Background

He grew up in a relatively well-of family in "The Big Apple", aka New York City. Many vacations, his family would visit a town in Arizona called Tempe, where one of his mother's old university friends, Karen, lived. This friend had settled down with a family of her own, and Joshua, along with his sisters, were introduced to their children. It was here that he first met Michelle, the (then youngest) middle child of the Campbell's. The two kept in contact, forming an everlasting friendship, just as their mothers' had done several years prior.

As the family grew to consist of five people, Joshua's parents decided to move away from New York, in searches of some sort of "tranquility", and to let their children grow up in a more calmer enviroment than the busy streets of New York. While deciding on where to move, Joshua's mother had heard from Karen, who had moved to a small town in Michgan just a few years prior, about the town. After convincing Joshua's father, the family packed up their life in the city, and moved to Craydon, Michigan.

At the age of 8, Joshua started school in Craydon, in the same class as Michelle. The two would hang out and play together, as well as work on homework (which mostly consisted of Joshua helping out Michelle). At the new school, Joshua never really got to know many of the other students. Sure, he got along well enough with them, sharing note and talking about school-related stuff, but he never really made a propper friend.

As his interest in the fantastical genre developed at the age of 13, he stumbled upon a strange "game" - a game in which the players create their own characters, and play out what these characters would do in a world of endless possibilities. This "game", of course, was roleplaying and D&D. He became obsessed with the game, and joined the local roleplaying club in order to satisfy his need to play. He made some friends here, who went together and formed a party of their own, who to this day still meet up at a regular basis, continuing their year-long quest and story, exploring the unending world and planes.

During his 14th year, he began feeling this strange feeling in his chest whenever he saw one of Michelle's old classmate hanging out with this... girl. He didn' t really know who she was, other than that she was probably in his paralell class. He tried seeking advice from Michelle, but as she was slightly more dense to those kinds of things than himself, she couldn't really offer much help. Joshua spent most of that year doing what he did best - seek advice from books. Specifically, teenage romance novels. Which, to him, were some of the most cliche and boring types of books he had encountered. Nonetheless, they did offer some kind of advice, although the quality of it was really dubious.

The next year, he began executing the plan he had formed based on the books he had read - he would "randomly" bump into her, so that she would (hopefully) recognize him, and maybe they'd start talking together. There was, however, one problem with this plan. The girl had a tendency to "dissapear" during breaks, making it harder for him to find her. After trying to stick to "the plan" for a few months, he decided to try find some other books for some different advice. However, as he left the school library with some of his "study material", he was suddenly knocked to the ground, along with someone else. This someone else, as it turned out, was the very same girl. Before he could even get out a word, the girl stood up, and grumbled as she walked away.

This event happened several times over the course of the next two months. Joshua would borrow some books, and then the two would bumo into each other as he was exiting and she was leaving for her "hiding spot", as Joshua had dubbed it. At the end of the two months, the girl, having grown more and more annoyed at recognizing the same person for almost making her fall several times (she'd grown better and better at maintaining her balance), finally talked to him. Well, talked and talked. She more or less asked why he was following her around, at the same time as Joshua finally got the curage to ask her why she always walked into him as he was exiting the library. After a moment of silence, the two laughed at the similarity of questions asked at the same time, and introduced themselves to eachother. Joshua finally learned the girl's name - Sigrún.

After this encounter, the two would still run into each other as Joshua would leave the library (he had by that point read all of the books pertaining romance that he could find, and had gone over to his usual type of books), and they would just talk about everything and nothing. Sigrún was really passionate about the video games she kept playing, something which Joshua could somewhat relate to with his obsession with roleplaying games (which was a genre of video games that Sigrún would play often).

During the last days before Christmas break, Joshua began noticing that him and Sigrún would meet less and less. Feeling a bit dejected, thinking that he somehow had made her feel weirded out by him. He tried once again to consult Michelle, who, upon hearing Sigrúns name, began grinning and simply told him that "Everything'll untangle themselves with time, yeah?". None the wiser, Joshua sat down on one of the benches scattered around the school, trying to figure out a solution himself. After a while, he heard someone approaching, and as he turned to face the person, he immediately recognized it as Sigrún. Unlike the normal Sigrún, however, she was beet red in her face. As soon as Joshua recognized Sigrún, he sprung up, and immediately asked if he'd weirded her out or something, since she'd been avoiding him. Taken aback, Sigrún reassured him that that was not the reason she'd been avoiding him, and, between some stuttering, confessed to him. Joshua could feel his heart soaring higher than ever before, and told Sigrún that he felt the same way, which she was surprised to find out. This marked the start of their relationship.

As the two began hanging out, Joshua introduced Sigrún to Michelle, his childhood friend, and Sigrún brung along her best (and only) friend Lorelei, who Sigrún was surprised to learn already knew Michelle
