  •  Name   Shirley-May Sunshine
  •  Age   30
  •  Height   6'10
  •  Occupation   Detective/Trainer
  •  Sexuality   Pansexual
  •  Personality

A country bumpkin in every sense of the word, Shirley is the ray of sunshine every party didn’t know they needed. She does all she can to lift every possible mood, usually with great success! Something’s always been charming about the way she fumbles around.

Shirley makes it her personal mission to embody Cottat hospitality, and tends to assume the best in anyone she comes across and treat them like one of her own, no matter how long she’s known them. It’s never been a habit that’s bitten her before, and can easily be labeled as naive. Some may call her sheltered, others, simply lucky. Well, she’s been bitten once, let’s hope it doesn’t happen again...

Nonetheless, this hospitality extends especially so to Pokemon. Being raised around them all her life, she has a special attachment to each and every pokemon she’s raised, and even ones she hasn’t! She’s known for being quite the hassle if you buy a pokemon from her ranch, as she’ll keep contact with the new owners for… Pretty much the rest of their lives, and making sure to visit, say hi, and bring gifts when she can. She’s never seen this as a bad thing, simply being polite and looking out for both the customer and the pokemon. She loves her work more than anything, maybe that’s why she’s taken her family’s wish for a career shift so personally...
  •  Appearance
Shirley-May is a Giant Freak Of Nature as she stands at a whopping 6'10. Working on a ranch her whole life, she's got a considerable amount of muscle, mainly on her arms and legs, those things may as well be made of steel. She's got a soft middle as well as some noticeable love handles, as she's no stranger to giving and receiving Cottat hospitality when it comes to food.
  • She also has giant bahonga-hoos because I Am God. Because of her humongous honkers, no shirt ever fits. Even her regular shirt has the buttons clinging on for dear life. To compensate, she wears black compression shorts underneath her brown suspender shorts and a top made from the same spats-like material. However, all this clothing paired with working outside all day has led to some... Interesting tan-lines. A farmer's tan, if you will.
  • She's got long blonde hair that reaches about down to her lower back if she lets it out of that braid. She used to have an orange headband in her hair, neatly tied in a ribbon, but she has since left that with The Armaldo King in the Cottat Town caves. However, an accessory she'll likely never abandon is the piece of wheat she keeps in her mouth. Better to chew on a piece of plant than anything else!

  •  Backstory

Shirley is the eldest of 3 sisters running the Sunshine Ranch in Cottat town. A wonderful family coming from Carrie Sunshine, her mother and Billy Sunshine, her father. And of course her sisters! Bailey-May, the middle child, and Anna-may, the youngest! As the eldest sister, Shirley was always expected to inherit the business from her parents, should they pass. Not that she minded one bit, she’s adored working with pokemon ever since she was young! Originally, the three sisters were expected to inherit the ranch alongside Shirley, but it isn’t looking that way now. Her sisters have other aspirations, after all.

Having no qualms with this, Shirley continued to work hard on behalf of the ranch into the ripe age of 30. If it’d been up to her, it would have stayed that way until the ripe age of 70. Instead there was an… Incident that’s put business on a permanent hold.

About a few months ago, the Sunshine Ranch received a large order for pokemon bred for battle, which is nothing new. After having ample time to breed the pokemon, they were delivered by Billy to Sitrine City to a group that seemed… Slightly shady, but hey, they’re paying customers! The city isn’t his element, who is he to judge?
A few weeks later, Shirley called to ask how the pokemon were doing and if the client was satisfied, as per usual. Their mannerisms seemed… Strange, such as asking for a password she didn’t know. They weren’t even going to let her in until another member of the group recognized her as the seller. Nonetheless, she was let in. After a bit of chatting, the group asked Shirley if she’d like to “see the products in action”. The phrasing of that rubbed her the wrong way a little, but she ultimately felt it rude to turn the offer down.

Shirley was then led to a fighting ring, nothing… Too suspicious. These pokemon were bred for battle after all. But what she found strange was that she didn’t see any trainers on or even near the field as the announcer declared the battle would begin in mere seconds. As soon as she was about to turn and ask her host about that, she got her horrific answer.
A gate opened, releasing a malnourished Charmander on one side and an injured Monferno on the other. She looked on in horror as they immediately tore each other apart like beasts, fighting for their lives. The Charmander eventually consumed its opponent as the food it desperately needed while the crowd cheered on… She could barely hold back vomiting as she simply sat there, wracked with fear. She wanted desperately to move, save them, but it was over so quickly, she realized it simply didn’t matter how fast she ran, it would have been too late.

As Shirley stumbled to the exit after the battle, she was joined by a single member who asked her where she was going. She simply remarked that she would “Expose them for all their cruelty, no matter the cost”. It was then that the member told them that this underground ring has rebranded so many times, there was no possible way they’d be caught. Try as she might, by the time she can wander to the police station, this will all be under a different name. And sure enough, they were right. As soon as Shirley reported the ring and its headquarters, the entire building was… empty.

After she brought the awful news to her parents, they vowed to never sell a pokemon again, and shut down their business completely. They could rebrand as something else, didn’t matter. What matters was that they could never make the same mistake again. There are evil, evil people in this world, and nobody knows where they are hiding. Shirley didn’t agree, the ranch was their livelihood! Surely the answer lies in something less drastic, background checks, having more than one of them check on clients? But her parents wouldn’t budge. So long as that ring existed and couldn’t be tracked, there was a risk they were unwilling to take. And thus, Shirley has set out to prove them wrong. If nobody would bust this cruel, cruel fighting ring, then she would. And she’d do it proving that baseless pessimism and skepticism gets you nowhere. And so, aboard the train to Professor Tannenbaum’s laboratory, she can only hope that she’s a better chance at her goal than her family says she does.
After the losses of 3 pokemon in her party, Shirley has decided she will no longer continue with the Gym challenge. She doesn't need any fancy badges to complete her personal mission, after all! She has no problem donning a Cheerleader outfit and rooting for her new friend's success!

  •  Trivia
    • ● Shirley has a habit of taking what people say very literally if it’s not a country saying she’s familiar with.
    • ● That said, she’s very familiar with odd sayings that make no sense to others. Ex. (You’re faster than a Mothim in a mitten! He’s just like a Tauros’ rear in fly time...)
    • ● Shirley is quite touchy when she speaks, lightly pushing people when she’s proving a point.
    • ● Shirley’s Birthday is quite soon in-game! She’s trying to think more on the side of celebration rather than the fact she will be 31.
    • ● Shirley is overwhelmed by Red-Light Districts for more than one reason.
    • ● Shirley wakes up earlier than anyone else in the party.
