Era

Introduced: December 23, 2020 (v1.2 "The Chalk Prince and the Dragon" [first half])
Voiced by: N/A

"Era, second-in-command of the Investigation Team of the Knights of Favonius, at your service! If you need anything, let me know. I'll do my best to help!"

Rarity: 4★
Element: Dendro
Weapon: Bow
Constellation: Lignum Scientiae, the Tree of Knowledge

The de facto second-in-command of the Investigation Team of the Knights of Favonius who also serves as a part-time assistant to Albedo. Era is a capable knight despite still learning the full extent of her abilities as a Dendro user, and the city knows that they can count on her when crisis strikes.

Era's skillset lies in immobilizing and debuffing her opponents while buffing and supporting her teammates. Her Skill, Ensnare, summons bramble vines that stun smaller opponents and stagger larger opponents, while her Burst, Hostile Environment, has her shatter a potion to create a Dendro field, inflicting enemies in its radius with a Dendro DoT. When fully upgraded, she can reduce enemies' resistance to Dendro damage and slow their movement while dealing more damage to low HP foes; her Burst also lasts longer, reaches farther, and heals her allies while increasing their critical hit rate within its radius.

Fluttering Leaf

  • Alchemy is Magic: Her Burst uses an alchemical potion to augment her Dendro powers, manifesting as a green poison cloud.
  • Area of Effect: Her Burst spawns a Dendro field that applies a DoT to enemies in its radius. Her fourth ascension passive increases its radius and duration, and her fourth and sixth constellation upgrades give it the ability to heal allies and increase their critical hit rate, respectively.
  • Attack on the Heart: In "Shadows Amidst Snowstorms: Act II", she helps Albedo stop his Fellflower double with an arrow to the spot where its heart should be while he stabs it through the back. Unfortunately, it wasn't a killing blow, but the imagery remains.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: She's shown to be able to practically keep up with Albedo in the deduction department, and on her own, she's a good investigator and analyst.
    • In "Midsummer Island Adventure", it's made clear that she realized that "Dodo-King" is Alice long before the actual reveal. The only unclear part is if she realized it at the same time as Albedo or after him.
    • During "Shadows Amidst Snowstorms", she quickly realizes that Subject Two isn't really Albedo due to his mannerisms and noticing the missing star mark after getting close enough. She only doesn't call him out immediately because Bennett's cry for help interrupts them. When bringing this up to Albedo later in the quest, she analyzes the things that Subject Two said and comes to the correct conclusion that he feels that he has nothing to lose by impersonating Albedo, which makes him dangerous to deal with.
    • She also immediately realizes that the Fellflower is not Albedo, but this time keeps quiet in order to analyze the situation further as they venture on. This allows her to respond quickly when it attacks, as well as sync up with the real Albedo when he shows up again.
    • In "Hues of the Violet Garden", she consistently has the same conclusion as those around her or is able to quickly understand how they got to that conclusion.
  • Badass Bookworm: She outright states that she spends some of her spare time in the library in her voice lines, and she's eager to learn about anything that catches her interest. She's also a full-fledged Knight of Favonius who is handy in battle.
  • Badass Longcoat: She wears a long green duster and is a capable archer and knight in-story.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She's a very gentle, helpful person. This doesn't stop her from sending an arrow straight into the chest of Albedo's antagonistic double. There was also an incident in her past (mentioned during "The Chalk Prince and the Dragon") where she was kidnapped by an alliance of Treasure Hoarders and Fatui, having been targeted because she was seen as the softest and weakest member of the Investigation Team due to being new to both the team and to owning a Vision; she subdued multiple assailants by herself during her escape and rescue, despite being heavily injured.
  • Big Sister Instinct:
    • In the prequel comic, she immediately agrees to help Amber protect and aid Collei and does her best to be a comforting presence. In the game proper, she immediately asks about Collei's well-being in her voice line about her and expresses pride in her growth and progress. "Windblume's Breath" further demonstrates this, as Era immediately asks to see where Collei's Eleazar has healed when they meet up face-to-face, and she's clearly delighted to see her becoming friends with Sucrose. Era later mentions that meeting Collei for the first time gave her an overwhelming desire to protect her, despite Collei's aggression and mistrust back then, since all she could think about was the suffering Collei must have endured.
    • During the "Midsummer Island Adventure", she immediately sets off to find Klee after receiving a letter from "Dodo-King" claiming that she's in danger. In general, Era is shown to be incredibly fond of Klee, and she has an outspoken desire to be a positive influence in her life.
  • Childhood Friends: With Amber. Both grew up in the Knights' care, with Era's father being the Chief Alchemist and Amber's grandfather being the Outrider captain, and the two are as close as sisters.
  • Clingy Sleepers: Era knows she's a cuddly sleeper. It leads to some cute moments between her and, say, Amber or Klee — and leaves her mortified the first time she ends up sharing sleeping arrangements with Albedo. Luckily for her, he doesn't seem to mind.
  • Combat Medic: Her fourth constellation upgrade, Here to Help, turns her Burst field into a healing field for her allies while still damaging enemies.
  • Combat Tentacles: Her Skill summons bramble vines that temporarily stun or stagger targets within range and apply the Dendro effect.
  • Cool Big Sis:
    • She serves as this to Sucrose, as the more confident and socially capable of the two who tries to help her friend break out of her shell.
    • Era is one of the few that Klee will always listen to since she's close with Albedo and is willing to help her with her bomb-making. Era even tries to teach her restraint, though she has yet to succeed.
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff: Her first constellation upgrade, Cut and Weaken, lowers the Dendro resistance of enemies hit by her Skill by 15% for 6 seconds.
  • Disappeared Dad: Era's father, the former Chief Alchemist, died after a Knight expedition sent to investigate Abyssal activity turned catastrophic, shortly before Albedo came to Mondstadt.
  • Elemental Personalities: A Dendro wielder who is calm, gentle, and always looking after the people around her. She's also heavily focused on her own personal growth and pursuit of knowledge.
  • Friendly Sniper: She's a capable archer, but still kind and helpful.
  • Green Means Natural: Her coat, corset, palms of her gloves, boots, and hair ribbon are green. Guess what element her Vision is?
  • Green Thumb: She was granted a Dendro Vision, giving her power over plants and nature.
  • I Don't Want to Ruin Our Friendship: This is the reason she gives for not telling Albedo about her crush on him if the Traveler asks about it in her hangout. She reasons that he's probably observant and intelligent enough to notice her feelings, but she won't be the one to try to act on anything unless he makes a move first, since he so rarely makes deep connections with people in the first place.
  • Intimate Hair Brushing: Era's way of admitting she absolutely trusts someone is allowing them to braid her hair or otherwise play with and style it. Her "More About IV" voice line (unlocked at friendship 5) has her asking the Traveler to braid her hair when she's upset, stating that it was something her father used to do when she was a child. Whether it could be seen as platonic or romantic is debatable, but it's a clear sign of how much she trusts the Traveler should you raise her friendship level that far.
  • Leaving You to Find Myself: Prompted by the events of "Invitation of Windblume", Era takes a trip through Liyue alone to try and sort out her feelings for Albedo without him by her side, while also taking the chance to study Liyue's culture and history. It's clear that Albedo took it as this trope when the Traveler speaks with him about it, and her return prompts a much-needed discussion between the two and a Relationship Upgrade, just in time for "Midsummer Island Adventure".
  • Long Hair Is Feminine: She has long ginger hair pulled back in a ponytail, and there's a notable elegance to her archery.
  • Loved by All: Other characters' voice lines about Era show that they are generally fond of her and have positive opinions of her.
  • Master Poisoner: Her Burst has her throwing a vial of something (implied to be an alchemical poison) at the enemy and shooting it with a Dendro-infused arrow, inflicting a Dendro DoT and generating a Dendro field.
  • Mayfly–December Romance: Era is just a normal human, albeit a Vision user, while Albedo is a homunculus who is very likely several decades old, if not centuries.
  • Nice Girl: Most of her on-screen appearances show her as a decent person who tries to get along with everyone she meets and remains diplomatic at worst, and all of her voice lines about other characters are positive. Even her line about Kaeya has some fondness in her tone towards the end, despite it outwardly being about how insufferable she finds him.
  • Non-Human Lover Reveal: The events of "Shadows Amidst Snowstorms" lead Albedo to finally reveal his true nature as an Artificial Human to both Era and the Traveler. Era admits that she had already suspected as much, and that clearly it isn't a problem since, by this time, they've been dating for about half a year.
    • Era: The way you came into this world... doesn't matter to me. Because I know who you are right now. You're Albedo Kreideprinz, Chief Alchemist of the Knights of Favonius. You're Klee's big brother. You're Sucrose and Timaeus' teacher. You're my captain. But, more importantly... you're my partner, and I love you. Synthetic or natural-born, nothing can change that.
  • Number Two: She acts as such to Albedo in regard to the Investigation Team. When he's busy with his experiments, more often than not it is she who takes over as The Face of their division.
  • Older than They Look: Despite using the "Medium Female" model (like other characters who are known to be teenagers) and having plenty of Youthful Freckles, she is explicitly an adult. She is shown drinking in Angel's Share and during Weinlesefest, and she is old and mature enough for Albedo (who is much older than he looks) to consider entering a romantic relationship with her.
  • Omniglot: She's studied several different languages since she was young, and she has shown the ability to read several nations' native or ancient languages with relative ease.
  • Only One Finds It Fun: "Windblume's Breath" reveals Era as one of the few people to find Cyno's jokes funny, calling them "clever". She is seen in multiple scenes showing clear amusement and audibly giggling at his puns.
  • Pals with Jesus: She considers Venti a good enough friend to be willing to provide him with alcohol as payment for his performances, and she also trusts him enough to let him braid her hair. What she doesn't know is that he's actually Barbatos, the Anemo Archon. Though she definitely has her suspicions, especially after "Midsummer Island Adventure".
  • Redhead in Green: She has ginger hair and wears a green duster. She also has a Dendro Vision, which is also green.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper:
    • When Albedo reveals his non-human status to her and the Traveler, Era admits that she'd already deduced it based on her own observations coupled with comments he's made over the years they've known each other. She didn't say anything because it didn't matter to her, and she knew he'd only tell her outright when he was ready.
    • It's implied that she at least strongly suspects Venti is Barbatos. However, she never confronts him on this or brings it up to anyone else. The closest she ever comes is gifting him a bottle of her and her father's Thousand-Wind Wine during "Of Ballads and Brews".
  • Shipper on Deck:
    • Kaeya seems to be gunning for Albedo and Era to just start dating already. His voice line about Era has him ask the Traveler to ask her about her crush on Albedo. Albedo and Era's second voice lines about each other then imply that the Traveler asked both of them about it, upon which both ask if Kaeya put them up to it. The shit-eating grin he sports when Alice calls out their relationship during "Midsummer Island Adventure" only serves this point further.
    • Venti seems absolutely delighted to read Era's love poem aloud in front of Albedo during "Invitation of Windblume".
  • Ship Tease: She and Albedo get several moments, starting almost from the moment Era is introduced in Albedo's story quest. One of her profile voice lines about him even has her denying that she has a crush while sounding extremely flustered.
  • Short-Range Guy, Long-Range Guy: When fighting next to the Traveler or Albedo, as both are sword users while she's a bow user.
  • Situational Damage Attack: Her second constellation upgrade, Press the Advantage, turns her Skill into this, giving it 20% more damage on targets with less than 50% of their health.
  • Sliding Scale of Gameplay and Story Integration:
    • Era's utility passive, Lay of the Land, allows her to track Mondstadt's local specialties, which makes perfect sense; as an alchemist, she'd need to know exactly where to find reagents.
    • While Era's element being Dendro means she can't create reactions with her fellow Investigation Team members Albedo (Geo) and Sucrose (Anemo), both of them have abilities that boost the party's Elemental Mastery, meaning they can enable her reactions with characters she can react with, such as Amber (her childhood best friend (Pyro)), Klee (whom she helps look after and take care of (Pyro)), and Lisa (who lets her spend as much time in the library as she wants and gives her advice (Electro)).
  • Spotting the Thread: Contrary to the Traveler and Paimon, Era quickly realizes that they've encountered an impostor instead of the real Albedo despite also having no prior knowledge of said impostor existing. Being his girlfriend and right-hand woman, she'd have a much easier time noticing the missing star mark.
  • Support Party Member: Her skills revolve around weakening the enemy while buffing her teammates.
  • Team Mom: She's the one most often making sure the full-time alchemists she's found herself in a Knight company with are taking care of themselves properly. She also ensures that the Traveler receives a proper coat before escorting them to Dragonspine during Albedo's story quest, and one of her idle voice lines has her reminding them that resting is good.
  • Upgrade Artifact: A variant—her third and fifth Constellation upgrades, Vine Whip and A Spot of Alchemy, increase the talent levels of, respectively, her Skill and Burst by three.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Downplayed; despite Era's constant annoyance at Kaeya's teasing and flippant demeanor, the two can get along when it counts, and it's clear that they see each other as family. Notably, Era openly admits that she missed him while he was in Sumeru when she shows up during one of his hangout branches.
  • Weapon Specialization: She wields the Favonius Warbow in her character trailer and official art. The bow's lore states that only the best archers can unlock its full potential, painting her as a competent archer and knight. Its ascension substat of Energy Recharge (13.3%-61.3%), as well as its Windfall passive having a 60%-100% chance of generating extra energy from critical hits, also allows her to quickly charge up her Burst before swapping out to another character who can benefit from its buffs.
  • Youthful Freckles: She has highly visible freckles on her face, shoulders, and arms, and she just so happens to spend a lot of time outdoors due to both her knightly duties and her own interests.
