Pinkie

Apricot couldn’t understand how Bonbi fell asleep so easily in such a remote, dark location. Then again she wasn’t sure how she was so easily able to fall asleep in the frosted mountains, but she assumed it had to do with Bonbi’s warmth.

It was cozy in the bedroll. Perhaps a bit too much, with the fire still going, just dimly burning now, and the fur of Bonbi’s cloak and half shifted legs brushed against her already warm skin. She couldn’t sleep truthfully, and she really, really tried okay. But the ground was lumpy and the bedroll too hot but the outdoors too cold with wind lashing and leaves of the trees shifted around them.

So she did what she always did. Recall her studies, going over her knowledge of her craft. Reviewing things, then questioning just why some species lacked knees, then making mental note to look it up the next time they were around a scholarly library. But no bones peaked her interest more then Bonbi’s.

Perhaps it was her half shifted form....no, it was defiantly the half shifted form. Just how was she before? How was she fully shifted. Did her bones grow? Do they grow even more when fully shifted? A whirlwind of questions filled her mind. None she particularly took note since, it would be quite rude to ask..plus the shifter has probably no clue. She could always ask to yoink one out, measure it and return it to its place. And maybe if that goes well, if- when the curse is lifted, Bonbi would let her yoink it out again!

It made perfect sense to her, born in a tribe who so casually pulled the bones of their children’s pinkies to show how such magic worked. But as much as Bonbi’s tribe cherishes bones, she highly doubted she’d let her just, pull one out of her.

Bonbi shifted in her sleep. Pulling Apricot close to her, and faintly, she could see the flickering of her ears- and for a brief moment, wondered if there was such magic to play with cartilage.

She huffed, her mind buzzing at her morbid thoughts that seemed so casual for her. She shifted her position to fit in the crook of her neck, leaning into her touch before shutting her eyes again.

Maybe, just maybe she can pull her pinky bone out. Just for fun.
