And maybe at first he does the thing in canon where he tries to set them up and have Koutaro return Ming’s feelings, but also trying to find a back up cure

But then Kan catches the disease, but it’s only apparently when he first coughs up flowers in his own bathroom and he’s smart and figured out well

I obviously got this from Ming, no shit... and this means I like... Ming because also no shit who else can it be

So he’s still trying to help Ming all while hiding his own symptoms so Ming wouldnt feel bad or feel responsible for it. And he sorta beats himself up for not being careful. But helping Ming and Koutaro get together accelerates the severity his own disease bc Kan has a weak immune system to begin with, and it’s just prolonged exposure to Ming, and to the feeling of envy

Meanwhile Ming sorta feels like his own disease settling down for a bit when he’s around Koutaro so he’s like ??? Am I being self cured because Koutaro might feel the same or is it because of something else? So at some point Ming might deem it safe to confess to Koutaro to get closure? (I dont know if this is IC but feel free to jump in to add/change/fix anything Im just throwing the idea out there)

But Ming is a smart boy and can probably catch on that when he’s alone with Koutaro, the symptoms are not as bad, but when he’s with both Koutaro and Kan, it flares up again but nothing major. He also notices that Kan is probably looking a little more tired and weary but Kan assured him its because he’s been staying up late researching and so it’s the lack of sleep getting to him

So Ming comes up with his own theory because he’s smart like that, but he theorizes that he’s probably losing romantic feelings towards Koutaro and developing them for Kan, but there are some lingering/residual feelings for Koutaro because feelings are messy and they don’t completely disappear, plus he doesn’t have the closure from Koutaro yet. So he wants to test the theory by confessing to Koutaro (and Koutaro probably knows about the disease but Ming is quiet/private/distant about it so he doesn’t know it was towards him). He knows that the disease would flare up exponentially if he’s rejected, on the condition that most of his romantic feelings are for Koutaro. Otherwise it might fizz out. So when he does confess, Koutaro is probably conflicted bc lying wouldn’t help Ming’s case, but rejection may worsen it if Ming’s feelings are still active. But then he’s surprised when Ming tells him it’s okay to reject him because he’s always known Koutaro wouldn’t feel the same way, and that he think he’ll live (in a light, soft teasing way). And Koutaro does because he feels reassured by the way Ming is conversing with him, and nothing happens. So they’re both relieved and have a friendship moment together where Koutaro is like, I’m glad you’re cured. Maybe hug it out. And Ming is like uh... not exactly cured, but he doesn’t tell Koutaro that bc he doesn’t want Koutaro to worry anymore (or maybe he does tell Koutaro... who knows... well you would. I dont LMAO)(edited)

Then there’s Kan who’s feeling like shit at home and coughing up a storm because Ming probably told him that Ming was planning to confess to Koutaro and the idea of Ming admitting his feelings to Koutaro outloud causes deeper irritation in his lungs and causes more violent coughs. Ming had asked Kan to come along if Kan wanted to gather information on the effects of confessing and rejection, but Kan is smart enough to know his envy would cause the disease to flare and his weaken state wouldn’t be able to handle holding back the flowers, so he turns Ming down. But when he’s left alone at his clinic, he keeps thinking about it and the thought makes him sicker, so he ends up coughing so violently and he’s just sitting in his own pool of flowers. But it only makes him more stubborn about researching a cure for it

And when he first met Ming and found out about the disease, he actually told Ming that if there’s a fix for it then Ming should have just undergo the surgery because if it were him he would have gone through with the surgery. Ming probably explained why he didn’t go through with it (maybe like feelings should be cherished or he wants to hold onto the feeling of being able to love someone or his fond memories of Koutaro since Koutaro is important to him). And at the time Kan told Ming that it sounds stupid and he doesn’t understand that sentiment. But now he’s on the lab floor by his desk, surrounded by flowers and coughing up more and thinking about how he’s the stupid one and that he understands now why Ming wasn’t willing to take the risk of surgery

But then Ming calls him to report the results, but Kan is worried that if he picks up then it would give him away so he ignores the call. Ming just thinks that Kan’s too absorbed into the research to pick up, so it’s fine, he can come to Kan. He heads over to the pharmacy and it’s still open which means Kan is home. So he calls out to Kan and is like hey are you in the lab, I’m coming down.

Kan hears Ming and starts freaking out because there’s just flowers scattered all over the lab floor and his throat is strained from all the coughing. So he’s scrambling up to try and clean up all of his flowers and dumping them into the trash, esp the blood stain ones bc he can’t lie about fresh blood stains. So Ming makes it down and Kan is like “wait, not yet, it’s a mess right now, let me clear the lab for a bit” and Ming is like okay weird, even when Kan gets into something he usually doesn’t make a mess because he’s so strict about keeping a sterile environment in the lab and clinic

So maybe Ming waits by the lab entrance until Kan is done because I just feel like Ming is the type to do so instead of just barging in andjakfnsknd but correct me if I’m wrong. And when everything is cleared off, Kan comes to greet him like hey, uh, I wasn’t expecting you. And Kan is a little out of breath and winded and his voice is a little raspy, which Ming thinks is suspicious but attributes it to Kan just being tired and feeling out of breath from cleaning up so quickly (believable because this is the same guy who passed out on their second meeting after a hike up a not very steep hill)

He invites Ming in so Ming wouldn’t be suspicious bc he knows Ming is smart and observant and while Kan loves that about Ming, in this case it makes him a little nervous, so he’s wringing his tail and breaking off small pieces. Ming does find Kan behavior off, and sees the anxiety tick but decides not to comment on it right away. Instead he tells Kan that he just got back from confessing to Koutaro

Kan is trying to play it cool by evening out his breathing and catch his breath, but he immediately notices how Ming looks significantly healthier than he previously did when Koutaro is involved in a conversation (but it’s because Ming was able to confirm that he doesn’t hold romantic feelings towards Koutaro). So Ming is like, wary smile good news, I confessed and I’m still intact.

But before Ming could clarify that Koutaro had rejected him, Kan’s brain made a jump that was just [Ming confessed > Ming looks healthier than he’s been for a while now > Ming is cured > Ming is cured after confessing therefore Koutaro returns his feelings], and Kan can’t hold back the oncoming wave of coughs and just coughs up huge bloody flowers in front of Ming

And Ming is like... super shocked. So shocked that it takes him a moment to register what was happening before he springs to Kan’s side and help hold him up because Kan’s attack is so bad

And Kan is trying to hold back tears because he feels overwhelmed by the idea of Ming’s feelings being returned and because the coughing and the flowers is so suffocating, and the sweet smell is no nauseating that it makes him feel worst. And Ming is in full panic mode because his brain is trying to catch up on the situation that’s unfolding before him with the first major issue to address is that Kan has hanahaki, and it’s not just early stage hanahaki. It’s late stage and it’s really bad. It’s not even petals, but Ming is catching full bloomed, slightly bloody flowers between his fingers and his brain is racing because it doesn’t have time to assess the situation bc the priority is to calm Kan down.

But eventually the wave stops and Kan gets a moment to breath, but he’s really dizzy and out of breath and his voice is scratchy as hell. And Ming is like WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME YOU HAD HANAHAKI? WHEN? HOW LONG? He doesn’t bother asking how because he knows that due to Kan’s prolonged exposure to him, Kan could only catch it from him. Ming can also figure that Kan’s case is more severe than his own bc Kan was weak to begin with so he didn’t stand a chance of slowing the disease down. But what he doesn’t understand is that Kan told him previously that if it were up to Kan, he would have gone through with the surgery, so why hasn’t he? This is late stage hanahaki which meant that Kan have been hiding it for a while.

Then it clicks in Ming’s brain that if Kan has hanahaki symptoms, and severe ones at that, then it means that Kan is in love with someone. Really in love with someone. And then suddenly Ming starts coughing again (but it’s nowhere as bad as Kan’s recent attack). Which made Kan confused because then he’s like wait.... you’re not cured. I thought you confessed. You looked fine, why are you still coughing?

And after Ming had stop coughing and collected himself (all the while still holding Kan to make sure Kan doesn’t fall over or faint), Ming is like, I came to tell you that the rejection didn’t have a major impact because I don’t have feelings for Koutaro anymore. After hearing that from Ming, Ming could feel Kan’s shoulders sag in what was probably relief before Kan tensed back up for another coughing fit.

When he was done coughing up some more flowers, Kan is like okay, well that leaves us with the obvious question of if you don’t have feelings for Koutaro anymore, then why the hell are you still sick? And Kan already knows the answer to that, hence why he hasn’t really been able to stop coughing. He keeps thinking about how Ming started falling for someone else and the thought keeps the flowers going.

And Ming probably calls Kan out on it, like you should know why. I still have unrequited feelings for someone, but let’s address your situation here. You told me that you would just get surgery if you ever contacted the disease. Judging by the bloom of your flowers and the frequency of your coughs, this has been going on for a while and you don’t look like you’re planning surgery anytime soon. And Kan grimaces like damn, you got me there. He loves Ming’s ability to recall information , but right now he fucking hates it. Kan feels a little cornered and eventually caves and admit he finally understood Ming’s sentimentality from when they first discussed the disease. Even if he’s dying, he doesn’t want to give up these feelings and risk the memories. Probably makes a joke about how it’s fine because Kan was already dying at a faster rate than most sprinkits, so what’s a little harm in some more acceleration (which probably earned him a dirty look from Ming)

But Kan would just cave like sighs, fuck it, what do I have to lose. I’m already stage 5 hanahaki ontop of my pre-existing conditions, I’m already dying at a stupidly fast rate so what do I have to lose? And he’s just like

“It’s not often I meet people I can connect to easily. Other than my parents, Lon, and someone as eccentric as Suika, and you, who else do I show my vulnerable side to?” Small voice in the back of Ming’s head like “oh my god is it Suika?” And he probably doesn’t consider Lon since if that were the case, then Kan would have developed symptoms immediately upon contact with Ming’s flowers, but for a good while Kan was perfectly fine. Which meant it was someone he met later on, either a bit before he met Ming or a bit after, or around the same time.

And Kan is rolling his eyes and sounding exasperated (even with a raspy voice) like “This is my punishment for being too arrogant thinking that I’m above romantic feelings, and that even if I came in contact with the disease, I would still be asymptomatic because I don’t harbor romantic feelings towards anyone. But the world is unpredictable and not even a genius like me would have guessed that I would develop feelings for you.”

And Ming’s head is just like

And Kan starts coughing again, and in between coughs he’s just like “can you give me a moment to brace myself for the rejection? I don’t think I’ll get off as easily as you did.”

And I guess this is where Ming confirms his own feelings for Kan, and it ends w Kan choking mid cough on a flower because it just stopped but he was in the middle of coughing it out LMAO. So they had to smack it out of Kan (mm romantic). I don’t really know how Ming would go about it and I wrote so much for him w/o your input, but this is the end so feel free to just correct and change anything that Ming and Koutaro would do

EDIT GOES HERE: Ming is the one that went in for the kiss instead of just confessing, but does so mid-attack. Good news is that it instantaneously stops Kan's attack. Bad news is Kan still gotta spit that flower out LMFAO.

BUT UH YEAH, HAPPY ENDING BC THEY BOTH END UP CONFESSING TO EACH OTHER THE END. Kan kisses Ming and that’s the end of that haha. 1.25hrs later...
