"Thanks for totally helping me, brah," Chad beamed despite it not being visible behind his Bloodborne-cosplay-but-actual-hunting-outfit. "I heard this, like, ghost haunts the old hotel and is totally scary. It'll be rad for you to help out just like old times, ch'yeah!"
"I'm only doing this because you'd try to hurt it otherwise," Clara huffed. "You did that last time, too! You kept charging headfirst to attack when we could have just talked to them!"
"Ch'yeah, totally."
She rolled her eyes. Of course this doofus wasn't listening. Although she had to admit, it was good seeing him again. It had been a while since she'd seen a lot of her friends from Hallows. Some she still kept in touch with, but for the most part it felt like half of them fell off the face of the planet. Imagine her surprise when one of them contacts her and explains that he's now a hunter! She thought it was Chad's next attempt at clout until she saw him in the actual garb with a modified selfie stick (which took a lot for her not to burst out in laughter over).
The two made it to the hotel, which was a simple, not too fancy, not too bland place. The owner greeted them and explained the situation in general. There hadn't been any death reported, not even an injury, yet somehow a ghost had started to roam the halls! Several residents had complained about it, with many more ending up leaving out of fear. Business was plummeting, and the owner was at a loss what to do.
"First thing's first," Clara murmured while pulling out her pendulum once it was just her and Chad. "Oh spirit," she called out, "if you're here with us, please move the pendulum! Please spirit! Please show us you're here!"
... Nothing.
"That's weird," she muttered while gazing at her pendulum. "Why isn't it moving...?"
"'cause that ghost is totally here, brah!" Chad said while pointing down the hall. A white blog with two black dots for eyes waved around menacingly at them, spouting a ghastly, "OooOOooOOooOOooO!"
"Like zoinks, bro!" Chad gulped while jumping into Clara's arms. "We've gotta get out of here!!"
The duo ran as fast as they (or Clara) could from the ghost that was close at their heels. They went through one door, then another, then the kitchen sink, then another door, until finally they found one room to stay safe in. Tossing Chad to the bed, Clara spun around and pulled out a small vial of salt that she poured around the door. "There. That should keep it out," she muttered.
"Aww man, bro, I thought you quit," Chad frowned.
"It's not drugs!!"
"Brah, if you totally want, I can help you."
"I SAID IT'S NOT--"
The door swung open to reveal the ghost. "OooOOooOOOoOOOOo!" it wailed and took a menacing step over the salt line.
"Wh-What?!" gasped Clara as she staggered backwards. "That... That can't be! Y-You shouldn't be able to cross that!"
"ooOOoOOOoOOoO!" replied the ghost.
"Clara, get back!" Chad jumped off the bed and slammed the pillow on top of the ghost, causing it to stagger backwards. He kept up the aggressive pillow fight until the ghost was backed into a corner, completely outmatched.
"Alright, brah, how do we exorcise this dude?"
"We don't," Clara shook her head while going over to the ghost. "Because this person's not a ghost at all!"
"What??"
"OoOoO??"
She gave them a confident smirk. "I should have known the minute the pendulum wouldn't swing. There was never any spirit for it to sense, and it's also why you were able to cross the salt easily. And!" She pointed to the bed mattress. "This bed doesn't have any sheets on it. That can only mean one thing! You're alive!!"
There was a collective gasp.
"Then if it's not a ghost, who could it be?" Chad asked.
"Only one way to find out," Clara replied. She took a step forward and grabbed a fistful of the sheet, yanking it off the ghost... only for the two to gasp at the reveal. "Famous Youtuber, Jackscepticeye?!?"
"AYE TOP'A THA MORNIN' TO YE, LADIES," Jack spouted. "I wanted to do a YouTube bit here! And I would've gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling young adults!!"
"Yeah, yeah, tell that to the cops, big guy," Clara scoffed as a pair of officers came in to arrest him.
"Well, I guess that's a total case solved," Chad shrugged while looking at Clara. "You were a really great help, brah. I don't think I would've ever figured it out without you!"
"Oh please, it wasn't that hard," she smiled. "But, I mean, I have seen you struggle with opening cans."
"Ch'yeah. You should totally partner up with me, brah! I could really use the help! We'll make an awesome monster mystery solving duo, I just know it!"
"You know what? I don't think I'd completely hate that! It's a deal!"

And with that handshake, the two became the unstoppable duo; they'd travel the world and solve cases while simultaneously stop monsters from hurting others.
