Admission Test! The Beginning of a New World

Dropzillas of all sorts talked amongst themselves with eagerness and apprehension, but mostly apprehension. After all, it was a big deal to be in a university, especially this one, the only one where they’re ever accepted. And yet, it also gave them a chance to get a second profession, to either help out other people or be what one wanted to be. It was a nice thought, to be something more than one was at that moment, but it didn’t make Angel any less worried. She fidgeted uncomfortably as she held the contract in her tiny hands, staring at it with a frown as she tried to push down her nervous feeling. She hoped that coming here would please her Master, finally she would be able to do something else other than just be there to look pretty! Even with Master’s blessing, it was still terrifying and what if she wasn’t good enough? What if she was sent home? Then she would have failed…that thought just made her heart ache and feel hungry. Pushing the thought aside, the Dropzilla looked up to see that the crowd had hushed and the gates had opened. Everyone got into a single file line and waited to hand in their contract for inspection. Swallowing thickly, Angel waited for her turn, feet shuffling slowly as the line moved along.

Eventually she found herself in front of the gates and was looking at the stern young man that was checking the contracts. “Hello,” she greeted shyly as she handed her contract. The dropzilla took it, raising an eyebrow at her name.

“Angel…Tree Topper?” She nodded.

“Yes…I chose it for myself,” she said, “My Master’s daughter wanted it, so…” He nodded and handed her back the contract.

“You’re good, follow the others to the main testing room.” Dipping her body in gratitude, she began to follow the other accepted Dropzillas into the school, heading straight for the testing room that the man had dictated. She continued to fidget with the hem of her dress as she did so, not sure that she would succeed in entering the university. If she failed, her Master would be so upset… Surely this was something that was unexpected, surely her Master wouldn’t want her anymore. And then… She pushed that thought aside as she took a seat, staring at the test book and the answer sheet before her. She bit her lip before noticing there was a hush in the room. Her eyes roved the entire area until it fell on a stern looking woman at the front. She gaped in awe at her beauty, heart fluttering, until the woman cleared her throat and spoke.

“Now I know all of you are eager to enter our prestigious university,” she said, her voice like silk being slid across the edge of a table. Angel’s hairs stood on end. “However, we will only accept those that have passed the test. It is simple, 200 multiple choice questions and three essays. I assume you all know what to do with multiple choice and essays?” There was no response as she scanned the room critically, no one daring to upset her. “…I see. The test has begun!” With that, there was a collective noise of everyone in the room shifting their books and bending their bodies to look at the test and answer sheet. Angel did the same, squinting at the tiny font on the book she was given and reading the first question. This was…a lot harder than she thought. And she had the sinking feeling she wasn’t going to make it.

There was silence as everyone did their work, the girl bubbling in answers she hoped were right while scanning for anything that could help her out. She had chewed her pencil out of nervousness, making nice teeth marks all around the middle. She hoped the university wouldn’t be mad for it, but she couldn’t help it. When she got to the essays, she realized they were easier because you had to write. She sighed in relief, feeling at ease over the subjects of the essays. Simple enough, 200 multiple choice questions were much harder. She wrote long and thoughtful sentences as best as she could, hearing drops stand up one by one to turn in their exams. By the time it was her turn, she was sweating profusely and hoped that she wouldn’t be judged for how poorly she did on the multiple choice. She just hoped everything was alright. However, once she turned them in, she felt the burden lift slightly and she scurried out of the testing room. Everyone done was ushered to the principal’s office to wait outside for the verdict, giving her more anxiety. What would she say? Would she be accepted? She hadn’t a clue? Angel could only watch as she waited for the results of her exam, hoping and praying that she would get in.
