Tek's need to keep his trainer happy paired with his lack of understanding of how to be a dog quite often led to awkward moments between the two of them. His trainer would ask him to do one thing, and Tek - misunderstanding what was meant - would go off and do something completely different. Every dog on the Slate Mine estate had their own story of what they had witnessed Tek get up to when working with his trainer.

Many of these stories came from Tek failing to understand basic dog commands. Wanting to please his trainer, Tek would cimply do whatever first came to mind that was related to what he had been told. One famous example involved the trainer asking Tek to lay down for one reason or another. Tek, eager to please but panicked at the sudden command, had thrown himself to the ground in such a dramatic fashion that an observer may assume he had been shot. This had elicited stunned laughter from the trainer, as well as many raised eyebrows from the rest of the pack.

These moments happened often, and each time they left Tek feeling awkward and embarrassed. He just wanted to do what his trainer had asked! Luckily, most of the other Slate Mine dogs had been house dogs for most of their lives. Once they stopped laughing they were usually more than happy to show Tek exactly what the trainer had meant.

It was all a big learning experience for Tek. He wasn't enjoying it at all.
