Scarch

Finally his mind sparked back into the real world. The first thing he saw when he woke up was a dark, stone ceiling. Bio tried lifting his head to look around but it weakly fell back against the pillow. He could barely feel or move anything and his mouth was dry and sandy. At least his ears weren’t ringing. He managed to slide his arms under him and angle his body upward so he could look around. He was in his house. How he ended up there was unsure to him until he turned his head towards a strange looking chubby, sunny faced kid with wild, messy hair.
   “You’re awake!” they beamed.
Bio cried out and nearly jumped off the bed. “Who the hell are you!?”
“My name is Scarch, or at least that’s what I call myself. You can call me whatever you want really. I wasn’t really given a name.”
Bio cranked upwards into a sitting position which made him a little sick to his stomach. “And what exactly do you mean by that?”
Scarch’s smile faltered but never left. “I don’t know. I just know I’m here. I woke up in the desert and wandered here. I don’t know how long or when exactly. All I know is I ran into you with your face in the sand and I dragged you all the way here to this nice, cool place.”
“This ‘place’ just so happens to be my home.”
The kid’s face scrunched a bit. “Wow, really? You certainly know how to pick them, huh?”
Bio’s eyes went a bit fierce. “This isn’t just my home. It’s the home of my kind.”
Scarch finally frowned. “I didn’t see anyone like you but you.”
    “That’s because they’re all dead.”
Their smile returned. “Oh, okay. I should probably cover up that wound again or you’ll be just like them.”
Bio gave them an aggravated scowl but he eventually nodded. Scarch placed their hand on Bio's bloody, torn shirt distorting itself to seal the wound. Bio observed the hand mold over his chest and he squinted at Sc
arch.
     "What the hell are you?"
Scarch’s smile widened. "I have not the slightest clue. I can do a bunch of cool stuff though."
