This is my original version from when the event was open/active, completely unedited. I plan on perhaps rewriting it as my writing has improved a good bit since then.

Chapter 3: Where the River Ends

After a while of sitting and gazing out at the gorgeous scenery of the mountain, now lush with life again. Ev stood back up and shook the gathered snow off their body, Time to go home, they wished to go home but nothing happened. What? Why am I not going back home? With a silent sigh, Ev decided to just walk home instead since it seems they can’t just go home they way they’ve been able to since they became a spirit. As they began their walk, they explored as well, interested in the how the mountain looked on the way down and also seeing it so full of life. They watched as birds flew through the sky and some small creatures such as squirrels and other animals. As they got closer to the foot of the mountain, they felt a strange feeling in the earth. A pulse in a way, deep in the ties that connect the world together, it wasn’t very strong but Ev could feel it. Before Ev could do anything about investigating it, they were teleported once again and felt what seemed to be snow pelting them. They barely noticed that the blinding white shifted into tan, Sand?

The sand swirled around them, and slowly dissipated as it swirled lazaly for a few moments longer. Ev noticed they were in the bottom of a canyon, it was painted by a setting sun that only know by the rays of light peeking through the small sliver of sky visible in canyon’s top. They can tell that the canyon snakes through the earth for quite some time, the setting sun makes the arches and canyon walls appear like their glowing. This is very pretty, I really need to explore more soon. Soon they feel a familiar tug, calling to them down toward a river closer to the very bottom of the canyon. The canyon seems to hold a breath, awaiting for Ev to travel to the call. As they travel the path, they listen to the calming gurgle of the river they walk along it and notice fish traveling with them for a short while before swimming away. After a while of walking along the river, they discover another shrine and upon looking into a small pile of crumbled rocks they discover the source of the call, another token in need of repair.

The token sings it’s call to Ev as they approach, thrilled that they answered its call. Hello there little thing, I’m sorry you’ve been forgotten… They nodded their head, Let’s get you fixed up then. Then you can bring the life back to this shrine. The token sings again as if it hears Ev’s thoughts, for all they know it could have.

Ev gathers their strength again, tired as they may be they must help this poor shrine. They begin to weave the threads of magic together to fix the token and shrine. As they weave the pieces of the token together, they feel the token weave as well as it gives Ev energy again to help their weary self gain energy since they’ve grown so tired from helping the other two shrines today. As Ev finishes, they can tell that they have left a part of themself at this shrine and also feel that this shrine has left a part of itself in them. They can feel the area sing with joy again, they river’s gurgles sing with joy and the withered plants at it’s edge spring back to life again. The air has cleared and the walls of the canyon seem to glimmer in the dying light of the sunset. Ev gazes at the canyon, noticing that there are small animals that had been watching them fix the shrine. Lizards and fish can be seen nearby before leaving once they are done watching Ev, they believe they may have even seen a hare as well. Ev can feel the presence of the gift that the shrine has given them, a magic of some sort within them. They decide that their going to wait until their back to their home to figure out what it is. They gaze at the stars that are appearing in the sky now that the sun has set, The stars look beautiful here. The city is too bright for the stars due to the lights, it’s so amazing out here. They sit and enjoy the view for who knows how long, Ev knows they should probably attempt to return home soon but they want to just enjoy this for now. They watch as a snake approaches them with curiosity, Ev tenses but realizes that it means no harm as it smells the air around them before slithering away again. They watch it go with curiosity as they tilt their head to the side in confusion, What a strange little creature….
