Hitori is obsessed with success. He will do anything to stay on top, given that he's already devoted most of his life to his work and has gotten used to being on top. He is harsh to those under him because of his high standards. He's strict and unforgiving and does not hold back on punishments where he sees them fit. 

He values honor and respect, when its shown toward himself, but he often lacks those traits himself. However, he is good at putting on professional airs and conducting business and making sure things get done. 

When Hitori was younger, he married a beautiful Japanese woman, and had his first children with her. After time wore on, he became more and more focused on his work. A mistress was easier to handle than a wife and he was tempted away, so they divorced. He met a German show girl who was travelling and unexpectedly had a few kids with her as well. Although they never married, he fell for her more than he intended, but still he resented her and the children. He favored his children from his original marriage, and neglected his sons with his mistress, although he still took care of them financially and allowed them his last name. His 6th son, Rokuro, was among his bastard sons, and always treated him as a disappointment, not only for being a bastard, but for possessing foreign blood, having a defect in his leg, and having a generally obstinant personality.

The Silver Dragon Group reflects Hitori's ideals, primarily, following his favor for tradition. One point that makes him controversial in this is that he believes that all of his men should be full blooded Japanese since he himself doesn't take to kindly to foreigners (his half-Japanese sons included).  However, despite his need for tradition, he's known even better for his ruthlessness.

Since his group has been around for so long, the police have grown accustomed to their name. They have left their mark on the city. And therefore, Hitori believes that the Silver Dragon group is above the police. He refuses to cooperate with them on any level because he believes they are useless.
