Brookes likes to think he's level-headed, but he's just a hard-headed, hot-headed smuggler who doesn't have any people skills. He has high-standards for everyone, but himself. Brookes doesn't mean to be hateful, he just doesn't like wasting his time. But if you get to know him, you might find that he has a few soft spots....just a few though.

Brookes, as a general rule, hates people. He's a misanthrope to the very core. In fact, Brookes seems to hate most things and prefers to work by himself and keep to himself. He has a list of things that tick him off and make his life unbearable, and he'll often refuse to take jobs that include associating with the following (when he can afford to): Women, Children, Small Animals, Large Animals, Bugs, Celebrities, Produce, Broken Androids or robots, Politics, Spending Money. 

Brookes just started off as a regular ship pilot, carrying cargo between planets, but he found himself in a unique circumstance which led him to being offered much more money than he ever imagined making as a pilot. Now he's a smuggler. He finds the trading restrictions between planets to be nonsense and just another way for the government to force their control over their potential for growth. Brookes may be a criminal, but he doesn't see himself as one. He doesn't think his work is morally questionable, but perhaps some of his actions are. Despite not liking most people, Brookes tends to take better care of others than he did himself. He feels a sense of duty to give people a fighting chance, as long as he doesn't have to get too close. When it comes to hinself, he smokes too much, drinks too much, and puts his life in danger daily.

His lazy old aunt who raised him died when he was still young, and Brookes was put into foster care. He wanted to get out of there as fast as he could. They were broke and didn't provide for him well or treat him well. He wanted to go to school to become a piloy, but even after trying to get work, he couldn't afford it. He found the way the fastest way to make money, conning. After a bit of petty thieving, he bought himself a ship, thinking he didn't need school anymore after he got himself this far in life. He taught himself to fly. It wasn't until later that he thought of the idea to run his own smuggling operation. But being his own boss and doing things his way suited his lifestyle. was able to work up his own smuggling ring. But doing what he wanted just to get a buck had a price and got him a bounty on his head. So he needed to get himself some backup as support and that's how he got in with working with Salmon.

Due to the way he's lived his life up til now, he's found himself in a particularly hard spot after starting to do business through The Red Rose Oasis Casino. It's a loud, obnoxious place full of celebrities, waiters & waitresses in sexy close trying to schmooze with customers, and people who only care about money. And yet, he keeps finding himself drawn there for work, and there is one particular waitress there who just won't leave him alone. He did genuinely not like Andi when he first met her, but she got stuck in his head, the more and more he saw of her, the more he was unable to forget her...and then he did not want to let go. She's got some real fire in her that he admires, and her unwillingness to give up on him is comforting as well as annoying.

Trivia:

- Brookes sexuality is currently undisclosed because he so rarely wants to deal with people that his orientation is of little concern, but one of the things that bothers him about women is that they often try to use their sexual appeal in order to gain favors from him.

- Grunts a lot instead of speaking when he sees words being a waste if time, but when he does talk, he'll chew you out and go on and on likely.

- Has very strong opinions and wasn't raised to take shit from anybody
