★ The Pokemon Coordinator

3541707_48btNzURklMh5eI.png A hush came over the hall as Regan stepped into the spotlight. The crowd had heard of the elite Pokemon coordinator before, and they must have known they were in for a treat. While other coordinators decked themselves out in flamboyant costumes, Regan's own apparel was simple. He wore all black save for the silver flame necklace tied around his neck. His dyed red hair was slicked back into a high ponytail and tied in place with a black string. A smirk danced on his lips, indicating that he was fully aware that he had the audience in his thrall already. And that he was thoroughly enjoying it.

Taking a Pokeball from the belt around his waist, he held it high into the air. "Ponyta, it's your turn to shine!" He called in a clear voice. The Ponyta sprang forth from the Pokeball, her blue mane and tail shining brightly. A collective gasp rose from the crowd. They might have heard of the elusive shiny Pokemon, but few had ever seen one before. Regan's hand came to rest lightly on the Ponyta's back, allowing the moment to swell. It was as though Regan could feel the people in the crowd coming to the edge of their seats. Before the tension went on for too long, he raised his hand and pointed. "Ponyta, agility!"

The shiny Pokemon sprang into action, running across the field and quickly gaining speed. Regan shouted a second command. "Fire spin!" A plume of blue fire flew from Ponyta's mouth. She outpaced it, and ran through the blue fire. For a moment it seemed to engulf her, and then she was through. The audience broke out into applause, entranced at the sight of the Ponyta emerging from fire.

"Ponyta, bounce!" Regan shouted to be heard above the thunderous applause. His Ponyta complied, jumping high into the air. "Flame wheel!" Once again the Ponyta was suddenly engulfed in blue fire. But when she landed the fire flew from her in a perfect sphere, coming to the center of the field and exploding in a blast of blue sparks. The crowd began to cheer along with their clapping. "Fire spin again!" Regan roared. Ponyta did, shooting swirling fire from her mouth. "And bounce!" She bounced into the fire, and climbed upwards. The fire trailed after her in a spiraling tower. When she came back to the ground, she landed lightly beside Regan. Her neck bent to bow, and Regan's did as well. His smile grew beneath the swelling sound from the audience.

It was hardly a surprise to him or anyone else there when Regan was awarded the ribbon for first place. He added the Solaceon Town ribbon to his case, and awarded the crowd with another smug smile. Regan was simply the best at Pokemon coordination. In that there was no contest.

★ Personality

178511_IzSkddymHcoQYx8.png

Regan is a world class jerk. After tasting his first victory at a Pokemon coordinator contest, all he wanted to do was to continue to win. It didn't matter who he hurt along the way - be it other people or his Pokemon. The only thing that matters is winning. He's participated in a fair amount of contests, and usually does end up taking first place. When he doesn't, he's apt to say the contest was rigged. He will then force his Pokemon into an even more grueling training routine to ensure he does not lose at his next contest. Though it hasn't always been the case, his Pokemon are only seen as tools by him. Their sole purpose is to help him achieve his goals. Therefore, he will treat them like tools.

Regan specializes in fire-type Pokemon because he enjoys coming up with catch phrases to match them ("I'm too hot to handle!"). He also feels that they compliment his look,and his first Pokemon happened to be a fire-type. His biggest goal in life is to one day beat Fantina at a Pokemon show. However, she knows that he doesn't truly care for his Pokemon, and so she refuses to go against him in a contest.

Ponyta (shiny)

|| female

When competing in contests it's likely Regan will use his Ponyta. She mistakes his attention for love when all he is trying to do is spruce her up to look her best for the contests. This works in Regan's favor since it makes his Ponyta more likely to want to perform well. Moves: Fire Spin, Agility, Bounce, Flame Wheel

Slugma

|| male

Regan did not choose the Slugma. The Slugma chose him. Since then he has been trying to get rid of his Slugma, but he just keeps coming back. Since Slugma refuses to leave him alone, Regan has decided to use him in some of the Pokemon contests so the crowds do not get bored of seeing Ponyta on repeat. Moves: Smog, Ember, Incinerate, Lava Plume

Flareon

|| female

Flareon was Regan's first Pokemon. When he was younger he used to emotionally care for the Pokemon, but that changed as his appetite for winning grew. He now seldom uses his Flareon because he doesn't think she has the potential to help him win any contests. Moves: Sand Attack, Quick Attack, Ember, Tail Whip.

★ Background

178518_krxhQwEjYHPERC6.png Most children receive their first Pokemon at a young age, and Regan of Snowpoint City in the Sinnoh region was no different. He received an Eevee in the hopes that he would one day evolve his Pokemon into a Glaceon. A fine Pokemon for a trainer in Snowpoint City to have. Regan and his Eevee did everything together. They often explored around the Snowpoint Temple, though they were never allowed access inside. It didn't matter to Regan. So long as he was with his Eevee, he was happy.

After bonding with his Eevee, Regan's parents gave him the option of going to an ice glacier and evolving his Pokemon. Regan refused. He was tired of the cold, and wanted something warm for once. He evolved his Eevee into a fine Flareon, and the two continued to thrive happily together. During their adventures, they came across a young Pokemon Coordinator named Fantina. She and her Drifblim introduced Regan to the world of Pokemon contests. He trained diligently with his Flareon, and eventually the two went to Hearthome City to show their skills. They managed to win first place, and winning awoke a darker side to Regan.

His training with Flareon became more involved. Soon, he began to treat his Pokemon not as a friend, but as a tool to win more contests. He became emotionally distant as he became more and more obsessed with becoming the best. Regan added other fire Pokemon to his roster, and eventually stopped using Flareon in contests. He decided she did not have the skill set to help him to continue winning, and he did not want to be held back.

Regan travels alone now. He still has his Pokemon, but keeps them inside their Pokeballs except when he is training or grooming them for contests.

★ Just Another Contest

Regan stood beyond the curtains, studying the blue-flamed Ponyta in front of him. His arms were crossed over his chest, and his expression could only be described as displeased. The Ponyta, sensing his displeasure, danced from hoof to hoof nervously, but that only seemed to worsen the trainer's mood. "Stand still," he snapped, and the Ponyta hastened to obey.

Lifting blue eyes, Regan scanned the other competitors for the show. He didn't recognize many of them, but that wasn't much of a surprise. They were lower-tiered coordinators. His chances of winning this show were all but guaranteed. At the thought, his expression turned into a smug grin. The contest might be an easy win, but he would never turn down another medal. Another one to add to his collection.

A voice sounded over the speaker system, and Regan paid it half a mind. It welcomed its audience to the show, and people screamed and cheered with anticipation. The voice went on to assure the crowd that they would have a great show. It then began to introduce the judges. "...And today we have a very special guest judge. Fantina from Hearthome City!"

The audience continued to holler, but Regan couldn't hear them anymore. He had frozen when Fantina's name had been called, and it echoed again and again in his mind. The pesky gym leader, and fellow Pokemon Coordinator, always refused to go against him in a contest. Now she was here. Judging him! His certain victory didn't seem quite so certain anymore. "Ponyta, return," he called, lifting up his Pokeball so the fire pony would go back inside. He placed it to his belt, selecting a different Pokeball next. "Come out, Slugma." He couldn't keep the annoyance from his tone as the little Slugma came out. It instantly crawled to him, stopping when it reached his shoes. Regan rolled his eyes. "You're going into the Pokemon contest. Try to remember your training."

Several coordinators went before Regan, and he watched their performances with a look of disdain. The judges gave them good reviews, but it was clear they were just being nice. This rag-tag group wouldn't know a Pokemon Contest from PokeCenter. "Next we have a coordinator from Snowpoint City," the voice over the speaker announced. "Put your hands together for Regan!"

Beckoning for the Slugma to follow with a crook of his finger, he walked confidently onto the stage. The audience roared their excitement, and Regan gave a slight smile, marred only slightly when he felt the Slugma nudge his foot again. "What's this?" The announcer cried. "It appears as though Regan has decided not to use his famed Ponyta, and has opted to use a Slugma instead. Let's see how the duo do!"

Regan's eyes flickered over to the judge's table for a moment. He saw Fantina leaning forward slightly, and his smile returned. In a clear voice, he shouted out a command to the Slugma. "Slugma, smog!"

Despite the affection the Pokemon had been showing for its trainer, it turned at the shouted command and sent a cloud of smoke out onto the stage. The thick smoke was allowed to spread some before Regan gave another command. "Now use ember!" The Slugma obeyed, and sparks of fire flew from its frame. The sparks attached themselves to the smoke still lingering in the air, giving off a display reminiscent of Volbeats and Illumise dancing in the night. Regan listened as the crowd gave a gasp at the sight, and then broke out into applause. "Use lava plume!" He called, and the slugma sent a stream of fire through the display. It broke apart, the embers and smoke drifting to the ground like burning snowflakes and ash. This show caused the audience to cheer until the sound was almost deafening. Once more, Regan gave his smug smile, and with a bow faced the judges.

He hardly heard what the first three told him. His attention was solely on Fantina, who remained expressionless as she stared back. Despite himself, he took in a deep breath and held it as she spoke up. "Tres magnifique! A truly stunning display. The Pokemon has many talents, no? The trainer, he has much to learn still, though." She gave a little smile, but Regan only scowled. He summoned the Slugma back to his side, and stalked off the stage.

"Much to learn," he muttered to himself. "She's too afraid to face me in a contest, and I'm the one who still has much to learn." He imitated her accent.

"Oui, you have much to learn." The voice made Regan jump slightly, and he turned to find Fantina standing behind him. He gave a slight sneer at seeing her, lifting his head slightly higher to look down his nose.

"My performance was stunning, and you know it. A judge shouldn't be biased. You've never liked me."

"Wrong, Regan. I saw much potential in you. You still have potential, but you must learn to care for the Pokemon. Vous devez les aimer." She bowed her head slightly, clasping her hands together in front.

Regan opened his mouth to make a response, but the voice on the loudspeaker spoke over him. "And in first place, Regan from Snowpoint City and his Slugma!"

He smirked. He knew he would win, and a superior look was given to Fantina. "You see? I have nothing left to learn." He strode out to collect his prize, Slugma in tow, never noticing the shake of the head Fantina gave as he left.
