Ooooh, I really like that he tends to be underestimated because of his relative unfamiliarity with human speech, as well as being straightforward with his wants. I also don't believe I've ever seen a touch Cloud Cuckoolander before, so I find that really cool too!!
Hachiro (and Shen) are my favorite monster boys tbh!! I'm thrilled they've caught your heart, too. <3 Since vampires vs. werewolves is such a popular trope, I thought it'd be interesting to take a couple liberties with those species-- and portray them as allies. Superficially, Shen and Hachiro would fit the "stoic vampire" and "wild werewolf" archetypes... but as you can probably tell, Hanako finds out that Shen has a bit of a playful, teasing streak, while Hachiro is far more mature (and is actually rather sad inside) than his puppy-like mannerisms would have you believe. :3c
I thought about that as I was reading Shen's, the vampire vs. werewolf trope! I was really surprised how much sense their species' alliance would make!
I also find that they're kind of an offset version of the "stoic vampire/wild werewolf" archetypes, cause stoic vampires tend to be aloof, whereas Shen's just kinda...being Shen, just doing his own thing, and I've never seen a werewolf as upbeat as Hachiro. Reckless, maybe, but not upbeat. I like that about them!
