A perfect balance between warmth and cold - that's Hugh. Those who know him know that he's a caring, kind and thoughtful person. But due to his constant efforts to stay serene, he gives an icy and distant first impression. However, one must not confuse this contrast in personality with being two-faced. On the contrary: he's very frank. He would never hide anything. He doesn't even blink while talking about his deepest thoughts. In return, he expects the same honesty from others. He goes to the point of not understanding why someone would lie about anything. In consequence, he believes in others too much and always offers the benefit of the doubt. It's easy to fool him.
He also likes to help his peers and be useful to them. Therefore, he doesn't mind when he's given extra work or when he's asked big favors. In fact, he prefers to manage everything rather than let someone more clumsy take care of things. That's because he's highly thorough, analytical, and systematic. Whenever he must face a great challenge, he's able to break it down into small and manageable baby steps. He's a highly efficient individual. That's both an advantage and a disadvantage. On the bright side, this means one can leave Hugh alone without fearing that he might procrastinate or have problems with anything. But the downside is that he despises getting any help since he thinks his methods are better than anyone else's.

About
This is a simple story. Born in a privileged area of Orth, Hugh had an uneventful childhood. His only troubles were gender roles, which denied him anything that wasn't considered manly. But he wasn't the only one. Living a few streets down, a young girl named Hannah was fighting against femininity. Thus, when their paths crossed, they knew that they could be themselves around each other. She could be strong, while he could be weak. She could wear the pants, while he could be a househusband. Not much time had passed before they chose to marry and to have a child named Keira. They were a happy family. Yet, they had forgotten that close to them existed the Abyss. That enormous, hellish hole that invited all nearby humans to die inside it.
In the beginning, only Hannah fell into temptation. Since she was adventurous, she wished to explore the biggest mystery in the world. Therefore, she trained until she became a blue whistle. But her daughter's greed was immense. She begged her mother to take her to the second layer in secret. The woman accepted. Together, they began a raid to descend over 2,000 meters. All was going well. Or that was the case until they heard the squawking sounds of a Hammerbeak. It tweeted and tweeted as if asking to be hunted. The girls didn't think twice. They took their bows and went in the direction of the voice. But when they arrived, they found out the cries weren't of a small bird's. It was of a group of Corpse-Weepers'. They had fooled them.
They didn't have time to process the situation. In a blink of an eye, the animals had gotten Hannah and had begun to tear her muscles apart. The mother wasn't able to defend herself. However, she could still protect her daughter. So, when she saw an opening, she grabbed the little girl and threw her to a safe terrace. She landed on top of sharp rocks that opened a thousand wounds on her body. Yet, she was alive. She wanted to go back to her parent's side, but that wasn't possible anymore. She had perished. The only thing she could do was go back to the surface. And so, she ascended and ascended. She couldn't feel her legs, couldn't stop vomiting, and was suffering from blood loss. But she kept on. She had to reach Orth. Unfortunately, she could only make it to the first layer before she dropped dead on the grass.
The exploration team that found her corpse was in shock. But it was worse for Hugh. He had lost all his family out of a sudden and had only managed to get his daughter's remains back. The man fell into a deep depression. He spent months locked up in his home. The deafening silence kept getting louder by the day. It wasn't until the city got into a rage because of the news about the Final Descent that he raised his head. He had never understood why they loved that cliff so much. He didn't comprehend what was so extraordinary about it. Were the treasures within that marvelous? Did it pay off to risk one's life inside it?

The best example of 'opposites attract'. Hugh and Hannah complemented each other in every way and taught each other to be the best version of themselves. They had a strong, trust-based relationship.

Because she was very mischievous and rebellious, Keira would give her father quite a few daily heart attacks. Still, that meant she made his days more fun. Hugh misses her voice a lot.

Hugh thinks that the woman is a funny, adorable, and interesting person. Both of them can spend hours joking about anything, speaking about trivial matters and teasing each other. They have a lot in common.
Norman Forrestal [ acquaintance ]
Even though his anxiety makes him nervous, Hugh admires how far Norman has come. On the other hand, Norman thinks that Hugh is a polite and kind person. They respect each other.
Su Hua [ acquaintance ]
Because she's very closed off, Hugh doesn't have any opinions about Su Hua. Conversely, she likes him because he reminds her of her own father. They have a neutral relationship.
Dylan Chester [ friend ]
The man believes that Dylan is a good boy due to his ability to empathize, and how he always attentively listens to his troubles. Even though Dylan finds it weird that Hugh is so forgiving, he's one of the people he feels closest to.
Ravi Bhandari [ friend ]
Hugh sees the younger one as a little kid. That's why he always plays along to her jokes and makes sure she's okay. Likewise, Ravi tells him everything that happens to her and blabbers on about all kinds of things.
Eryn Automne [ acquaintance ]
Hugh has barely interacted with Eryn. However, she's left the impression of someone who's easily scared and with the head in the clouds. Yet, also someone kind and with a sense of humor. He's worried about her parents.
Paris Johansson [ acquaintance ]
Due to her sharp tongue and her rude personality, Hugh commonly calls out Paris. Nonetheless, he finds himself entertained by her and picks on her for that reason. She has learned to give up.
Fei Chenge [ acquaintance ]
Hugh has a good opinion of Chenge. He believes he's mature and that he has emotional intelligence. He trusts that he will take care of the girls. The young man thinks something similar about him, as he sees him as a papa bear.
Elise Jung [ acquaintance ]
Thanks to Elise's outgoing attitude, Hugh feels comfortable around her. He allows himself to speak more than usual. Since they have a similar sense of humor, they get along well despite not interacting much.

Una mezcla perfecta entre lo cálido y lo gélido: ese es Hugh. Aquellos que le conocen saben que es una persona cariñosa, amable y atenta, mas debido a sus constantes esfuerzos por mantener la compostura acaba dando un aire tosco y duro. Pero no hay que confundir ese contraste con ser doble cara. Al contrario: es muy honesto. Jamás ocultaría nada. Ni siquiera tiene inconvenientes con explayarse en sus sentimientos más profundos. A cambio espera la misma sinceridad de los demás, al punto de que no comprende porqué nadie mentiría sobre algo. Así pues, cree demasiado en la gente y siempre ofrece el beneficio de la duda. Es fácil engañarle.
También le gusta ayudar a sus prójimos y sentirse útil. Por ende, no le importa hacer trabajo extra ni favores grandes. Incluso prefiere encargarse de todo a que alguien más torpe se ocupe. Esto se debe a que es bastante minucioso, metódico y sistemático. Ante un gran reto, es capaz de partirlo en una lista de tareas pequeñas y manejables. Es un varón altamente eficiente. De esto se saca una ventaja y un inconveniente. El lado bueno es que es posible dejar a Hugh solo sin temor a que procrastine ni que tenga problemas. Lo malo es que detesta aceptar ayuda, creyendo que sus métodos son mejores que los del resto.

Casco con linterna
Objeto esencial para todos los Delvers. Protege de la cabeza de caídas, desprendimiento de rocas y alumbrar el camino en la oscuridad.
Cantimplora
Botella de piel, cuero o metal para rellenar agua.
Navaja corta
Esencial también para todo Delver. Rebana piel, corteza, para cocinar y como último mecanismo de defensa.
Saco de dormir
Plegable y fácilmente acomodable en el suelo. No ocupa mucho sitio en la mochila y abriga bien contra las frías noches.
Binoculares
Utensilios hechos de madera para la visión ocasional a lugares muy alejados. Las lupas de los cristales pueden llegar a visualizar nítidamente hasta una distancia de 50 metros.
Caja de cerillas
Una pequeña caja de cerillas con un total de 50 para encender hogueras.
Mosquetones
Acompañados de la cuerda y el cinturón para escaladas y en general sistemas de seguridad para evitar caídas o dormir en árboles.

Historia
Esta es una historia simple. Nacido en una zona privilegiada de Orth, Hugh tuvo una infancia apacible. Su única adversidad fueron los roles de género, que le negaban todo aquello que no fuera considerado varonil. Paralelamente, una muchacha llamada Hannah varias calles abajo luchaba contra la feminidad. Por ello, cuando sus caminos se cruzaron, inmediatamente supieron que junto al otro podían ser ellos mismos. Ella podía ser fuerte, mientras que él podía ser frágil. Ella podía traer el dinero, entretanto él se podía encargar del hogar. No tardaron en casarse y tener a una pequeña bautizada como Keira. Eran una familia feliz. No obstante, se habían olvidado que cerca de ellos se hallaba el abismo. Aquél gran agujero infernal que invitaba a todos los humanos a morir en su interior.
En un inicio, únicamente cayó en la tentación Hannah. Intrépida como sólo ella era, aspiraba a explorar el mayor misterio del mundo. Por ello, entrenó para convertirse en un silbato azul. Pero el anhelo de su hija era superior. Ella le suplicó a su madre que la llevase a escondidas hasta la segunda capa. La adulta aceptó, y juntas realizaron una incursión de más de 2.000 metros de profundidad. Todo iba correctamente. O, al menos, así fue antes de escuchar el graznido de un pico de martillo, piando y piando como si pidiese que lo cazasen. Las chicas no se hicieron de rogar. Tomaron sus arcos y se dirigieron a donde la voz les llamaba; mas, al arribar, comprobaron horrorizadas que el crascitar no procedía de la insignificante ave, sino de un llorón de cadáveres en manada. Habían sido engañadas.
No tuvieron tiempo para procesar la situación. Antes de que se dieran cuenta, los animales ya se habían abalanzado hacia Hannah y habían comenzado a despellejarla. La mujer no fue capaz defenderse. Sin embargo, aún tenía la capacidad de proteger a su hija. Por ende, en cuanto vio la oportunidad tomó a la chiquilla y la arrojó a una plataforma segura. Ella aterrizó encima de rocas afiladas que le abrieron mil heridas, mas salió viva. Quiso volver al lado de su progenitora, pero ya no era posible. Había perecido. Lo único que podía hacer ahora era regresar a la superficie. Así, subió y subió. Continuó ascendiendo incluso cuando no sentía sus piernas, cuando no paraba de vomitar y cuando se desangraba; debía llegar a Orth. Lamentablemente, sólo pudo alcanzar la primera capa antes de caer muerta sobre la hierba.
El equipo de exploración que descubrió su cuerpo tuvo un verdadero choque. Pero peor fue para Hugh recibir la noticia. Había perdido a toda su familia de golpe, y sólo recuperó los restos de su niña. El hombre se sumió en una profunda depresión. Estuvo meses encerrado en su morada, cada día notando más el ensordecedor silencio de una casa vacía. No fue hasta que la ciudad se revolucionó con el anuncio sobre el Descenso Final que el varón finalmente alzó la cabeza. Nunca había entendido porqué a ellas les apasionaba tanto aquél despeñadero. No comprendía qué había de extraordinario en él. ¿Tan grandiosas eran las maravillas en su fondo? ¿Tanto valía la pena arriesgar su vida dentro?

El mejor ejemplo de "los polos opuestos se atraen". Hugh y Hannah se complementaban en todo ámbito y se enseñaban mutuamente a ser mejores personas. Tenían una relación fuerte y basada en la confianza.

Debido a que era bastante traviesa y rebelde, Keira le solía dar bastantes ataques al corazón a su padre a diario. Aún así, eso significaba que le hacía los días más interesantes. Hugh echa mucho de menos su voz.
