🦇 Nightling Creation

Jump to: Hatchling, Young, Youth, Adult

🌿 Rules 🌿

🌱 Regular MYO rules apply with the exception of the following:
🌱 This type of keke must be obtained through an adventure, event, etc... They are not open to make unless you've earned one!

🌿 Egg 🌿
An egg made up of what looks to be pale purple bat wings folded in on themselves

🍃 Nightlings eggs are called "membrane eggs" due to their bat-wing-like appearance
🍃 This may come as a surprise to some parents, but hatchlings within membrane eggs are capable of controlling the 'wings' on the outside! Not all of the structure is mobile, though - only around the fingertips and roughly five inches up. Often, babies will just wiggle these while they roll around inside their egg, but they can be coaxed into hanging on tight to certain surfaces, such as their kin
🍃 Obviously, it would be very dangerous for an unhatched baby to suddenly let go if they were hanging onto something important...! Thankfully, they have a natural reflex to keep them safe: simply give the 'wings' a few fast pats to lock on, a few fast pats to detach. This allows bigger Nightlings to safely harbor their young on their backs while crawling around on ceilings
🍃 These eggs require soaking in water to hatch. Often, babies will be able to tell they're in a liquid and flutter their wingtips excitedly
🍃 Eggs are not required for approvals! This is just info

🌿 Hatchling 🌿

A dark purple Nightling hatchling, standing on their paws and smiling

🍃 Nightlings, being akin to bats, are creatures of darkness. They're well known for taking up residence in the valley's Underground where most of their population is likely to be found. Once night falls, they're free to explore where they please without risk of straining their light-sensitive eyes
🍃 Nights quite enjoy being upside down. In fact, they're commonly seen crawling around or hanging from the ceiling of the Underground. For most, it's the more comfortable way to sleep, eat, and so on
🍃 Despite their dangerous looking fangs, Nights almost entirely eat juicy fruits, vegetables, berries, and nectar. Their pointy teeth help them puncture the skin of their food where they can then lap up the liquid. The majority of their diet is liquid and eating too much solid food can quite upset their stomachs
🍃 As their wings are quite small, baby Nightlings cannot fly. Instead, they'll cling tightly to their parents, who carry them thought the air
🍃 Nightlings have two, big upper fangs, diamond-shaped cheek pouches, and long, bat-like ears. They have a little bit of a head tuft and a tiny mane at the base of their neck which will grow with age. Their belly scales are pointed at the start and go down in 'V' shapes.  There are small bat-like wings attached to their arms and their fingers have very long finger pads. Finally, their baby fin is a diamond shape

🌿 Hatchling Creation 🌿

The image guide for making Night hatchlings

🍂 1: Lines > Draw the base for your new Snakekey. Be sure to look at the anatomy examples above!
🍂 2: Base > Pick a base color. This must be a solid color and should be sort of dark. Try not to go above middle darkness on your color slider if you can! Hatchlings don't have markings yet
🍂 3: Accent > Any solid color. This goes on the cheek pouches, inside the mouth, and blood. May optionally color a hatchling's baby fin
🍂 4: Membrane (Opt) > If you'd like, you can pick another solid color for the wing membranes and/or the inner ears. This can also go on the baby fin if desired
🍂 5: Belly scales > Goes on the belly scales and mouth/tongue. Hatchlings may also have it on their baby fin. This can be any pure grey, white, or black (besides pitch black). "Pure" means it's not tinted any other color and is totally desaturated! Keke with white scales are warm-blooded and black scales are cold-blooded. Middle of the road greys can be either blood type - you can pick. In addition, a hatchling's face, tail tip, and/or limbs can be tinged the belly color. This can carry as far as halfway up each area and is an optional feature.
🍂 6: Eyes > Eyes can be any color, but only one. By default, Snakekeys do not have visible pupils.
🍂 7: Description > You're ready to post your Snakekey! Please be sure to locate the form below, fill it out, and put it in the description

🌿 Rules 🌿

🌱 Regular aging rules apply

🌿 Young 🌿

A Nightling young jumping onto their paws and smiling

🍃 Once they leave the hatchling phase, a Night's wings will grow large enough for them to fly! Each wing has two thin fingers for a better range of movement
🍃 Like most other keke, Nightlings shed their baby fin and fade out of their tingeing as youngs. Meanwhile, their mane puffs up a little and their teeth grow in size - perfect for getting at fruit juice!
🍃 While their base colors are dark, a Night can develop striking colors when their markings come in. While this is flashy and considered pretty neat, it also reduces natural camouflage, so watch out!

🌿 Young Creation 🌿
The image guide for designing Night young

🍂1: Lines > Start by drawing the base image for your keke. Be sure to follow the anatomy examples shown here
🍂 2: Base > Snakekeys get their bases as hatchlings - this step is done and you can move on!
🍂 3: Color method > Choose a coloring method. Keep in mind that "variations of your base color" must appear to be in the same hue as the base. This means you can move the color slider say, from light orange to dark orange, but do not touch the slider you would use to change orange to blue much!
🌼Method A: 0-3 variations of the base color
🌻Method B: 1 variation of the base color, 2 of any color you like! Note that this method requires the use of 3 colors total
🍂 4: Design > Design your Snakekey with the colors you've chosen! Markings generally need to cover a lot of area. This can mean they are large in size or are very long. Smaller markings are okay as long as they're connected to a bigger marking of the same color. Spots generally should be no smaller than the entire hand and thin markings no shorter than arm's length. Do not use gradients on designs. Be sure you've removed belly color tingeing if your Snakekey had any - they've grown out of it!
🍂 5: Description > You're ready to post your Snakekey! Please be sure to locate the form below, fill it out, and put it in the description

🌿 Youth 🌿

A youth Night standing on their paws and looking left. They have drowsiness, puffball spikes, and an ILU nose

🍃 By the time they're youths, Nights are more than likely at least semi-skilled fliers. Unless they've spent all their time on the ground, but who would do that, right? Lol
🍃 A "cool teenager thing to do" among Nightlings is calling themselves 'Knights' instead of 'Nights'. There's no audible difference, so one must make sure they say it nobly! With valor! This often becomes one of those things that they cringe at themselves for when they get older

🌿 Youth Creation 🌿

🍂 1: Lines > Start by drawing the base image for your keke. Be sure to follow the anatomy examples show here
🍂 2: Design > We've already done this and you're ready to go!
🍂 3: Upgrades > Keke youth are required to have at least one of the upgrades listed below. They can either keep or remove them once they reach adulthood. Once the approval's over, they have full access to these any time they wish (excepting on younger stages, of course). Note that a youth will always have to have a minimum of one of these and it can't just be removed after the approval process

Two keke with scruffy hair. The left one has short facial hair while the right one does notPunkin with darkened bags under their eyesA dull teal Nightling holding out one arm, looking surprised at the bones showing from beneath their skin

💫1: > Bedhead - Youth
An enhanced version of head fluff that looks worse and is generally terrible. Grows on the top of the head and doesn't heed your mortal laws. Sticks up wherever it pleases and can't be tamed no matter how hard you try. Sometimes, this can form in small amounts on the chin or right above the mouth. Unlike regular head fluff, bedhead can go to the base of the neck at its maximum (excepting the bits on the muzzle, those stay short)
💫 2: > Drowsiness - Youth
Bags under your eyes because no, mom, you weren't up late last night
💫 3: > Gaunt - Nightling only - Youth
A keke becomes skin and bones! Slim down the figure to a bones-jutting-out, kinda spooky level. Despite it's appearance, the owner may not necessarily be in poor health

A tall grey keke looks down at a lighter keke of average heightA dull purple Nightling with a blue, heart-shaped nose. They look delighted!A blue keke with some missing attached teeth

💫 1: > Growth spurt - Youth
Typically a sign of an oncoming reach morph. Allows a keke to be taller than average for their age. Nothing crazy, though!
💫 2: > ILU nose - Nightling only - Youth
A heart-shaped nose pad, complete with two slit or round nostrils. May be any color
💫 3: > Missing teeth - Youth
The teeth attached to your face are falling out again.... Hopefully they all grow back

A black and green keke with bright green puffball spikes going down their backA brown Nightling. Their orange eyes glow from within thanks to tapetum lucidumA short green keke looks up nervously at a pink one of average height

💫 1: > Puffball spikes - Youth
The mane returns to a hatchling-like length - it's way too big for your body! In addition, is seems like it tried to carry down your back, but there are large gaps in between the fluff. Odd tufts of evenly placed fur that go in a line anywhere from the head to the tail tip
💫 2: > Reflective Eyes - Nightling only - Youth
The eyes reflect extra light, making them appear to shine from within like cats' eyes do. The shine may be any color, but note that it won't actually glow or 'leave' the eyes - it's an effect of the pupils themselves!
💫 3: > Short stature - Youth
Your keke doesn't seem to have grown much...a common sign of an oncoming goblin morph. Allows them to be shorter than average for their age. Nothing crazy, though! This "upgrade" has a tendency to make them look a stage or two too young via underdeveloped face, body, etc

A grey-brown Nightling surprises a teal keke by spinning their head around like an owl

💫 1: > Swivel neck - Nightling only - Youth
Gain the ability to rotate the neck beyond the usual capacity - up to 270 degrees like an owl! This hypermobility will enhance vision and totally creep out your friends

🌿 Adult 🌿

An adult Nightling with their arm wings extended

🍃 Adult Nights can vary widely in size. Stalkers and larger morphs commonly end up becoming "hatchling buses", as they have plenty of room to carry kiddos around on their backs
🍃 Nightlings don't have hollow bones or anything - they're just as heavy as a regular Snakekey. Because of this, this wings are technically...way too small to carry them. Yet, fly they do! This is due to a thin layering of magic beneath their wing membranes whose sole job is to give them lift. So basically, they're cheating
