Chapter 1

‘You should kill him.’

Blanc stared blankly at Akashi as he cooked for her. Kie was standing by his side. Their conversation went in one ear and out the other. Mumbly words that she could barely process. She wasn’t even hungry. She just didn’t want to say no. All she could hear were her own nagging thoughts. Curious about how her brother’s partner tasted. Was he sweet like the others? Dirty like slayers? Blue eyes slowly closed before opening again. She would never hurt her brother’s happiness. She felt nails digging into the fur on her arms. She slowly pulled her hand away watching as blood dripped down her white fur. She looked up to see they were busy flirting with each other. She left without a word walking off to the bathroom to clean herself up. Watching as her blood ran down the sink gave her some semblance of happiness. The pain meant she was still alive. Blue eyes looked up to the mirror in front of her, blinking several times to get their faint glow to go away. She wanted to see him again. Not that Chikage wanted to see her anymore. The irony that he was happy to be with some slayer girl. Wasn’t she the same as her? She supposed she was worse. Few ashuri would break such sacred laws. Destroying bodies…it was taboo to even harm them after taking their syoran. Her faint smile dissipated as she straightened out. It wouldn’t hurt to swing by again. Even if his twin would probably tell her he didn’t want to see her. It was worth a shot. Maybe even Akira would want to go.

“Blanc?”

Akira was standing in the doorway. His eyes were on her arm. She held up a hand, shaking her head, “It’s fine I did it.” She said softly before pulling down the first aid kit and carefully starting to bandage it up. Akira had one earbud in half listening to his music half listening to her. The hyena kemori stepped forward helping her clean it up and wrapping her arm for her. “Don’t tell Akashi ok,” Blanc whispered watching as the other gave her a small nod. He ruffled her hair before walking off to the kitchen.

‘You’re nothing more than a child in his eyes.’

Blanc hummed to herself before leaving the bathroom and following after him. She picked at her breakfast before making an excuse to leave. Down on the city streets, the voices dulled as cars sped by. She was never fully alone. But at least for a moment, she could have some peace. She decided against asking Akira to tag along. Even if he wasn’t a full slayer she figured she was more likely to be declined if he was with her. The bunny kemori made her way to the subway, steering clear of any other Ashuri that came her way. Her outer appearance didn’t scream slayer. It screamed peaceful. And that’s what she wanted them to believe. She held tightly onto one of the poles on the subway, listening as a group of canine ashuri laughed and talked about their plans for the day. By their smell, she could tell they were mostly all fighters. But one stood out. One was a slayer in disguise. She couldn’t help but wonder how long he would last before turning on them. She turned away from them noticing a small dog in a girl’s lap. Humans were strange with their pets. She held eye contact with the dog for a moment before feeling a paw on her neck.

‘Bite him. Bite him.’

Another kemori in her presence. She didn’t smell him earlier. But as she glanced back she saw the slayer from the other group had approached her. He had dark fur and judging from his looks he was nothing more than a wolf. Picking on her because of her species? It wouldn’t be a first. There was a human in their presence. So there was nothing this wolf could do to her.

“Are you travelling alone?”

He had a gentle voice. Charming. It reminded her of Akashi’s. This was one of the same tricks that he would use on unsuspecting girls from time to time.

“Ooo! Look who’s finally getting some action!” His group teased him as he tried to talk to her. Blanc’s ears tilted back and she moved slightly to create distance. She would get off next stop. Lest she would have to fight the kemori in front of her. He didn’t seem to take the hint, grabbing her wrist to keep her from getting far. Blue eyes stared at her kidnapped hand watching as they reached the next stop and the human left. Her safety was gone now. She found herself being pulled over to the group, hearing a soft growl that said to play along or else. The fighters welcomed her to their group. Complimented her as if they hadn’t seen a girl before. She wouldn’t be surprised. Someone asked where she was going she looked up thinking quickly of a good answer. Something that would keep her safe.

“I’m going to go see my boyfriend.” Blanc lied smoothly eyes not leaving the floor in front of her. The chorus of boys believing they could be better for her was amusing. But as the next stop came up she excused herself, “Hm…Sorry but…I’m just not into wimps.” Blanc smiled sweetly before leaving the train. She made it up to the surface without a scratch but couldn’t help but glance back to ensure she wasn’t being followed. She checked her phone ensuring her location was on before continuing on.

Creeps. Should have gotten rid of them…saved someone else the trouble…’

She sighed at her internal voice keeping a hand on her phone as she walked towards Chikage’s house. Only a few blocks away she picked up on the sound of footsteps behind her. Rabbit ears perked and tilted at the sound of someone following her. The wind was blowing towards her a thick scent following on it. Her eyes closed for a moment making up a new plan. She couldn’t lead a slayer to Chikage’s place. As much as she hated him right now. She knew how much that could harm him. She took a different turn heading towards the nearby park. Darkening skies and distant rumbles warned her of an oncoming storm.

She paused as she neared the empty playground. “What do you want.” Blanc asked turning around to face her stalker, “I’m not interested.”

The other kemori simply smiled, hand tracing the outline of his dagger-like kabuki, “I thought you were off to see your boyfriend little bunny? Just making sure you get there safe~”

“…He’ll be here any second now. I suggest you leave.” Blanc held her breath. She couldn’t show fear to another kemori. “I’m perfectly fine on my own. I don’t need a guardian.” Blanc’s heartbeat stopped as the kemori approached her. She would be lying if his height over her didn’t make him intimidating, “Get lost perv.” She growled as he reached out to grab her. Her kabuki materialized as he swung at her, blocking a strike before creating distance between them. Like hell, she would die to some nobody. Before he could strike again a familiar scent drifted on the wind. Her ears perked as rapid steps closed in. Blanc barely processed the fight that occurred in front of her. The flashes of black and red before the rain started to pour. Her kabuki dissipated as things went quiet. Standing over the lifeless wolf was someone she knew. Or thought she knew. His dual-toned eyes met her blue ones, the glow in them slowly fading as he wiped blood off his face.

“Blanc- What are you doing here”

Avoiding that he just killed someone huh? Did he even realise that he did? Blanc took a step forward only for him to step back. She hesitated then smiled. The rain dulled out the voices for a moment as she picked through her own thoughts on what to say to him. She didn’t expect to run into him here of all places. But she was thankful that she did. In her state, she doubted she would be able to kill someone.

“I wanted to see you…and apologize….” Blanc sighed looking up to the clouds above her, “I missed you…Chikage”
