Cassiopeia

High above the surface world, above the lowest tier of clouds, lies a floating island ringed by clouds. From the Surface World, this island simply looks like a large cloud passing by. But this island happens to be home to a powerful Pegasus race unseen by it's Surface brethren.

This magical island is called Cassiopeia by it's inhabitants, built for them by the Ancients they revere so highly. Stories as to how it was built have long been lost, but it's said the Royal Family guards the secrets and protects their lands from outsiders. After all, why would outsiders be expressly forbidden?

Cassiopeia is a large airborne island with fertile soil and thick clouds carrying unending stores of water. Plants and crops that grow there are magically infused to survive the higher altitudes, which makes them extremely precious to the Seraphs. The air is also rich with the magics that give Seraphs their inborn ability to survive the climate as well as their strength to fly in the thinner air. All Seraphs are born with Conduits, which they use to manipulate the magic around them. Every Seraph has one or two elements they are naturally in tune with. This allows them to cast some spells instinctively as opposed to a non-attuned Seraph having to think through the steps of the same spells, leading them to be naturally slower at casting.

Due to the rich magical air, however, if a Seraph's ability to take in this magic is damaged or removed, this air becomes a toxin that begins to damage a Seraph's internal magic. Once that magic depletes, staying on Cassiopeia can and will kill them slowly. Any Seraphs unable to filter that magic don't live past the age of 30. Nobody knows the effects of the Surface Lands air on these non-magical Seraphs, as most believe the Surface Lands to be full of death and ruin.

Seraphs are a race free of any sort of currency. They live off trade and work together to make sure everyone has the resources they need to survive. While there are some parts of town that get less than others due to lack of anything to trade, Seraphs do their best to make things  accessible to everyone. However, the Main Houses might be cooking up a plan to change things for their own gain...

Seraphs typically live far into their third century, as per the rich magic they breathe in every day that keeps their internals working much longer than normal. The Royal family seems to live longer, but their limit has not been found yet. It's speculated that this is due to the rich Ancient blood rushing through their veins, but Serenity herself has been around for many centuries already. Royals do have the capacity to tether their mates to their own lifespan, a well-guarded secret that Serenity has not yet taught her children. Why they can do this is unknown. Though it might have something to do with the Lost King...
