

He shakes his head. "I don't have any-" Andy blinks, then looks at Ryder confused. Rat? Huh?

Ryder shoves bones' head back in his pocket. "It's a familiar, I'm sorry. I promise it's more magical entity than anything to be afraid of."

"...yes." He can, somehow, feel Cami's judgement at his rat care from a distance.

Bones' head pops out again. He's an old man he only wants his corn chips and pocket bed. "Is there anything else-" Ryder is sweating.

Sushi snorts. "Demon investigationists. Expect some weird stuff."

Muriel stands up from the corner they were leaning in and smiles. "Well we should get going then! Everyone file out please, hurry along" and ushers them to the door. "Oh Purya, I'll have to drop you as a client. I'm the lead detective's first cousin thrice removed. I've found a lovely replacement for you though, who will talk to you tomorrow. Tata!" And they shut the door to the interrogation room. "Well that went fairly well, I think!"

Ryder leaves Puryu a few more napkins before scuttling out, taking a few more notes while walking as he does. He may bump into the door frame oops. ",,I. Do think part of it is born angels and demons tend to not be naturally socialized to like , our standards. So not um,, inherently. Uh- Mean"

Andy realizes something. "Um- Sh-Should we warn the couples in our job about what could be happening? I'm worried what could happen if they went..."

Welp, that's Andy's queue! He waves everyone goodbye and thanks Muriel for helping them, then sets off back to their hotel.
