 About

Arabella is an ancient vampire, who lived as a human during the Spanish Inquisition era. She has spent the majority of her immortal life with Katarina, but is much older than her. She is very passionate about the inner workings of the Magickal world, as well as relations between the various species that occupy it. Because of this, she has worked over time to earn a place on the Head Council of Magick & Magickal Beings as a Councilwoman and Ambassador for vampires. Her jurisdiction is based out of Chicago and she represents most of the Midwestern North America area.

Ara comes from a very old and powerful clan of vampires, which she ran away from when she was young, alongside Katarina, due to their outdated beliefs. The clan still lives, and many have come looking for her-- some with friendly concern, and others not so much-- but she considers her family to be estranged. She enjoys the company of her wife and their two cats, and also likes to serve as a mentor for the magickal youth that tend to hang out around Katarina's shop, treating them as if they were her own children, whereas Katarina treats them as students and apprentices.

Arabella is immortal, and due to her very old age, has outgrown many of the weaknesses of young vampires, including high sensitivity to sunlight, being mortally wounded by silver, etc. Her level of power is a rarity in the magickal world, as most vampires tend to get themselves killed before they reach near-indestructibility, whether it be by making the wrong enemies, or simply being foolish and bringing havoc to the human world.

She has multiple magickal powers, including manipulation of the mind and mind-reading.

 Personality

Arabella is seen as kind and wise. She is very soft-spoken, and when she does speak, she is concise and efficient. She has a natural nurturing personality, and tends to draw people's true selves out into the open-- both with and without her manipulative powers. She is a strong listener, and has become a sort of makeshift therapist for her friends and apprentices. Because of these traits, she does an amazing job as Councilwoman, settling disputes and putting unrest at ease.

All mom-like qualities aside, Ara has a strong wild streak. She is a big fan of body modification, and she often chooses to dress in more provocative clothing than the average five century-old vampire. However, that is not to say she is not faithful to her wife-- She has an unconditional adoration for Katarina, and only around her does she ever show the slightest hint of emotional turmoil or questioning. To others, she is calm and collected, but with Katarina, she can be as "human" as she needs to be-- able to release her worldly woes without fear of judgement. The two share a very strong relationship that others admire them for.

• She is the brains of the business. She enjoys making spreadsheets, budgeting, and doing all the "boring" office work. 
• Her family moved to Spain from Africa. Her family was a leading vampire clan for many generations and has been around since the Old World.
• The only formal schooling she has ever attended was a boarding school for girls in Spain, where she learned things like etiquette, ballet, embroidery, and horseback riding. Informally, she is highly trained in hand-to-hand combat as well as full-scale Marine Corps training, schooling, and four years of active duty service.
• She enjoys the modern club/bar scene simply for the colors and music. She is very social.

 Relationships

Katarina Laurent  [ Wife ]  Katarina has known Arabella since the day that she was separated from her coven-- that being because Arabella's clan is the one that saved Katarina's life, took her in, and turned her into a vampire. The two started out as best friends, with Ara being Rina's mentor of sorts-- explaining how to feed, her new strengths and weaknesses, etc. They spent every moment together, knew everything about each other, but Ara's clan was not without its flaws.  Ara's "family" was an ancient lineage of vampires, where status was determined by age, and some of the higher-ups had some rather ancient values. It was decided that both Ara and Rina would be presented to the men of the clan, among other girls, to be chosen as wives. The night before their presentation, Ara came to Rina in tears and begged her to run away with her. Without hesitation, the two dashed into the wilderness, and spent the following decades exploring the world together, experiencing all of the pleasures of a lifetime and of many more to come.  Arabella, being much more level-headed and socially amicable, had worked her way to politics in the underground world of magickal beings, and maintained her position in Chicago. The two could not be more opposite of one another, and yet fit together as perfectly as ever.
