Admins being hypocrites? (CBC discussion)

Posted 25 days, 9 hours ago (Edited 23 days, 23 hours ago) by MIKAZUKI

Hii so idk how to start this but let’s say what’s up th admins?!

I believe it’s valid to say that doing cbcs (character based characte/character based custom) is a way to sneak into a copyright. Recently half of my cbcs Where nuked.

id have understood that on the first place but…

EDIT: I’m just pointing out that this user has cbcs NOT that they’re an admin.

I’m not dragging them into drama as stated we are concerned with the moderation not jaywalk

i‘d like to add many popular artists that are friends with admins or just simply popular have done enstars cbc and SOLD them. But of course th has its favorites ❤️

Last edit: i’ll leave this for discussion, won’t be looking at comments anymore as i feel overwhelmed i wasn’t expecting to ppl actually comment anhejhsj i apologize for adding jaywalk’s examples as it was just collectively in a conversation the first cbcs we thought about !! They have been removed since first mention and please don’t mention em anymore ;;

Agreed. I’ve had a few characters nuked recently and it’s a ridiculous rule

they should be stricter on this rule especially since there's threads in forum games promoting the creation of more :/

do wish the site wasn't just 1000 sans the skeletons and then maybe 1 or 2 attempts at original character skeletons. and that's coming from /me/.

or ya know.. Maybe let people have fun and stop trying to police what others make. It's people with this this attitude that irritate me the most.

It's only a legal issue if characters are carbon copies of the original character. By that I mean nearly identical. I have seen fairly different cool character designs with light inspiration! Like an example a character with a glowing blue eye but it wasnt sans. Rather making reference to him. Instead of being absolutely just sans as a cat. Even if you knew where the inspo came from.

Man ya know, people can't have fun I guess tho. lmao.

I get copyright issues to a point but if the character is a furry with only a slight inspo. It really shouldn't count. Alot of kin sonas arnt even 100 percent to their actual counterpart so who cares. Let people be. It aint hurting you any. Just block them if they ''annoy you so much''. lmao.

or maybe just be more consistent and strict with the rule on a site about OCs, not carbon copies... which most end up being, with no attempt to differentiate.

i think we should just let people have fun creating characters with inspiration from a media they like, if the mods can do it then so can they. No one uploads carbon copies, its always an original concept based/inspired off of a character Freedom-of-Speech-Rockwell-Norman-1943-3

Idk, I always saw it as like... if you can make "Deku as an anthro dog", why cant you make popular toyhouse user ABCDEFG's oc XYZ as an anthro dog? And like, I get there's a difference between a copyrighted character and a random person's OC, but people always make the case that "media charas are someones OCs anyway!" I just don't really get where the line is, is it as soon as you sign to a label or make a profit on your OC that it's a free for all?

But, you do you, this argument happens once a year on here, and never goes anywhere since

  1. the rule was voted on by the community
  2. you can edit the character to be less of a 1:1 & reupload
  3. there's other site options to store your characters without this rule
  4. you can legit just hide your ocs on auth-only if u dont want them removed
  5. change your kinsonas name. having deku as a dog named deku is gonna get them flagged...

I get there's no option to make everyone happy, but like I said, we do this dance yearly lol

eta: I def agree there should be some kinda clarification on the rule, if i can look at an oc and its obvious they're just Naruto as a coyote then I'd agree that should come under the rule, but someone just taking slight inspo shouldn't be hit with the lock. Having 1 mod makes it hard to weigh those options though

in my opinion the rule only serves to overwhelm the only god damn mod here. it shows when their rulings are extremely inconsistent and hypocritical. i think if it was removed, there would be way less stupid things to police and an ability to focus on the real problems of this site, and not just teenagers that like anime, lmao.

i admit even i am quite literally in approval of the rule itself. ive never broken it and i used to pretty frequently send in reports for actual instances of it - after being given extremely inconsistent answers, i simply wont do it anymore.

i once reported a 'hazbin hotel' redesign being sold for money, very clearly and explicitly noted as a redesign (the characters looked exactly alike), and the mod seemed to think there was nothing wrong with it! closed my ticket and everything. that combined with people whos ocs follow the rules being taken down for 'similarities,' makes me honestly very uncomfortable. everything is inspired by everything. nothing can be created without the basis of something else. thats how art works. where do you draw the line?

Since the moderator cannot even stay consistent with the rules they themselves have set, its begun to feel entirely pointless and a waste of time. rules dont work when they're conditional, and its impossible for a single person to make these decisions without accounting for user error and implicit bias.. it seems better to just remove it all together.

^^^^ ENTIRELY what LD50 said.

Like, I am going to have to agree. The rules inconsistent and having only one moderator certainly isn't helping TH as a whole.

I do whole heartily think policing others isn't the answer. Everything is inspired by something else and drawing the line is a very grey area. Legally, courts have issues with this when companies sue others over characters design and if bootleg pokemon can't be crossed out of existence. (In other words the pokemon company has failed to sue boottlegs in the past and yes they have tried to sue countless times.)

Then kin sonas by default should be honestly fine.

I agree that policing CBCs leads to ambiguous enforcing, sounds like what some users would want Toyhouse uploaded characters to be or look like out of their personal preferences, this as seen in examples on the thread has affected users who technically didn't break the established rules anyways. It's a ruling mostly based on "vibes" and I don't agree with that.

Reading the rule, it's very simple and non descriptive for what it's actually trying to moderate. It only tells you how to not get in trouble, but a character not being "literally" the canon character is fairly easy and doesn't have to be made in good faith to get out of the ruling because of a technicality or semantics (rule mentions deletion of characters made "in bad faith"). It's a weak ruling that tries to micromanage the content of the site to a fault IMO.

Haven't posted anything about this here because it seems like a majority vote thing, and I don't argue with communities deciding what order they want, but it's nice to see people who disagree with the CBC rule.
