Monet's parents are also aware she's a changeling btw and they're ok with it?? The king found out tho and well it was either lose ur job or get rid of the child somehow. So they kinda… ig "tricked" the king into thinking they killed their daughter and let her reside with her grandparents in a far away village until she's grown and not as recognisable. Ofc they keep the child, they tried to cope with the fact I suppose that's what usually happens, her parents were distraught but eventually they came to. Monet lived with her grandparents in the village that had burnt down. Living there bc well she was told her parents were already so busy all the time and they thought it would be better if she'd be raised there in a modest setting, getting regular schooling. She understood this and loved it in fact, considering the royals kinda snobby from what she'd overhear her parents speak about. Her grandparents knew of her predicament and were told that things may get a bitttt yikes? Unknowing of the magic changelings have, it's just always be prepared babey. Clearly they saw the distraught of the parents over losing their actual child so idk they understood. They came to love monet though, it's like nothing had even changed/ happened like yes this is our granddaughter!! When Monet is 13 she started being around the kingdom more by order of her parents n stuff, (the changeling ness is a bit more apparent when they're younger!) under the guise that she's some other distant relative. It was a p good cover since she kinda developed not having to be around them sm she just did her own thing. Her parents wanted the best for her, har har nepotism moment when it comes to her getting small odd jobs around the castle. Eventually she meets brioche during cleaning abd reordering some books and mf annoys the heck out of him! Not knowing he's some v important next in line advisor. Brioche thinks she's weird and is not fond of her vibe (man's has a v negative view on the fae, scary tricksters naurrr. Also to note brioche is very against anything the king is against like man's is straight up following the ideals of this odd dictator dude) so he tries to avoid her as much as possible but can't rly so yeah they, they.
Eventually her parents push her to enroll in fencing n combat classes n whatnot! She is not fond of this on the real. They think that her education would go to waste if she just did instrument stuff and played with animals all day… like combat isn't anything different huh.

They found it better if monet was trained in combat as things just suddenly got a tiny bit more idk dangerous like it was so peaceful for a bit then odd anomalies started showing up outta nowhere! They didn't have a chance with our babey girl.
She gets away with this for a while and then one day her parents are like,, we found a very cool position for you! You get to play your instruments and tend to animals and other things! She's like omg yippee but it turns out the combat thing is a necessity, this is also the party she ends up joining later down the line. They all have some sort of combat training. Monet's job in particular here was to scout areas (big fan of just traveling esp if it includes having to use the weird stable creatures) and just finding new things to update the royal encyclopedia


Monet isn't aware that she's a changeling, hell she isn't aware that she can do anything with magic actually. Her skin is p wacky tho like what she pink for! Turns out she can do magical stuff though but it's fairly limited, having to rely on potions and whatnot to sorta enhance it? Her body is pretty weàk so she can't reach her full potential. A passive thing she does is the speaking to animals thing. She's only able to do this when she's v calm though, this bites her in the ass many times in the story. Using any type of magic, with the potion physically and mentally exhausts her and causes minor damage to where the magic is emitted from.

She goes through an arc where she finds out that she is in fact a changeling, it's pretty troubling for her, this is the arc where she's sent off on her own by the king (a suicide mission bc the king eventually finds out that her parents did indeed keep their child! And that is not a distant relative nonono. The king wanted her dead, she knew too much) demon queen lady actually tells her about it and she spends the rest of the trip back just thinking and discussing it with her. Fran knows, hell they knew even. Brioche and kwang are surprised but they're p chill with her after like it's gonna be pretty useful for the terrors they have to conquer next.
