The nation of Elysium, and its citizens, call the Elysian Isles their home, a circumstance to which they and their bank accounts owe gratitude. The Isles are the only place in the world that produce Interitum, a precious mineral that has the ability to negate magic in an object, place, or person. Exporting the Interitum has allowed Elysium to take their place as one of the wealthiest and most advanced nations on Aeon. However, those who immigrate to her shores with hopes of striking it rich in a rumored utopia find that paradise is not all that it seems.

- Witches are considered to be nothing more than tools for non-magic users and must prove their worth to earn respect and the right to co-exist.
- While most conform to the system they were born and raised in, there are some who have seen horrors beyond imaging and have fled from the city or seek to liberate others from it.
- Punishment is swift and severe to anyone who steps out of line.
- While most show an inclination towards one type of magic over another, there are those who find themselves overwhelmed by unruly powers and either learn to harness them, or burn.
- Government: corrupt as shit. Will go above and beyond to get what they want. Pay the right person enough and you can wipe out your competition (or like, your grandma, they don’t really care).

CULTURE

LAW
MAGES
- Magic users are born, not made - or so they claim.
- Are required to report any breach of the law to their betters (including but not limited to, turning in known fugitives -aka other mages-, unstable entities, unlawful/unsanctioned use of magic,etc).
- Are required to be registered and known by the state.
- Are required to attend a government run school, with the intent that you will be expected to serve and protect your country without question. In doing so, you will earn your right to live comfortably amongst non-magic users and create a better life for your family and/or those you care about.
- Failing to abide by the law may result in death and/or the purging of your family line.
- Hippocampi are always considered to be magical due to their shape shifting abilities… even if they lack the talent for much else.
INFRASTRUCTURE

TRADE
The city is predominately surrounded by water, so trade by boat is common (whether or not it is carrying legal tender is at your discretion). Cargo ships are considered incredibly valuable means of transport and are often heavily guarded.

- Mages are considered to be nothing more than tools for non-magic users and must prove their worth to earn respect and the right to co-exist.
CORRUPTION
- Magic extends the lives of some, and extinguishes the life force of others.
- Some choose to be consumed by it, to lose themselves completely in exchange for power and live with what they believe to be no consequences.
- A magic user can be made and destroyed with the use of a single gem. These gems are created solely within Elysium. They were originally created to enhance the royal family line and promote their power over the realm. Most of the royal line lack magical abilities but this has been kept in strict confidence and the knowledge is known only to a select, chosen few.
