Growth Chart

Bons are curious little creatures. The very first terrabon was a happy little accident, but now they're birthed a bit differently!
Firstly, an offering has to be made to the Great Tree, consisting of the plants from two parents. Depending on the luck of the parents,
the tree will return an egg for the parents to plant into the ground and nurture- a sign that a bon is ready is when the shell starts to crack.

At the first stage of their life, they're just small turtle creatures that can't speak and are dependent on their parents!
Later on, they slowly grow upright with humanoid features, but still have flippers.
They're still learning how to speak at this point.
Eventually they are able to stand upright and run around like little gremlins, and as they grow even older
they will retain an almost complete humanoid form.

Shell Characteristics

Despite making a turtle-themed species, turtle shells are connected to the body of the turtle...
So let's not think about how terrabons put clothes on. Instead, you can think of their
shell as something like a hermit crab shell- they can't live without it, but it can pop on and off!

It's sort of magically attached- think about a magnet. If you tear the plants out of the shell,
bons will feel extreme pain, but small damage to the plants themselves and they hardly feel a thing!
Due to this, it's become a culture that terrabons will only offer their plants to loved ones-
but all sorts of eccentric people exist.

Scales

Terrabons are blessed with the bloodline of the Xuanwu turtle, so they're part snake too!
Everyone interprets the scales artistically in different ways, and that's totally okay. The scales
are present all over the body, but prominently on the cheeks, shoulders, body and legs.
