About

Oblibreo's name wasn't always Oblibreo. Before the Brandshock, his name was Cistoreo, and he was simply a humble historian, closed up in his elarborate library and happily archiving away. He authored many books on the histories of various planets, and kept his library not only neat and organized, but draped in elegance and comfort. Red fluffy cushions on chairs, large couches, silken curtains; Cistoreo saw no reason why the building itself couldn't also be a work of art. After the Brandshock, his view on history warped drastically, and he began seeing it as nothing more than a record of the suffering of the past, doomed to cause future suffering in all who read it. He burned down his library, turning the entire thing to ash, and changed his name to Oblibreo to reflect his new views on life. He then set out on his campaign to not only wipe out all life in the universe, as the Vani god Greyven commanded, but to wipe out all record of the past as well. After all, if there's nothing but a blank slate for a past, then the past can't cause any suffering, now can it?

Oblibreo genuinely believes that what he is doing, he is doing for the greater good, and cannot be reasoned with. He goes out of his way to kill - or "mercy" - any children he comes across, as he cannot stand the idea of letting them continue suffering in life. He was the one who wiped out all of the microvani (the derogative post-Brandshock slang for Vani kids) in Stygia's care, despite all of her frantic attempts to stop him. He intended on killing Stygia as well, as he thought it beyond cruel to mercy the kids and leave their caretaker to suffer without them, but she ended up surviving the grevious injuries he inflicted on her. That was a rather nasty surprise for him later down the line.

Another Vani named Wodrustchie has a makeshift machine known as the Library of Dreams, which is a catalogue of all the history and knowledge of the world. Oblibreo genuinely HATES IT, as its a painful reminder not only of his own library, but also stands in the face of everything he is working for. He vowed that even if it was the last thing he did, he would see that library destroyed. Unfortunately (for him), he was killed before he could ever make that a reality (though he did come close on several occasions).

Boss

When fighting Oblibreo, it's important to know that his elemental quirk is ash. As he can turn things to ash at a touch, its best to fight him at range. However, he's faster than he looks, and will easily and quickly close the distance between himself and his prey. As for his elemental abilities, the more complex something is, the harder it is for him to turn it to ash. So while he can take out, say, stone in a single touch, a living creature like humans or other Vani is harder and more piecemeal. Oblibreo tends of rely on firing a sweeping beam of what appears to be light from an open mouth when he needs to hit something at long range, though don't be fooled into thinking that's his only ranged attack. As if all of this wasn't already bad enough, Oblibreo is used to fighting Stygia, who's a time traveler. He's very quick to pick up on things and adjust on the fly. In short, the best strategy against Oblibreo is to aim for his weak spot - the large, ram-like horns on his head - and snipe them from a distance, preferably before he even realizes you're there.

Trivia

1) Originally, I thought I'd be happy with just my two Vani, but then Snaggletooth was talking about their history element and the idea of a history-ERASING Vani struck, and things just kind of snowballed from there.

2) I came up with lore for Oblibreo, including his rivalry and eventual death at the hands of Wodrustchie, Penumbra EbonyMoth’s Vani, before he actually had a proper design OR EVEN A NAME XD

3) He is destined to become a scarf worn around his nemesis's neck and it is hilarious.

4) He's designed to look like a mashup of various mythical creatures, taking inspiration from the Greek chimera and the Norse endbringers Fenrir and Jörmangandr.

5) Oblibreo's name was literally the last part of his design to be finalized.

Spottdrossel

[ relationship ] Even as Cistoreo, he and Spottdrossel did NOT get along. Spottdrossel considered everyone else beneath him, and never failed to get on Cistoreo's nerves. After the Brandshock, Spottdrossel barely changed, while Cistoreo deteriorated into Oblibreo. Naturally, they STILL don't get along. The incident where Oblibreo attacked Spottdrossel while undercover just highlights his issues with the other Vani: he's arrogant, never admits it when he's wrong, and is just flat out aggravating. He laughed when he found out about Spottdrossel being engoldened, and felt that was exactly what the other Vani deserved.

Stygia

[ relationship ] Oblibreo actually feels bad for Stygia. He planned on mercying her and the micros under her care in one fell swoop so none of them would have to suffer longer without the others, but failed. She's become twisted by the suffering he caused, and actively fights against their mission of salvation in a misguided attempt at sparing them from what happened to her. She can't see anymore that the true mercy is in death, and there's no saving her now. Oblibreo entirely blames himself for this, and is determined to fix his screwup by putting her down. It's his fault that she's suffered for so long, so it should be him who puts it to rights.

Fallecine

[ relationship ] He fought Fallecine once, trying to get to Stygia. The larger Vani thought it hilarious that Oblibreo's attack entirely dissolved into chasing Stygia around Fallecine's bulk. When Fallecine made no move to help him, even after repeated requests do to so, Oblibreo lost his temper and attacked him. He couldn't understand why Fallecine tolerated their former teammate's presence, not after what she did. He probably should've figured he screwed up when Stygia's response was to immediately run for the hills - run, not fly, as her wing was injured at the time. As for the fight, well...let's just say it didn't entirely end well for him. He's gained a healthy respect for the larger Vani since then - as well as personal space.
