Naughty

Skylax darted over the open plains, running up to a rocky outcrop and soaring over, gliding over the snow covered terrain; in the distance a settlement loomed, its wooden gates still standing strong even against the blistering weather, the dragon thrived in the wintery weather, though he was starting to feel the first pangs of hunger, as a result he headed for the settlement…. It was a long shot, but maybe someone would have some food spare… either that or he could hunt.. Barking a greeting as the guards peered at him, but they let him through.

Tyna grumbled, slithering over the cold ground and into the town, her body melting the snow below… she was hungry…. She knew that food did become scarce, but she was literally starving it had been a full day since she’d fed; and keeping the cenote warm was energy consuming. She waved as one of the guards greeted her, she was known here… almost all of Meiron’s dragons were. A sudden bark had her turning her head to peer at the interloper, the shark like dog dragon skidding to a halt, mere inches away from her horn. “Oh, hello.” He said. “Aren’t you a bit far from the ocean?” He asked cheerily, his tail wagging…. He looked like an ocean dragon in some aspects… but she didn’t think he was.

“Hi.” The huge hammerhead dragon responded turning her head to one side to peer at him, Skylax didn’t mind, he’d not encountered a dragon like her before. “Yes… but the ocean has iced over and the fish have dove deeper. So finding food is harder.” She responded, curling up, steam rising from her body as the snow melted; that caused him to look closer… she looked like an ocean dragon…. But ocean dragons didn’t melt snow that quickly… or gave off as much heat. “I’m hungry as well..” He admitted, sitting back on his haunches. “I’m Skylax… maybe we can find food together?” He said.

Tyna looked over him, he was so…. Innocent, that was the word, and much smaller than her… which meant maybe he could help… though if they got caught...... “I’m Tyna. I do know of a place where there is some food, its normally available for people and dragons to pop in and help themselves.” She started, clouding her voice in sadness. “But, with the cold weather they’ve semi shut it so that racoons and foxes don’t get in… but they didn’t think about those of us who are simply too large to go through the normal door.” Tyna said, lifting her head and pointing at a very large, out of place house… okay it wasn’t actually just for anyone… but the owners were cold and unfeeling, and way to well off.”Um sure?” Skylax barked, darting off…. And halfway there before realising that Tyna moved much slower; circling back he kept darting off and then returning.

Eventually they arrived at the house and Tyna slipped into the back terrace, no lights were on and Tyna knew the owners were away, tomorrow they would return and feast…. Easing closer to the door, Tyna pulled on it, revealing the clasp inside that held it shut, for the owners never bolted it… who would dare steal from them after all. “Can you nudge the clasp off?” She asked, Sky peered at it a moment and using a claw managed to loosen it. “There?” He asked as the door swung open, he could see why Tyna couldn’t get in;. “Good boy.” She purred, petting his head, grinning he wagged his tail. “Now inside and to the left is the pantry, it has all the food, now we don’t need all of it… but several plates of fish or meats would be nice, can you bring them out.”

Not waiting, Skylax crept into the house, careful not to disturb any of the pretty items about, thankfully he didn’t have to go far, and Tyna was right, what a feast, plate after plate of food, some he recognised, some not, carefully he gripped the first plate and headed back the way he came; to see the Tyna moving some wood in the back terrace. She nodded at him when he placed the first plate, and he went back in, until there were about 10 platters of food in total. “This enough?” He asked.

Tyna glanced at them, personally she wanted more, but that might make the other dragon more suspicious so she nodded. “Yes.” Turning her attention back to the pile of wood she concentrated eyeing the fuel thoughtfully, she liked raw food, but cooked was better. She was aware of Skylax next to her, and as the heat haze appeared around her, she spat a flame ball at the wood, watching it ignite … though she may of used a bit too much elemental energy, hissing she pulled it back down to a manageable level and picked up the first plate, holding it in the fire easily, adjusting the temperature as she wanted, the magic flowing easily now.

Skylax blinked as the magic erupted, but the smell of cooking meat soon had him drooling, and when the hammerhead passed him the first plate so he could eat. “Thank you.” He yipped, before eating the food as the female cooked her own platter.

It was as they were on the last plate, that Tyna’s head shot up, eyes narrowed she looked back over the town. “Curses.” she muttered, that initial blaze must of caught the town folks attention. Concentrating on the fire she put it out, until a simple wisp remained, along with the burnt ash; gobbling the food down quickly she turned to Skylax who was looking quite drowsy. “Well… it's been fun, but if I were you I'd leave town.” Tyna whispered, sliding off into the darkness, she had no wish to be discovered,

“Huh?” Skylax said, blinking as the dragons fluke vanished, he too could hear the sounds of the town folks, and the first inkling that something was off filtered through. Hesitating for just a moment before ehe too ran off into the night, but as he reached the outskirts of town, the hammerhead was nowhere to be seen and he was positive she'd been slow before, still.. He was full and sleepy… maybe it was time to return home..
