BACKSTORY

AT THE BEGINNING

Royal grew up in a family of musical-enthusiasts. He was raised to enjoy music and was even given a custom-made guitar as a gift from his mother for his 10th birthday. His whole life, he took guitar lessons to develop his own music. For the majority of the time after he got his guitar, he would show Nylon what he had learned, hoping Nylon found it cool. However, Nylon passing away changed things.

HOW ROYAL DEALT WITH NYLON'S DEATH

Put simply, he didn't. Royal was unable to cope properly with Nylon's death. After a while, he was diagnosed with clinical depression. He was also grieving for a very long time. He started to feel like giving up on the world, considering everything went dull for him. His family was worried sick.

STRANGE ARTICLE

He had planned to give up until he found a peculiar "conspiracy theory" article. It described that in recent news, a man was confirmed murdered. However, some time later, the very same man was found alive by the investigators working on his case. He had no records of an identical twin, and no one could explain this incident. However, the investigators claimed he was never really dead and the body was another man. The article went into further detail, theorizing that this was a cover-up for the clear assassination of the man, which went along with the idea that one--or both--of the investigators was a friend of the murdered individual. It then drove everything to tie back to the local church, which was roped along with several other articles by this theorist that implied the church being run by a demon--or possibly the devil himself. It claimed that this event was some form of "demonic ressurection."

ROYAL'S INTENTIONS

Royal decided that he would trust in this article, regardless of how rediculous it was--he was DESPERATE. He wanted his best friend back more than anything, and if some random investigator got their friend back, he was sure he could convince the church to resurrect Nylon. However, things weren't that simple. He had to investigate the church himself and gather intel, as well as find a way to get there without asking his parents.

Eventually, his family got extremely worried for him. They tried to ask him about what was going on, and became very persistent about it. It got to the point of some arguments between him and his mother. They were afraid he was introduced to one of the nearby gangs--or worse. When they eventually found out about his research, they assumed he was pulled into a cult and set him up with professionals. Soon enough, he had to come clean--or, he could try to lie his way out. He told his family he was interested in the local church and the thought of such a thing happening in those articles facinated him. He wanted to get ideas to write a song or a story about the concept of such a thing, but he needed to research it. To his content, his family believed him--and now he had an excuse for them to take him to the church.

AT THE CHURCH

Finally, Royal was able to get to the church. His mother drove him there and walked around with him. Unfortunately, it really seemed like just a normal old church with a homeless shelter attached. However, that wasn't enough to stop Royal. He decided to look around and talk to the people who lived at the church. His mother stepped off to talk with the owners while he befriended the kalons his age. The family was huge. Royal was shocked by the size. He was able to worm a few half-answers about the resurrection out of some of the kalons, claiming that yes they knew Bleu, the investigator, and the one called Basil, who was the supposed resurrected kalon. One of the siblings, Ashe, was very friendly and enthusiastic about talking to Royal. She explained to him that her family is made up of really good people, even if some of them are "misled." She went on to express that this was how her parents faced the issue of returning Basil to Bleu. She did not elaborate on what this meant.

Over time, Royal came to appreciate this family, and felt like nothing about them was particularly demonic, despite what the articles claimed. He also came to evaluate that something definitely happened with the church, Bleu, and Basil, which he assumed the article may have been correct about. So, flatly, he asked about resurrection. Was it possible? Could he get his friend resurrected?

Surprisingly enough, eventually they confirmed his suspicions and expressed that Royal would have to talk to their father, Loki, about resurrection. Ashe told him she'd throw in the good word to her dad, but last time it did kill him. Royal thought they seemed to have a very skewed definition of death, considering Loki was standing across the way, talking to Maxine. Regardless, Royal was very polite when Loki came over to talk to him. It took a lot to bring Nylon back, but he was alive--living, breathing, standing right there. It brought Royal to tears. Immediately, Royal hugged his best friend.

HE'S ALIVE!

Royal held his friend tight, despite not having seen him for so long. How was this possible? He thanked Loki, Ashe, and the entire family for their efforts in bringing back Nylon. However, Nylon appeared a little dazed after resurrection, and didn't say much. Really, he just stared off into space, stayed quiet, and did practically nothing. Loki expressed to Royal that the boy was shocked because he didn't expect to be brought back to life, and he wasn't prepared for it. He may take a while to return to his former self.

This, Royal had accepted. His friend was back! Now, they could solve the problem before it happens again--Nylon could get the attention he needed, along with treatment, and Royal would be able to hang out with his best friend again. After bringing Nylon home, Nylon finally started to exhibit some emotion. He hugged Royal and sobbed for a long time, and then stayed the night at Royal's house. Everything eventually worked out in the end.

Quick explanation-
Royal falls into a depressive episode, into an endless pool of the tears he's shed. Regardless, he knows he must get up. Mustering the courage to smile even in these hardships, he takes a step toward the light, believing in himself that he can get through anything.

Why is this Important to Royal?
[list]Despite his naturally clever, conceited, and mischievous nature, Royal has been diagnosed with depression. It began with the death of a close friend when he was 12 years old. "Look Away" by The Dear Hunter is an important song to him because its pessimistic beginning followed by its progressively optimistic nature helped him get through his hard times. The lyrics spoke to him in a way no other songs could, especially the part of the song where it states, "Leave the pain behind, casting fear to the side, for just a moment so things can allign. And if I fall, sometimes that's just fine, as long as I get up and things are alright." These lyrics have inspired him to be more confident in himself--to be resilient--and though they haven't cured his depression, listening to them helps him cope with his feelings.

He sits down to listen to music. His favorite song--"Look Away" by The Dear Hunter--plays. He feels at home. He feels safe. He remembers his friend, who puts his arm around his shoulder and talks to him casually, just like any other day. Royal can get back up. His friend is still here--living in his memories. This song always reminds him of his friend. It always helps him cope.

He cries deeply. A sadness washes over him. His lungs tighten and his stomach churns. His tears shed into an endless ocean of doubt. Then, he puts in his earplugs. The song. That same, familiar song. "Look Away" by The Dear Hunter. It plays. He feels his emotions flood through. He's in his happy place, alone with his music. Happiness blocks out the doubt, the dread, the pain, and shines a light. His thoughts develop into serenity. Everything's quiet, out in space. This song brings out his dear, beloved happy place. He is now calm.
