Kai is a confident person and usually speaks his mind. He may seem chill and carefree but looks can be deceiving, he in fact quite impulsive and calculating. He is protective of his family and friends, sometimes coming off as stern especially with his younger sister even though he means well.
Because of his impulsiveness he tends to be a bit impatient and short-tempered. He mostly becomes frustrated when he loses in certain situations or when things don't go as intended. Kai occasionally shows signs of jealousy and competitiveness whenever his brother is mentioned since being compared to others wounds his pride.

03 — Background
Kai is the middle child and son of demon hunters, Ryusuke and Kyoko. He is usually quite disciplined and level-headed but occasionally his impatience can get the best of him. He specialises in combat and apprehending demons while his younger sister is more skilled in spiritual arts and magic. He is still learning about what it takes to lead especially if one day he is required to take his father's place in the "family business" in the case that his older brother, Tatsuya, doesn't.
Although sometimes he and Rei are seen sassing each other he is quite protective of her as well as his friends and loved ones. He is aware he is not that clever in academics but he is quick when it comes to survival and protecting others.
Currently, Kai is working towards becoming an officer while maintain his roles as a demon hunter and exorcist on the side.

Kai is spelled with the kanji for "commandment" (戒 kai).

Kamiya contains the kanji for "god" (神 kami) and "valley" (谷 ya). The combined meaning is "divine valley" or "Valley of God".

He was born in Japan.

His hair is dark blue-violet and waist-length but is usually tied back.

Both his eyes have sectoral heterochromia which is a purple-pink-yellow hue that some would describe has being the colours of a sunset. The sunset eyes are a supernatural trait possessed by the Kamiya family that can be inherited by descendants at any point even if no relatives possess it for centuries.

He has a piercing on his left lobe and usually wears blessed jewellery to ward evil spirits.

He's athletic and acrobatic. He possess skills in Martial Arts, Swordsmanship, Marksmanship, Mediumship, Exorcism, Lightning and Dark Magic. However his exorcism and magic isn't as powerful as his siblings.

Kai first met Jennifer and her twin brother Robert at the cafe Eden worked at however he didn't have the time to speak to either at first. Later, during a rainy day Kai bumped into Jen who recognised him as Eden's friend. Within his arms he held a black kitten which he handed to Jen after she offered to care and give shelter to the kitten.

Younger sister
Kai might find Rei annoying at times but he still cares about her and only wants what's best for her. He's quite protective of her and would fight anyone who hurts her. He had suspected that Rei had a crush on Alex for years and didn't quite approve of them dating in high school, thinking she was "too young" and "precious" to be dating someone with a rebellious attitude. He worried Alex would only end up hurting her but he later realised the two really loved each other and accepted their relationship. However, this didn't stop Kai from wanting to continue to protect Rei since she'll always he his precious little sister.
Older brother
Kai and Tatsuya aren't particularly close but they usually get along most of the time. He considers his older brother a rival when it comes to fighting skills since his brother was always better than him whether it be physical combat or magic. Kai is too stubborn to accept defeat so he occasionally finds himself envious of his brother's strength and abilities.
Childhood friend
Kai met Eden in Japan during the childhood. Eden was a transfer student from Italy and didn't have many friends at the time. Kai and Eden eventually became friends before Kai had to move back overseas a few months later. After a while Eden also ended up moving overseas and surprisingly ended up in the same area and reuniting with Kai. Although they didn't go to the same schools they remained close. Kai often likes to tease Eden and has given him the nickname "Pinky". After some time, Kai begins to sense Eden's half-angelic presence but since he hasn't mentioned this before Kai kept this secret, assuming his parents would reveal the truth about his heritage one day.
Childhood friend
Kai met Felix through Eden who was a fellow classmate at Eden's school. Initially, Kai occasionally picked on Felix to push him out of his shell. One day he lost to Felix after a challenge to a fight, he questioned how a human with no special powers could beat him and kept challenging him to find out. Eventually he'd learn that Felix beat him through sheer determination and perserverance, something Kai realised he lacked due to his impatient personality. He believes Felix is a very smart and capable person with a good heart who'd make a great police officer and detective someday.

Kai has known Alex since childhood since he was a family friend. He was never close to him like Rei was had suspected that his sister had feelings for Alex. He was sometimes passive aggressive towards Alex since he doubted that he was right for Rei and disapproved of her dating in high school especially when he noticed Alex had been smoking, he thought Alex would be a bad influence on Rei. After some time, he learned to accept their relationship when he realised how much Alex loved Rei.
Family friend
Kai isn't fond of Akira. He thinks he's a "flashy, rich douchebag who just likes to showoff his money and power".
