Chapter One

Maddox was born in Hell and, like many other males, trained to become a part of Satan's army. Satan's army focuses on conquering Lilith's Void: the realm where all species of demon reside and rule. If they were to accomplish this tremendous task, the next step would be to overrun Earth. After a few years serving, he quickly rose through the ranks and was soon ranked close to the general.
Roughly ninety years later, he met thirty-six year old  Alva, however he only knew her as one of the general's servants. They didn't interact for a few years, although he saw her occasionally. Women are often discarded in Hell, especially the lower-class servants; he had no reason to pay her any special attention, nor did he want to. The only thing that partially drew him in was her vague peculiar scent, however he was quick to dismiss such a thing he deemed to be (for the most part) insignificant.
On a day when Maddox was scavenging, he overheard the general beating on of his servants for underperforming in a task. As he inspected closer, Alva appeared to have defended the servant; very much displeasing to the general. He spotted Maddox observing the situation, telling him to make himself useful by giving Alva a lashing. A mild punishment in Hell, yet a punishment all the same. Maddox felt Alva was out of line in pursuing trouble with the general, and then proceeded with the lashing.

Although, before Maddox could hit her, Alva retaliated out of instinct with Void magic.
Maddox was taken aback by this, as no devil is able to perfom such spells, just as demons cannot perform Hell-borne tasks. The only somewhat normal explanation for this occurance would be that a demon snuck into Hell and was disguised as one of their own, however Alva's ability to cast Hell-borne spells shattered that theory instantly. In Maddox's shock, he let Alva go and reported to the general that he lashed her.

Maddox did not see Alva again for some time. This was either because of the general assigning her with a different duty, or Alva was avoiding him. He hoped it wasn't the latter. When he did see Alva again, he approached her instantly. He questioned her abilities, and she reluctantly proceeded to explain her situation:
Alva is the product of a rare demon-devil relationship. This unusual mix caused her to develop abilities to perform both Void and Hell-borne magic. She is both part succubus and part devil, however she is mainly a devil; hence her residing in Hell and taking on a devil-spawn form. She does not have a succubus form, however she can create the illusion of one with her Void spells.
Alva quickly left the conversation after her explanation, however they did see each other more frequently after that. This new information caused Maddox to pursue Alva as a partner.

He pursued Alva for almost ten years, assigning her onto missions with him in attempts to get closer to her. Maddox saw Alva's dual ablities as a valuable asset in battle, and also an opportunity to produce powerful offspring. Devils are encouraged to reproduce rapidly so that the army has more soldiers to fight within it. A powerful child would put Maddox higher in the ranks by association.
Finally, Alva and Maddox began to come closer. They both recognised their similar desires; to be more respected by those in Hell. They then formed a relationship. It seemed (at first glance) transactional, however they both harboured deep-rooted feelings for each other which had developed over the decade. It is uncertain why this romantic bond occured, with devils being seen as creatures of pure evil. The most likely explanation for this anomaly would be Alva's part succubus heritage; causing her to have a possibility of feeling love, and maybe passing the feeling onto others.

Fifty years later, Maddox decided to use his new rank as a general himself to visit Satan and present Alva to him. They both knew this was a risk, as Satan could either accept her as a valuable asset, or consider her a traitor or spy of some kind. Although, they also recognised that this was one of the only ways to get Alva out of her lower-class servant status, and open herself up to more bounitful opportunites.
The meeting with Satan went much better than they had hoped, as he saw Alva the same way that Malix did: a valuable weapon. He sent Alva on small tasks for a couple years, as he evaluated her reliability. It was after these two years that he assigned her to a mission that would be life-changing for many.

Alva was to be transported to Lilith's Void as a spy, gaining information on the rulers and their future plans. This would be essential in Satan's plan to overrun the world, as he could strategically plot the army's next moves. His idea was for Alva to reveal her devil counterpart to the rulers, using that power to marry into their family. (Using her succubus charms in the process, of course). It was unclear how many years this plan would run for, so she was trusted to report back every few Lilith's Void months. Alva must also return to Hell immediately if the plan were to go awry.
After explaining the plan, Maddox and Alva were given a few days of preparation before leaving.

Maddox hated this mission. He repeatedly explained to Alva that is was too dangerous, and there was too much room for error. He then proceeded to tell her that the mission could potentially last for many years, and they would be too long apart. Maddox reminded Alva that a few months for her would be 6 for him, which would quickly amount to a lot of time whether she felt it or not.

" You are a devil, you do not and will never belong in Lilith's Void. "

" You will be a freak. They will burn you. "

" Your only place is here with me. "

" If you truly care about me you will not go"

Maddox and Alva violently argued for the few days prior to the mission. Alva believed it was foolish to refuse Satan, a fact that Maddox refused to hear.
The day prior to Alva's send-off, Maddox calmed down and presented her with two bracelets that he had crafted. They would each wear one, and the bracelet would begin to burn and glow red if their partner was in danger. However, the bracelet would not signify the partner's living status. Alva agreed to wear the bracelet, and swiftly left for Lilith's Void.

Maddox felt betrayed by her leaving, yet still decided to wait for her in Hell. He never took off the bracelet, wearing it around his neck.

He made sure to burn most of her things for when she came back.
