Towns & Region

yo7mkMm.png

Map of the region, last updated 2/1/2022. To full view just drag into your browser. See maps of the different regional areas here (note: this map is outdated, but the regions are not). This map was created with Azgaar's Fantasy Map creator, and I hold rights to the above map.

This world is based on an original region named Calora. Other regions within the main series Pokemon games and some of the spinoffs are part of this world and may be referenced. (Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, Alola, Galar, Orre, and Lental are the other regions in this world.)

The planet (Pokemon World) the world resides on will be referred to as Earth for simplicity.

Calora has a wide diversity of landscapes and biomes, countless dungeons to explore. It is divided by regions, which use natural biomes as borders. (all of the major desert biomes reside within what is Sienna Desert region, for example.)

While most of the world has a rustic feel (like the games) there is a modern city that is a big central place, and some newer technology. Different from the games is a major railroad system (the Carkoal Railway, or simply just the Rail) that connects the many of the towns together. There is also a taxi/flight system run by Corviknight.

There is a postal service with headquarters based in the Cumulus Islands due to it's accessibility to the rest of the world.  Ran by mainly by Pelliper, Talonflame, Skarmory. Not every town may have a Post Office, but can still send/receive mail.

Below talks about the most interesting towns on the map - note that not every town on the map will be listed below.

Normal.pngTowns & Cities

These are the main towns part of the story + character backgrounds. There are many more towns outside of this, but will mostly list the ones that are most interesting/developed. There will also be a list of "places of interest" for easy story/roleplay purposes, as well as nearby towns just to help the area feel more developed. If a town is listed as a nearby town but not on this list, it will be in the "minor" towns list below.

Coastal Chapparal

Coasta City | Theme Song

Largest city in the Calora Region. Inspired by Castelia City. Located in the Salty Bay, and not too far from Seaglass Village and Riverton. Inspired by Castellia City, is also a large city of skyscapers, parks, and modern design, and on the coast. Costa City started development around 300 years ago, which is called the start of the Halcyon Period, the current time period.

Divided by districts/streets:

Wingull Harbor: Has a small boardwalk amusement park, a large harbor that brings in ships from around the world, and a small rocky beach. Moving inland from the beach, the roads go uphill and give the neighbors a layered look. The houses here are colorful and bright. One of the most popular spots for tourists.

Verdant Plaza:  A circular district he middle of the city, a peaceful place that connects major streets and the other districts together, and has a beautiful park, with a statue of the legendary pokemon Reshiram and Zekrom together. There are also townhouses/other homes surrounding the open space, it is not just a plaza or park space. It is also the most green part of the city.

Downtown: The skyscraper-dense part of the city. Has its fair share of interesting shops, cafes, and a big library, but mostly an economic center of the city, with lots of offices as well. This is the most busy part of the city, with many people passing through for work and It is expensive to live in this area.  The Coasta City Guild (of rescuers and explorers) is based here and is the most famous guild in the world as well as Guild Association's office.

Industrial Area: This is where many warehouses and factories are, and is less densely populated, with a lot more empty space, a huge canal, and quiet streets, as well as an entrance to a sewer similar to Castelia Sewers. (Poison pokemon are pretty happy there.) It may not be as pretty as the other areas as it lacks greenery, but many people enjoy it for how quiet it is, a way to get away from the more dense parts of the city, and does have some interesting architecture. The main street here has a Game Corner (Casino).

Arts District: Less skyscaper heavy though still close to Downtown, lots of colorful art, graffiti, murals and plants (second greenest district!), and a safe part of the city to roam, and quirky cafes and shops, and a huge market that brings in pokemon from all over to sell.

Stone Hill: The main residential area of the city. (People reside in all sections, but this one is primarily housing). As name suggests, its a hilly area, but not necessarily made of stone! The name comes from the original and oldest houses. Many are now brick, wood, stucco.

Normal.pngThe Regions

While above you get an idea of the main towns of the world, below will explain the general region a bit more. The regions are named after the local landscapes/biome.

You can see a map of the regions here.

Coastal Chapparal the highest populated region, takes up most of the coastline and lush grasslands, and a fair share of mixed forests, or just coniferous or deciduous forests, and redwood forests along the northwestern coasts. There are shrines dedicated to Xerneas, Shaymin, Latias & Latios.

Western Pinelands highest density of coniferous forests, with some lush meadows inbetween, and a huge mountain range which Mt. Cypress is part of. Borders Lake Gyarados, the most loved (by tourists) lake in the continent. Shrines/Temples dedicated to Cobalion, Celebi, Reshiram.

Telluric Taiga athough a good portion of this region is also tundra and glacial. Takes up the eastern shores of Lake Gyarados. This region is snowy most of the year, and has one of the tallest mountains in the region, Mt. Faraway. Shrines/Temples dedicated to Articuno, Regice, and Kyurem are here.

Glittering Glaciers is barely a region, mostly ice types live and thrive here. There are tiny scattered villages, but not much else.

Northwestern Range the coastline here is lush (and has the famous university town of Verdant Hill) and has decent tree coverage, but the rest is steppe, and the borders to Telluric Taiga are very snowy. There are shrines/temples dedicated to Rayquaza and Regigigas, and Dialga and Palkia.

Lilypad Marshlands depending on where you are in his wet region, it can be beautiful and floral, or dark and swampy. The eastern side around Fenmire is more swampy (especially the infamous Carnivine Swamp) but eastern is more lush and beautiful, with ponds and lakes of lilypads, and the beautiful Lilylake City. South is not as wet, and more lush. Around Lake Suicune you will find some green fens. There are shrines/temples dedicated to Virizion, Suicune, Azelf/Uxie/Mesprit.

Thunder Meadows a bit dangerous, but mostly an exciting region where Electric pokemon thrive. Mostly dry grasslands and savannas with some semi arid deserts in the south. This area is common with dry thunderstorms, the northern part, where it borders the Marshlands, are most rainy. The storms are believed to be caused by a Xurkitree who came to Earth from space millions of years ago and is buried under the plains. Mt. Blackwind is where Zapdos lives, though there is also a shrine dedicated to Zekrom within it, and you may find Raikou patrolling the plains, one of the most sociable of the Legendary Dogs.

Harvest Woodlands this mostly deciduous tree area, and some wetlands, has a spooky vibe to it.While the southern part is more normal, the farther you get, the more omnious it becomes. But many pokemon enjoy it, especially grass, dark, and ghost types. Around Fallenleaf Village you find permanent autumn forests. There are shrines/temples dedicated to Lunala, Cresselia, and Darkrai.

Sienna Desert north is mostly semi arid plains and shrubland, though more south you go, the more rich and earthy and dry and hot it becomes, with fantastic mesas in the southwest, and seas of sand in the southeast and around Lost Springs. There are shrines/temples here dedicated to Regirock, Terrakion, and Yveltal.

Sunbeam Prarielands dry grasslands and savannas but with a lot of life and sun and rolling hills. To the south, it becomes rocky and mountains with the smallish mountain Tor Mountain, where Little Stone Village mines and lives around. Dusty Lascaux is a famous dungeon here that has ancient pokemon cave paintings. There are shrines dedicated to Zygarde and Victini.

Primeval Plains is a mostly steppe region, that has very little population, but some great cavern based dungeons used for training Gold Rank teams. There are also a lot of ancient ruins here, and some dedicated to Registeel, Diancie, and Jirachi.

Eastern Pinelands this area feels like a cross between the pine covered Western Pinelands, but some of the omnimous and foggy weather of Harvest Woodlands. Inside you will find very strange landscapes and natural terrain, with lots of waterfalls and grottos. There is a shrine/temple dedicated to Zamazenta and Zacian here.

Origin Jungles the southern part of the continent, with a mixture of tropical rainforests, jungles, and some bamboo forests in the eastern mountains. Farther south is where the Epoch Wilds begin, a super mountainous, high altitude, super dense jungle region that you will get lost in no matter what and turned back, like the other super regions (Permafrost Tundra, Lost Lands, etc). Within the jungles, there are some ruins/temples dedicated to Mew and Zarude.

Seafoam Shores a smaller region that covers grassy and balmy shores, from pristine, white sand beaches, to volcanic black beaches, some with no trees and just seagrass, and some dense with palms. There is a famous resort called Marine Resort. There are shrines dedicated to Keldeo, Lugia, Meloetta.

Opal Isles these tiny islands spread far off from the map and cover a range of temples for the legendaries like Tapus, Manaphy, Kyogre. The main island and town is Indigo Island (or Indigo Village.)

Cumulus Islands floating islands as old as the region. this is where the postal service headquarters are located, Postmaster Dragonite's home.

Normal.pngMystery Regions
These vast regions are found at the edges of the main region. They act like giant Mystery Dungeons, but taking over a huge region. If you were to enter from from the other side, they would appear normal and you would quickly end up in the mainland. But if you enter from the mainland - they are mysterious - no matter how far you travel, you will get lost and then end up back at the beginning. They seem "self contained", as in, the inside of the region is larger than the outside of it or how it appears from space. They are theorized to be pocket dimensions created by prehistoric legendary pokemon, and may be the reason why Mystery Dungeons exist.

The Heavenly Spectrum Mountain Range [Theme Song] the most famous of the super regions, as more pokemon have tried to journey it than the others. from the outside, you see a neverending mountain range with a constant rainbow across it. The beginning part is easy to travel and there are even some dungeons, many which haven't been completely explored, making this a popular spot for explorers. New dungeons appear all the time. However, at a certain point traveling across the range, a rainbow halo will appear, and the farther you enter, you will pass out and appear at the beginning. Those living at the borders of the super region consider it sacred.

The Permafrost Tundra [Theme Songonce you get too far, you come across a blinding blizzard that no pokemon has ever been able to pass - not even Ice types.

The Epoch Wilds [Theme Song] a mountainous jungle region. The farther you go, the dizzier you become, before experiencing strange hallucinations, which grow strong and stronger before you pass out and wake up at the entrance. Those who have explored far enough have come across mysterious new plants and fruits. Some tree-top villages have been able to form at the edges of the region.

The Lost Lands [Theme Song] the hottest area of the desert regions. Even fire pokemon who normally withstand volcanic temperatures feel this is too hot once they get far enough. Those traveling will hallucinate mirages. Lost Springs is a town built on the edge where it is still safe, but can reach 130+ degrees in the summer months.

The Monumental Ocean [Theme Song] *not on the map, but would be just west of the Opal Isles / Oceanic Trench. A large section of the western sea, the farther you go the stormier it gets, before it becomes dangerous for even the most skillful Water-type swimmer.

The Grand Willowing Forest[Theme Song] an endless, mysterious mixed pine and deciduous forest. the farther you get, the more foggy and dense the air becomes, before you can only see white.

The Spectacular Steppe [Theme Songsomewhat familiar to the other steppe regions, though this area seems to climb higher and higher and become more faded and foggy the father you reach. Some have had visions of a glass temple and stairs when traveling.

Normal.pngLegendary Based Temples & Shrines

Below is a map of the various shrines or temples of the world. Some aren't named directly after the legendary, so there will be a small note by it to label each one. The purposes of these shrines are a place of worship / respect, as well as to take care of new incarnations of Legendary Pokemon after they are reborn.
