Roleplay Rules & Guidelines

First of all, What's a Roleplay?

A roleplay is a story in which 2 (or more) roleplayers take turns in playing, writing, or acting as their chosen characters. Usually, the first player starts writing through their character's perspective, then another one replies in their's, and so forth until the story ends.

If you'd like a more in-depth explanation, the user Myota does it pretty well here (under "What Is Roleplay?").

Some Terms

RP = Roleplay (the story itself);

RPer = Roleplayer (the player contributing to the story);

RP Partner = The person you are RPing (roleplaying) with;

Player Character = The character you are RPing as;

NPC = Non Player/Playable Character - that anyone can include in an RP, but not write in their perspective like the player characters;

OOC = Out Of Character (outside of the RP);

IC = In Character (inside of the RP);

Godmodding = When a character does something to another character without their player's permission and/or makes overpowered actions that succeed 100% of the time, even if it doesn't make any sense;

Metagaming = When a character does or reacts to some (often hidden) information because their player knows, but said character isn't supposed to know;

Railroading = Forcing something to happen in a RP so the story doesn't stray from the original plan when it seems to go in another direction;

Rules

  • A maximum of 4 RPers can participate per RP;
  • All RPs must be posted in the Roleplay forum;
  • All RPers must post as their character(s) (by clicking the OOC/IC button and selecting them) in their RPs;
  • All OOC discussions should be private (like in DMs);
  • There are no word minimums or limits, but we prefer you keep it semi-lit (with proper grammar and at least a paragraph of information to give the other RPer something to respond to);
  • We allow swearing, but do not let it go overboard. This means you don't have to censor swears, but if you prefer, you can, or you replace them with other words;
  • No NSFW, heavy gore, or erotic scenes allowed - while romance (like hugging and kissing) is. We still have minors here, y'know;
  • If sensitive content is featured in RPs, there should be a disclaimer [SC] in the title;
  • Again, no bigotry or hateful energy or content of any kind allowed;
  • Godmodding and metagaming are not allowed, and neither is railroading;
  • RPs can either be closed (no one except the determined RPers can participate) or open (anyone can join), and if and RP is closed, a [C] must be marked in the title. If an RP is open, however, a [O] must be marked in the title and the RPer posting its first post must indicate how many people can join in the title (ex. [O: 2 max]) if there's enough space for it. Once the number of positions the open RP has filled, the mark must be replaced accordingly;
  • If creating an open RP, the OP (original poster) must state in their post whether or not future participants have to DM them before joining or simply reply with their response in the post first. Their preference should be stated in the title or at the beginning or end of the first post;
  • RPers can use their character(s) and the environment however they'd like, as long as it's realistic within the Camp Cicashel setting (ex. making it rain can be realistic, but trees moving on their own may not be), but you cannot force other player characters to say or do things without their RPer's consent;
  • An RP can include other campers and staff members as NPCs with their RPers' consent;
  • Remember that characters may not necessarily align with their RPers in terms of beliefs and behavior.
With that said, be creative and have fun! We're offering a great opportunity for your characters to grow and bloom, so let your imagination run wild!
