Dearest Clara,

Words of affection are not my strong suit. I have spent more time among books than I have in the company of others. In those books I have found passionate academics, of course, but very little wisdom in the ways of love. Before we came together I thought to swear off the practice of relationships entirely, but now I cannot help but search for answers in tomes I know contain nothing but stoic philosophy.

If it were not for your charm, your beauty and kindness, I might have locked myself away, never surfacing for anything less than an arcane miracle. Meeting you has changed me. I’m a bolder satyr, knowing that you wait for me outside the Archives. It’s worth braving the open skies knowing that I’ll be able to see you.

Words simply do not do this feeling justice, but I am told by numerous sources that saying what I mean is better than not. I agree - it would be a travesty to let you slip away from me because I did not speak plainly. You mean the world to me, and the fact that you have stayed with me through all my eccentricities only stokes the flame I feel in my breast when I think of you.

I love you, Clara.

Sincerely yours,
Marjorie
