There are three candidates for the archmage, and Gahariet does not like any of them particularly much.

All except the rather centrist Sabora would see him suffer in some manner, however. For the most part, Gar had had quite enough of hunting monsters. His burn scars itch at the thought, and fear grips his gut.

He does not want to be sent to war again. Even if the enemies are, perhaps, not as fearsome as the tar entity was.

He has nightmares of the day and night below ground, in the catacombs - he wakes up screaming, with his face in the crook of Mordreaux's neck, and then sobs for long spells after that when he tries to sleep.

The pressure of the Third Order is enough. He can not go to war again.

He spots posters around Ivras, those of Guro nearest the Order, and he feels ill. He shuffles past them quickly, trying not to make eye contact.

He returns in the night, the fox made of flames padding in front of him to light the way - dimmer then it naturally was, seemingly aware of the quiet needed. It is Guro's posters he sees to first, fear of war tingling down his spines.

Some of the posters he tears off the walls. Some he manages to direct his magic, his inferno's knife to burn Xs across them, or even messy words. Those too long to burn, he writes with quill and ink.

'Drafter.' 'Warmonger.' 'She would see us all fall like tin soldiers.'

Gahariet slinks home slow and quiet and does not explain where he was. Mordreaux does not ask but holds him tightly - knowing something all the same. He rests slightly easier with this done, though it does not quell the nightmares.
