TRIVIA

  • Edith specializes in weather related magic, specifically anything storm related.
  • Edith actually can't stand being alone. She loves solitude but she gets lonely very easily.
  • Edith was raised in an environment where she was taught not to trust anyone.
  • Edith is constantly under stress as a result of the pressures put on her to either kill or secure her sister (under the circumstance where she can be converted to Edith's side of the war).
  • Sometimes, Edith just wants to let loose and be set free. She never does, though. Duty always calls, singing its sick song. Isla actually helps her get out of her shell sometimes, but Edith's superiors see her interactions with the pirate as undignified and a poor influence on her. Not only that, but they act as though Isla will teach Edith "heathen magic," of some sort.

PERSONALITY

Edith is, as aforementioned, very quiet. In fact, for the majority of the time she spends around others, she stays almost completely silent unless spoken to. This isn't what is necessary of her, as she is a high-ranking official. Instead, she simply dislikes talking to those she lacks trust toward. She's not heartless, but she's cold. She keeps her emotions locked away from those around her. She's afraid to express herself, as she was taught that empathy can be a sign of weakness. She's truthfully relatively gentle, and many things fly over her head. She's ridiculously intelligent, but she isn't socially aware, and it results in people taking advantage of her from time to time.

If one can get her to open up, however, she's very fun and loving. She can be shy, easily embarrassed, and verbally clumsy. However, she can also be very sweet, gentle, and excitable. She's clingy, but awkward about it, and enjoys the company of those she truly trusts.

BACKSTORY

Growing Up

For the first part of her early life, Edith grew up with her sister, Eirene. The two of them were incredibly close. The majority of the things they did, the two did together. They even studied magic under the same mentor. Aside from Eirene and their mentor, however, Edith didn't get along well with others.

Their mentor knew that Edith and Eirene were both to have magical prowess, as their parents had in the past. It was also clear to their mentor that Eirene was born with a shine that previously belonged to a historically significant relative (undecided). Neither Edith nor Eirene were aware of this fact until later in life, but it was a significant marker on how the mentor treated the sisters. Of course, they were never cruel to Edith, but Edith always knew they favored Eirene.

As they aged, Edith and Eirene grew into a minor sibling rivalry, where the two competed for superior sibling. Neither was significantly better than the other, but it was an activity that grew tensions later in life. Edith grew to be more magically skilled than Eirene, however. Eirene was given more attention by their mentor as a result, which hurt Edith.

Over time, Edith began to keep to herself more. She avoided interactions that expressed her emotional state and pretended to be engaged and invested in Eirene's sibling games. She grew distant from friends, family, and guardians. Eirene had realized something was amiss, but she never spoke up to Edith, and as a result never fully understood the extent of Edith's pain.

The two weren't entirely distanced by this, however. Edith still enjoyed Eirene's company and tried her best to help Eirene whenever possible. In fact, she desired most to protect her sister and didn't want her sister to worry. She was the stronger one, so she had to be strong in all ways, even if it meant keeping grievances hidden.

Eventually, Edith encountered a group of individuals whom she believed finally understood her. One of such individuals recognized and supported her magical prowess, something she was starved of as a child while training under the family mentor. This new woman offered to support her magical abilities and train her to utilize them. For awhile, Edith declined the offer. She decided that she wanted to be there for her sister, Eirene, above all else.

Eventually, however, Edith realized that Eirene no longer needed her guidance or help. What she couldn't do in magic, she made up for in charisma. She managed to make friends, and even had an outside life away from home. Meanwhile, Edith had no one. The only people who respected her were the people who offered to help train her. Edith decided that she wasn't needed anymore, and with the peer pressure of those who finally accepted her, eventually left (undecided how it happens, but Edith makes a mistake that hurts Eirene and she eventually decides to leave. Edith should also have developed a crush on one of the people who is part of this organization of mages, though that segment may not be significant apart from her making the decision, and maybe a bit into adulthood until she meets Isla).

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The sisters' mentor told them stories of great mages, their historically significant ancestor being one of them. They mentioned stories of ancient artifacts owned and preserved by said ancestor through the ages, and that it was lost long ago, with his death. Over time, with the knowledge of the ancestor's name, Edith was able to uncover that his emblem, or his shine, matched her sister's. ***Mentor was trained by their parents?

After She Left

After Edith left, she was welcomed very warmly into the group. They trained her as promised, and she grew into a powerful mage. She trained alongside [Redacted], among others around her age, and came out with the top grades. She was raised to believe their philosophy, and was taught that all else was heathen propaganda and dark magic; a double sided blade. She finally felt appreciated, and even worked her way into becoming a well-revered authority figure.

Over time, she had made her way up in authority to become a significant figure in regards to a cause--one large enough to fuel a war;and so it was. She was taught that this was the way to do things, though she never experienced the warzone firsthand.

Edith and Eirene now stand on opposing sides of the same war, each unbeknownst to the other. Each sister has arisen in ranks to be a high-commanding leader in the eyes of the soldiers and those who support them. When they see one another again, Edith and Eirene are shocked.

Edith and Eirene then spent time trying to recruit one another to each other's side of the war, believing that the other still had hope of joining each respective side. Eirene believed Edith was misled and once she understood the principles, she would join her side. Meanwhile, Edith believed Eirene was taught incorrectly by their mentor and, if she had an open mind, would learn Edith's teachings and would understand why Edith chose this side of the war.

All I know is her backstory is going to be sad

Edith is the sister to bone lesbian. She and bone lesbian got along very well when they were younger, but drifted apart afterwards due to a mistake on Edith's part. Edith and her sister don't feel particularly negative emotions toward one another, but they don't trust one another and lost contact. Once they find one another again, they are significant figures on opposing sides of the same war.

These two are both witches who shared a mentor as children. Bone lesbian received her staff from the aforementioned mentor, while Edith gained hers in another way (undecided, probably made it with her new mentor). Both obtained their staves after the two drifted apart. Edith began training under a separate mentor after the two split apart, and ends up joining their side of the war. Meanwhile, bone lesbian's mentor dies (she is killed by those who belong to Edith's side of the war) and bone lesbian inherits her staff that way.

Edith's new mentor is on the side of the war that she joins. Her new mentor is also alive, and has also manipulated her into believing that what she is doing is what's best.

Both sisters attempt to bring one another to their sides of the war, but they eventually give up when Edith orchestrates a battle that kills one of bone lesbian's colleagues.
After it is clear Edith's sister doesn't wish to join Edith's side, Edith's mentor attempts to convince Edith to kill her. Prior to this, however, Edith's mentor was hoping to use bone lesbian to gain an advantage in the war.

After the death of bone lesbian's colleague, bone lesbian grows more distant and cold toward Edith, having decided that Edith can no longer be redeemed, and that it is clear Edith doesn't want to join her side of the war. However, over time, Edith begins to recognize that she is being manipulated by those in power over her side of the war.

Note that Edith's mentor took her in after recognizing her raw power, and realized that she would be an asset to her cause. She wished to do the same for Edith's sister. Perhaps long ago she once attempted to kidnap bone lesbian, but bone lesbian's mentor fended her off?
