Chapter 8

The sky was coated in the dark blues of night. The city remained as bright as ever while covering the stars that once shined as bright as diamonds. Skyscrapers dominated the landscape, soaring high in the sky and looking down upon the sleepless pedestrians below. But where she has to go is more in the suburbs, with houses looking more like hills compared to the towers in the city. As the people below were walking about, listening to their boomboxes either while walking or driving in their old  and busted cars, others stopped at neighbors’ houses for a get together and some parties, the pay phone booths were broken from baseball bats, as the booths and walls are coated with graffiti. The target was in a two-story house, one with blue walls and a grey roof.

She hopped from roof to roof, trying to be as quiet as possible, as the sound of people could be heard in the alleyways. The streetlights soon turned on, some flickering from need of repair, as Yuki used them as poles to get from one side of the street to the other. The sound of music leaks from some walls, as yelling came from others. She soon lands on the roof and slowly slides down the roof. She dug a knife into the roof, with a rope tied to it, as she scaled down to one of the windows, slowly prying it open with something akin to a pocket crowbar. The window opens as she slides right through, as she slowly walks across the floor to try to make as little noise as possible. Most of the lights were off in the house.

She hears a sink run from downstairs, followed by brushing. She goes a little bit faster and sees the target brushing its teeth, the only light coming from the bathroom it’s in. She slowly goes up to the bathroom entrance as it was rinsing out, the fauset not entirely off as the water kept slowly dripping. She quickly turned the light off, confusing the target, as she went in and wrapped a tight wire around its neck. It started spinning about, trying to get her to let go, until it slammed her back against the sink counter, hitting right below the shoulder area. She screamed out in pain and lets go, as she was then kicked away to the other side of the small bathroom. The figure got something, as he turned on the light.

The target was Peter, much to Yuki’s shock and horror, she began questioning herself. Peter was also in shock, but he tried to keep calm and collected despite him being shocked as well.

“Listen… Kid, stay here, I’m not going to hurt you.” he said as calmly as he could while his heart was still racing from adrenaline. “It’s going to be alright, the cops won’t hurt you if your here, just don-”

With Yuki scared, questioning herself, and not thinking straight, she just bolted out of the house, running past Peter, up the stairs, and leaped out of the window she came in, dashing off into the night with her mind trying to understand why Honsid wanted her to kill Peter.

“Kid! KID!” he yelled out as he watched her run off into the distance. He then laid on the couch, trying to relax before he called the police. But eventually he had to, dialling the number and calling the Police office Chief Caleb works at.

“Hello, this is-” the operator tried to say before Peter interrupted.

“Hi, my name is Peter Golivin, I would like to report a break in,” he asked, coughing between break and in.

“One moment… Golivin, correct?”

“Yes.”

There was a pause for about 15 seconds

“A car has been called to your area, please hold.”

“Thank you.” He hung up and waited for the car to come. As well as Honsid, listening into the conversation from his office, looking pissed. He then turned to look at the silver lamp, grabbing it and heading out of his office.

The car soon arrived, parking right in front of his house, as Ricky and a cop stepped out. Peter ran out to greet the officer and detective.

“Detective Ricky?” Peter looked surprised

“In the flash.”

“Why are you here?”

“Simple,” Ricky pulled out a cigarette and lit it, “I volunteered.” He started walking around the house, trying to inspect anything out of the ordinary, as the officer went inside to look around. Ricky soon noticed the knife and rope on the roof of the building, but only a reflection of the knife. He took out his flashlight and soon saw the knife dug into the roof. “Well… son of a ninja.” He smiled at the discovery, as well as the cheesy joke.
