Developing your Kofling

🍔 DEVELOPING YOUR KOFLING 🍔

This page is here to help spark some creative ideas for the backstory and personality of your new Kofling. It’s geared around existing designs (such as adoptables), but may be helpful for working on your MYO concept. I hope you find some use from it, and feel free to contribute suggestions (#suggestions channel in the server) with the avenues which helped you develop yours, so maybe other owners can benefit too!

1️⃣ Name 1️⃣

What’s in a name? Well, some letters, and in the case of Koflings, two syllables. Giving your Kofling a fitting name is a huge step towards getting a sense of them as a character. Remember that all Kofling names end in a vowel sound, but they can be from any (Latin alphabet) language, and be real words or completely made up. Check this list of pre-approved names. You can take one from the list, or use them as inspiration to think up your own. Consider what fits the Kofling’s design - #004 would obviously suit something such as “Froggo”, but maybe a more interesting choice would be “Lily”, as in lilypad, or “Welly” derived from their source item, frog-themed welly boots. They could also be called Welly with Froggo as a nickname; Koflings can also have official names as well as nicknames, but both must fit the normal naming convention (as Ype with Burgie).

2️⃣ Temperament 2️⃣

This is an interesting thing to consider about your Kofling, because it reveals a bit about their past experiences with humans. Are they human-friendly? Or rather shy? Koflings are never aggressive or territorial, but there are a wide range of different personalities that can be seen among them. Think about your Kofling’s relationship with the human who owns their source item. Have they met? Is the Kofling wanted, or treated as a nuisance? Has their relationship changed over time? This would have a direct effect on how the Kofling feels about all humans. Do they get along better with girls, or boys? How do they feel about pet dogs and cats? Is their temperament what you would expect from their source item, or in contrast? This can be condensed to a brief answer for the refsheet such as "human-friendly", "timid", "nervous", "loves humans", etc.

3️⃣ Size 3️⃣

Given the item in their ears, most Koflings are provided with a set size on their reference sheet. For example, #003 is large because paperclips are a very common item, so their ears are full - causing them to grow big and strong. On the other hand, #004 is small because jumping frog toys are much harder to find. However, #005 is large because their ears are completely full, but egg gummies aren’t that common, which makes you wonder where they found all those candies! Perhaps they broke into a cinema, or maybe their owner went to the supermarket and bought whole carts to feed up the Kofling. Thinking about why your Kofling’s ears are full - or not - is a great place to start with development. You can change how full the ears are to fit with your ideas since the fullness isn’t set in stone and would change over time.

4️⃣ Source 4️⃣

Building on this idea of development from the Kofling’s item, the most important item of all is the one they manifested from: their origin/source item. Take a look at the source item your Kofling came from. What is it? Is it gaudy, chic, expensive, cheap, etc.? Based on those traits, what kind of person would own it? How old were they when they owned it? What did they use it for? Is it in good condition? Did it have previous owners before this one? Who gave it to them, or did they find/buy it themselves? Maybe it’s not theirs, but belonged to someone special to them, such as a passed grandparent or a friend who moved away. Or maybe they even stole it! Most importantly, what happy memory does it hold for them? How long has it been left alone (5 years minimum)? Why was it left alone - did the owner want a Kofling to manifest? Whereabouts was it left (in the attic, a warehouse, a cellar, a childhood bedroom)?
