From video game mascot, to the beloved icon of Summer Wonder Camp, to a marketable figure of smalltown culture, Baxter the Beaver was brought from his game and into the big picture by entreprenuers in an attempt to compete with Smokey the Bear in the mid 70's. Instead of forest fires, his theme focused on being safe when exploring the woods, and he advised kids about the proper ways to prepare for hikes, to never go out alone and to always bring first aid.

After the fall of Summer Wonder Camp due alleged bankruptcy, the camp was closed down indefinitely. When the camp rebranded in 1980 under a new name, "Hollowlog Camp", Baxter was officially retired as a mascot and all Baxter paraphernalia was tossed into storage or destroyed.
