Dioe was born with a cursed left eye. It was entirely black with six yellow irises. Upon further examination it was found out that it was a demon eye—a rare, abnormal one.

This has never happened to a wizard before. Even wizards who have demon ancestry did not have this occurrence. Dioe’s family consisted of purebloods and they did not have any history of any demon relatives. They were also not born with any regular illnesses whatsoever so their eye could only be explained by a curse of a demon.

As demon curses were hard to break, no one could find a way to turn Dioe’s eye normal. Their parents consulted the greatest wizard healers, read up on different books, and even asked help from the upper demons, but to no avail. Dioe’s eye remained the same.

At first, everyone thought Dioe was fine even with their eye. It didn’t look too bad, and a simple eyepatch could cover it up. That was, until a few years passed and Dioe started seeing things, even with the eyepatch. Things a mere kid should not be able to see.

Dioe started seeing death. More specifically, they started seeing hallucinations, images of other people’s deaths. Wherever they looked, they would see how they were going to die. Being stabbed, poisoned, impaled, electrocuted, et cetera. Dioe could see it all with their left eye. It was only glimpses. Flashes. But Dioe could see in vivid detail the future deaths of their friends, and even people they don’t know.

The worst part about it all was the pain. Dioe could feel the pain of each death as the hallucinations appeared. It was easy for them if the cause of death was quick and painless but occasionally, they would experience those deaths that took a long time.

The pain would drive Dioe absolutely mad. Dioe tried isolating themself from people to avoid seeing those horrific imageries but to no avail. Wherever Dioe went or stayed, their eye would show an image of someone who died in the spot Dioe was looking at. And even going to absolutely isolated places no one has ever been before didn’t help. The eye would show memories of past people’s deaths. There was no stop.

As they grew older, the hallucinations and flashes of pain would be more frequent. Dioe was starting to become unaffected by their friends’ future deaths even though it still hurt. They wanted it to stop. They wanted to live a normal life. Dioe wanted to gauge out their eye.

They finally did it. Dioe managed to remove the cursed eyeball despite all the pain and blood. The hallucinations stopped. The flashes of pain stopped. Dioe was happy! They had to wrap their eye socket with a ton of bandages but for once, everything was fine.

That was, until they went to sleep and woke up the next day.

Upon waking up, Dioe felt a sharp headache, specifically in the place where his demon eye once was. They went to the bathroom, looked in the mirror, removed the bandages, and their they saw it. The demon eye. It was back, looking completely untouched despite the dried blood around their face.
This did not stop Dioe. Every day, they would gauge out their eyeball and crush it. Dioe’s parents were mortified when they found out what Dioe had been doing and sent them to a hospital to be watched over. Sometimes the pain and the blood loss would be so immense that Dioe would faint after taking it out. But they didn’t care. They were just so tired of having to see death everywhere they went.

Most of Dioe’s life would be spent at the hospital being monitored by doctors. At their request, they wanted to be isolated from everyone except for a few people. Being alone and having no one to talk to, Dioe wanted to specialize in dark magic, though their family line specialized in fire magic. After reading through some spellbooks they found out that dark magic could stop their cursed pain, though temporary. Light magic was not enough because light magic was better at healing simple wounds and curses. Dark magical energy was closer to what the curse was made of so it would be more effective.

As completely removing the eyeball permanently was impossible, Dioe had to find a way to at least stop the hallucinations. Through years of trial and error, Dioe was able to make an eyepatch that would halt the pictures of death. On the outside it looked normal. But on the inner part of the eyepatch were tiny written symbols imbued with dark magic to serve as a sort of barrier between what Dioe sees and their memories. Its effect would only last for a day so every night Dioe would go down to their basement to perform incantations and imbue the eyepatch with dark magic. Missing a day would mean hallucinations would always appear, as well as agonizing pain.

Since Dioe chose to isolate themself for most of their life, they took up the job of travelling merchant and family store manager to make up for lost time. Being able to walk around without experiencing pain and death was a nice feeling to have. Despite customers constantly annoying them they do still enjoy what they do.

Despite this, Dioe’s true goal is to search for a concrete way to remove their eye or turn it back to normal. Years of experimenting on herbs, potions, spells, and whatnot has taken a toll on Dioe but they won’t stop until the curse has been lifted for good.
