The entire township of Lerwick, as it stands right now, is little more than an extension of the mayor's modest home. He anticipates seeking those to join him in the budding town, even though for now it's an area that's basically in the middle of nowhere. The center of the town is populated with market stalls and more clear space to erect more shops, and few small homes are scattered in the trees where the mayor could feasibly build them. His background as a carpenter aided him in this crucial part of the town's first steps and saved him more money initially than he thought. The mayor was careful not to build the town around a lake; though the homes and shops are within walking distance of one, the only bodies of water within the town are clear-flowing streams that promise both clean drinking and bathing water. He's fortunate to have found natural barriers for the town, as well; with the lake to the west, mountains to the north, and arid grassland to the south, he's confident that the town can be protected from distant threats, but he's working on building a protective wall to keep out more immediate threats on Lerwick's horizon.
