Design Notes (True Form)

• His eyes should never be visible unless he is in battle, where he may sometimes flash his evil eye ("Eye of the Gorgon") to imprison opponents in their own darkness.
• Below the waist, his body is long and serpentine, with four short legs. He can slither along the ground like a snake, tucking his legs close against his body as he moves, or fly through the air like a typical East-Asian dragon.
• He has a set of large fangs (where the canines usually are) on the upper jaw, and a smaller set on the lower jaw. The top fangs can be included or excluded if his mouth is closed.
• His hair on his head is straight, blonde, and falls between the middle of his back and his waist. The hair on the end of his tail is more curly.
• Wears dark lipstick on his mouth.

Trivia

• The legends about him make him known for his invaluable knowledge on countless subjects. What most don't know however is that he mostly enjoys acting like a smug, chaos-causing charlatan, if only for the joy of messing with people. He's perfectly capable of being serious when the situation demands, however.
• The hydra heads at his waist in his true form are not really sentient, and mostly serve as echos of his own consciousness. He can speak through them, though.
• His true form is massive, comparable to that of VenomMyotismon. Standing on his legs, he is even taller than Oti in his Mega form.
• Doesn't need to use his wings to fly, as he can levitate, they're mostly for show.

Origin

The dark lands had always been inhospitable, damned by the Holy Digimon as a prison meant to house and punish those deemed "wicked" in the angels' eyes. In the farthest depths Balthazar had guarded a castle of knowledge, containing the deepest and darkest secrets of the Digital World, and of the angels who supposedly kept the order. Those who sought his counsel were most often swallowed by their own Sins: Greed, Envy, or other such vices that dragged them into a kind of blackness even he could not rescue them from. Those who passed his tests might have been gifted whatever information their heart desired... for a price.

Some sought to destroy him, and all have failed. His dark powers and ability to regenerate himself make him virtually un-killable, and he's bested countless in duals before. Though he was mostly content to keep to himself behind his old castle walls, over the millenia he earned the reputation of being a terrible, un-touchable entity. From time to time, he would emerge to cast greater spells over his territory, maintaining it, obscuring it, setting traps and trials and the oldest magic into every nook and cranny.

He's had more than one dispute with the armies and higher orders of Holy Digimon, driving them from the lands they'd forsaken, or keeping away his libraries of knowledge from them out of spite. He remains forever bitter that parts of his memory were robbed from him by the highest ranking angels--things he's been for centuries upon centuries trying to rediscover, to no avail.

But he knew something was wrong after parts of his domain began warping beyond recognition--not to darker states or by any magic he knew, but seemingly rotting to a point of non-existence. At first, he thought it was the Holy Digimons' doing, but inspecting it closer, and longer as it spread, he suspects that isn't actually the case.

What was apparent was that even his old, powerful magic could not undo what was done, and bit by bit, even his castle began to erode away into the nothingness, along with all of its secrets, and the spells locked within. Nothing he did, no knowledge he possessed, could stop it, and he was forced to watch all he'd built and all he'd protected disappear into ruin.

Past

After that, he was lost too, wandering from place to place and wondering if he should ever again attempt to reclaim his home, or the pieces of memory stolen long ago. Chasing chapters in his life became meaningless to him as he desperately searched for the answers, eventually leaving the dark lands and becoming a bounty-hunter, if only to cherish the thrill of the hunt, for a little while.

After that, he was lost too, wandering from place to place and wondering if he should ever again attempt to reclaim his home, or the pieces of memory stolen long ago. Chasing chapters in his life became meaningless to him as he desperately searched for the answers, eventually leaving the dark lands and becoming a bounty-hunter, if only to cherish the thrill of the hunt, for a little while.

The scholar in him was curious. As he travelled, he searched for clues to the mystery and to help heal the heavy loss he carried with him, having watched his castle be eaten away by something he did not understand, with no name and no clear point of origin. Frustrated, angry, and driven by something more than his sadness, he went farther, and farther, to places he'd never before seen with his own eyes.

Repeatedly, he attempted to summon the angels to question them, but they would not speak to a demon. Those he managed tracked down and interrogated had no knowledge to give, and it was begrudgingly that he let them go. Sometimes, he'd cross plains of nothingness, where the infection had already torn the world apart, and sometimes, he saw the suffering and the devastation it wrought upon those who fled from it, just trying to survive.

Eventually, he happened upon Mt. Specter.

Present

Initially, he was drawn to the area after sensing a very strong, pure dark energy emanating from the mountain. Though he wished to seek out the Digimon who produced it, he stumbled upon Oti before ever reaching it, and took an immediate liking to the other vampire. He became more preoccupied with courting Oti at that point, though a misunderstanding about the matter led to Ara attacking him in an attempt to defend her brother from his advances. After the misunderstanding was cleared up, Ara still isn't really one to put up with his sometimes saucy disposition or his tricky shenanigans, though, and has made it clear to him that if he steps out of line, though she knows she won't be able to kill him, she'll put him in a world of pain for it. (He finds the threat ridiculous but delightful, because it makes it apparent that she cares about Oti so much). Now that their a couple, he's been trying to convince Oti that they should build a castle together near the mountain, to recreate what he can of all the knowledge stored in his own home, and perhaps begin their own, new collections.

Through Oti, he was eventually introduced to Lady, who turned out to be the source of the dark energy he noticed before. After learning about the research she and the others had been doing on the Digital and human worlds, and about the strange, corrosive infection they'd witnessed, he offered his aid and power to them, convinced his own experiences were somehow linked to it.

Still unable to recover the memories that had been swiped from him, he hopes that he might be able to recall, or rediscover, the details. When he isn't hanging around Oti or the base, he's usually out trying to track more Holy Digimon.

Given the scale of his power and history, it's taken him a while to completely earn the others' trust, though he doesn't mind that much, and understands their caution on the matter. He wishes he still remembered the secrets about how the dark lands came to be, or all those secrets he'd locked away in his castle for safe-keeping. He's at least happy to have found some purpose to his life again, in his new boyfriend and in putting his might and scholarly abilities to some good use.

He just hopes it isn't too late.
