For the past two years, zombies have roamed the land, having taken over the once human-dominated country. In this case, though, they aren't exactly zombies. They're more like monsters -- humans that have mutated beyond recognition. In the year 2051, these monsters "rained down" from the sky. Some died on impact, but those who survived went on a rampage. Many citizens died on Launch Day, and the NIGHT Virus only took one month to overwhelm the country.

Necropolis will take place in a single city located in New York: City Island. The city is small, spanning only 1.5 miles (2.4 km) long and 0.5 miles (0.8 km) wide. The total area is cramped, but full of Nightmares. During the panic of Launch Day, the bridge out of City Island collapsed. Abandoned vehicles rest silently in the rubble, partially submerged and rotting away. The island's inhabitants are trapped.

Survivors can choose to be locals who were in the city during the bridge's collapse, or they can choose to be outsiders who ventured to the city by boat, only to have it capsized and destroyed by Nightmares. The latter folk would have barely made it on shore and alive, most likely unwilling to venture close to the shore again, thus trapping themselves on the island.

Being such a small area, though, people are bound to run into each other. But would they be friend... or foe? Allies are useful in this society, but betrayal is a whole other story.
