BONEDOLL LORE

Once, there was a God of Creation.
They had an apprentice, who was jealous of their abilities, but would eventually take over once the god faded to stardust.
Thus, they decided to form life out of porcelain, instead of from the air like their master.
They first decided to use ground-up human bones to create life.
They weren't as skilled as their master, and their creations simply created living dolls instead of humans.
However, they saw the potential in this, and decided to try using different kinds of bones to create different doll types.
Being fired in the Kiln of Life, they were imbued with magical powers allowing them to repair their own porcelain skin and even caused a skeleton to form inside the doll body.
When the God of Creation eventually turned to stardust and their apprentice became the new God, they continued to make bone dolls alongside humans.
The new God then took residence in a remote village, and taught only the purest of heart villagers how to make the special dolls, teaching them to use a spell to summon a small flame from the Kiln of Life to bring the dolls to life, with the bones of creatures they happened to stumble upon.
