Some time in the 2000s, a small tornado swept through a once peaceful farming town. This was around three generations before the roleplay's start, and was dubbed by the cats the "Deathspiral", for all the havoc and death it caused. Four kittypets who had lived in the town, Haze, Leaf, Dust and Hail, all escaped the worst of the storm by escaping from the tornado's route and heading towards a field, where they met a loner by the name Feather.

They had planned to head to the city, however they got caught in the last of the storm once again, where Dust was pierced by rubble and the other four suffered from other, similarly severe, injuries. Dust passed away that night, while both Feather and Leaf were blinded, and Hail grew sick; only Haze remained in healthy condition.

Despite the setbacks, the remaining four made their way to the city - ablight slowly - and ended up sleeping in a dark alley their first night there. When they drifted off, though, they found themselves in a dream, and met a cat; she had wings as light and fluffy as the clouds, and plants that wrapped around her body until it looked like she could be one. And, she said to them, "My name is Garden. What you desire can be found through me." Haze was wary and tired, but her friends were sick and starving, and she agreed - though with slight reluctance - to follow Garden through the dreamscape. Nobody knows what they saw.

Eventually, they ended up at the Cottage; a small twoleg home that had been taken over by nature, and a place of peace. For the first generation, cats were sent to the Dark Alley to pass a trial and recieve their suffix; but, then a cat vanished. And then another. And another. The trial was abolished, for fears of the danger in the Dark Alley. Which, two generations on, takes us to present day.
