the nickname was given by Variel, because he knew that Ariamon doesn't like his real name + it has the -mon part + Variel says Ariamon's eye color reminds him of cinnamon
maybe he really should officially change his name to Cinnamon

Their full name is "dothelhin the all-powerful" but they mostly go by "dot" because it's easier for their friends to remember (...and also it's a pun on ".EXE" bc this character is based on haunted game/lost episode creepypastas)
she used to go by "slasher" when she was a pit fighter :) she mostly dropped it now that she's retired though
Roxiflr will introduce himself as Roxi around people he doesn’t know so that they don’t get thrown off by the exotic name + Roxiflr is sometimes hard to spell. Zephiel calls him Roxi, as well, but for the reason that he knows him well. In return, Roxiflr calls Zephiel “Zeph“ or “Zephily” (Zephily is used when he’s trying to piss him off.).
Garrett is called Garfish because it’s a compound of his first and last name, and it’s funny.

when he served some time in prison for murder (until he got bribed out) another prisoner gave him the name “purpletrator”, being known as “the guy with purple hair that likes to beat people up”, and that nickname stuck with him even outside of prison nowadays
canonically a lot of other fellows call him by his middle name (thorwald) mostly because they think it sounds cool; in the toyhouse forums i actually call him thorwald quite a bit too since one of my friends on the site i talk to a whole lot also has one of her favorite characters of her own being named axel as well
Heartbreaker's actual name is Jebediah ( don't call em that though >:( ). Heartbreaker started out as a rawr XD online alias and slowly bled into real life
Alice's nickname is Lili. It might not make a lot of sense in english, but I swear it does in portuguese :'3

Zagreus' main nickname at the moment is Zag, but he was almost exclusively called Rere (also spelt Riri) when he was on the USS Seattle, specifically because he told people not to call him that. That nickname came from the middle syllable of his name when his fellow crew were figuring out ways to shorten his name/coming up with nicknames for him; it was supposed to be a joke, but the moment he said not to call him that, they just had to start calling him that.
