✦ HIERARCHY OF MORTALS ✦ All mortals are below gods in supernatural power. All mortals are (obviously) mortal, but can become immortal given access to a willing god able to give them that power. Mortals can also have supernatural power, but this is extremely limited.

The Divinity: This is an additional subcategory of mortals possessing supernatural abilities, restricted by species. It is extremely hard for a human to come into possession of the Divine title, but not impossible. Those who possess supernatural abilities can be called "Divine" or "Divine Chimeras/Merfolk/etc" based on their species. The supernatural abilities exhibited in the Divinity are extremely limited, and often cannot affect others (so shifting is an example of this mortal power, but mind control is not.)

Everything underneath The Divine are within the same level in the hierarchy, but some individuals tend to divide them up further. This is more of a list than it is a hierarchy, though some people don't see it that way.

Humans: Humans are the same in this world as they are in our own. They tend to have the hardest time finding the ability to procure supernatural powers, and very few humans have been born Divine. They tend to make up the most of the population, around 50-55%.

Merfolk: Merfolk are half-fish and half-human creatures, often living in bodies of water (mostly the ocean or large, deep lakes.) Merfolk have the highest propensity of all mortal creatures for being Divine, often coming in the form of shapeshifting to be able to walk and breathe on land.

Fae: This all-encompassing term tends to include all species that don't fall within another category. This can include fairies/faeries or other, odd species, such as mythical creatures. Fae tend to vary in magical ability and Divinity, and are the most unresearched species category due to their tendency to live alone and in isolation away from other species. Those that interact with Fae society are often moved to secrecy for the sake of Fae friends.

Satyr/Faun: Half-goat or half-deer humans often, but not always, possess bipedal goat/deer legs, ears, horns, and occasionally other characteristics such as noses or hooved fingers. Satyr and faun are at a high propensity for magical abilities, though not as high as merfolk, and tend to consider themselves uninvolved in the politics of other species. These individuals are the most closed-off to other species, with exceptions, and are the hardest to find. Many satyr/faun pursue occupations in entertainment or intelligence, such as being artists, dancers, or scholars.

Chimeras: Chimeras are half-human, half-animal beings often possessing traits of a specific animal while being mostly human. They can also share the diet of their animal, but it's not necessarily required for them to do so based on their anatomy. Chimeras are only slightly more likely to be born or become Divine compared to humans, though the population of Divine Chimeras is still quite low. Chimeras tend to be the lowest of mortals in many peoples' perceptions, and have the most bottom-of-the-barrel jobs such as street cleaners, trash collectors, or servants. Chimeras tend to stick in groups of individuals like them or with their same species heritage, but not always.
