"Just take your seat and make yourself comfortable - I'll transform you into a brand new you!"

Name: Chiharu Akio
Age: 18
Gender: Female (she/her)
Birthday: April 26th
Talent: Ultimate Makeup Artist

Personality

Chiharu is a peppy girl who always tries to keep positive and put a smile on her face. She's always helpful, always supportive, never complains - truly, an ideal person to work with. She has a great eye for detail and is good at emphasizing the best qualities of others. Despite her bright personality, she prefers not to draw too much attention to herself, and smoothly changes the topic if the focus ends up being on her. If someone were to think about it for too long, they'd probably realize they didn't actually know anything about Chiharu beyond the most basic surface level.

She's incredibly perceptive and emotionally intelligent, but prefers to keep her cards close to her chest and play dumb. She keeps all of her bitterness and selfishness and resentment locked away in her heart and puts on a smile again and again, no matter how exhausting it is. While she continues to keep her complicated feelings buried and appeal to people's superficial views of her, deep down she truly wishes she had someone she could bare her soul to - a connection that she could entrust the key to her heart to.

Backstory

Chiharu was born in Tokyo, Japan alongside her twin sister ██, later known as Daichi. Neither knew who their father was, and their mother was a neglectful and emotionally distant alcoholic. The two essentially had to raise themselves, and as such, were closer to each other than anyone else. Though times were difficult, Chiharu still regards these days with a certain level of fondness.

Everything had changed for the two when they had gotten stopped on the way home from school one day by a scout who offered Chiharu the opportunity to star in a commercial. Chiharu agreed, but only if Daichi was able to star with her. This was a turning point in both of their lives - once they got their foot in the door of the entertainment industry, it was as if they had both become sensations overnight. More offers came pouring in, only getting bigger and bigger in scope overtime as they moved up from commercials to dramas to blockbuster hits.

At first, it had been exciting. Chiharu had certainly enjoyed meeting new people and getting to experience all sorts of luxuries and opportunities that she would've never had the chance to before, and she enjoyed working with her brother. That was, until the first time that Daichi had lied. During that fateful interview that would change their relationship forever, Chiharu had sat frozen as Daichi spun a completely false tale with complete ease. Knowing she couldn't just call him out in front of everyone, she sat there and played along, even as discomfort settled in her chest.

When Chiharu confronted him afterwards, he deflected. "What was wrong with a little while lie to keep the glamour alive?" was what he said said. Chiharu had tried to not look too unsettled.

Things continued onward like that. Daichi continued to pile up the lies more and more, to the point where even she didn't know how to keep up anymore. She had gotten into acting to escape the life she was living before, but now, she couldn't help but want to escape the lie of their life that Daichi had been so carefully building. She didn't want to be revered by the masses like some sort of untouchable god - if she could not even trust her own twin, once her only "truth" in this world, then all she wanted was to find someone who could understand her.

It hadn't taken long after that until Chiharu had quit acting. She told Daichi that it wasn't because of him, that it wasn't because she didn't want to help keep up the act that he had created, but just because she felt like she would fit better backstage rather than in the spotlight.

They both knew she was lying.

Life backstage as a makeup artist was definitely more fun, but as Chiharu found, not exactly more relaxing. There was nobody who saw her as a regular person, just on the same level as them - all of them had fallen for the glamorous lies that Daichi had spun and Chiharu herself had fuelled. Despair crept in as she realized that no matter what she did, they would both never be able to return to the normalcy of their old lives. She had sealed both of their fates the moment she agreed to step into the entertainment industry.

It had been no surprise that Daichi had been scouted by Hope's Peak as the Ultimate Actor, but Chiharu was a little more surprised when she received an invite too, as the Ultimate Makeup Artist. Though, when she thought about it, it was no wonder she had taken such a shine to the art form and grown so proficient so quickly. After all, even before stepping backstage, she had already been an expert at painting on masks - on both herself, and her brother.

And thus, she painted her mask back on her face again, and continued forward to the next stage of her life with a smile.

Relationships

Daichi Akio (profile)

Chiharu and Daichi used to be close when they were younger, but times have changed. On the surface level, they treat each other kindly and seem to get along well, but there's an intense disconnect between them. They feel more like strangers than siblings most days. More than anything, Chiharu wishes she could go back to what they had before everything had changed. It might be selfish for her, but there are a lot of days where she wishes she had never taken that scout's offer. Maybe then she could still have her brother by her side.

Kayo Mikami (profile)

Kayo had bounced into Chiharu's life with a bright smile that didn't quite reach her eyes and played nice with her, and though Chiharu knew within an instant that Kayo was a liar like her, that the "connection" she's looking for couldn't be found with her, she kept her mouth shut and played along. Their friendship feels like playing house, going through the motions of what a friendship should be with no actual substance behind it. Maybe in another life things could be different between them.

Trivia

  • Chiharu was my first ever Danganronpa OC, and was made for a killing game roleplay on fanfiction.net forums. I was about 10 when I made her. And yes, I absolutely should not have been into Danganronpa that young.
  • As she was my first Danganronpa OC, she's naturally been through a lot of changes over the years. However, I'd say her surface level personality hasn't strayed too much from my original vision for her.
  • Her favorite food is raspberry pancakes.
