Ryu is Demi's father; initially tricked into having her, as soon as he knew of her existence and intended fate, he immediately did what he could to whisk her away. He raised her for a number of years to the best of his abilities, but in the end, his past caught up to him and he was brutally murdered.
However, due to the latent powers/curse in his blood, he re-awoke just as he drew his last breath, a new time and place, with only hazy memories of his past.
He works as an international agent on some kind of law enforcement and investigations team.

-Ryu is an immortal, it's part of his bloodline curse. When he dies, he will simply "wake up" in a new location, though it's unknown how long it actually takes for this even to occur.
-He is not a complete amnesiac. He recalls some details from past lives lived. Generally, he can recall bigger picture details, but finer details aside from some odds and ends, will escape him. For example, he may recall he lived in Italy at some point, but he likely can't recall the exact location his home was beyond a specific city. He retains some "autopilot" type information as well. Example: He may not remember his exact favorite foods or places to eat, but he will find himself drawn to them inexplicably. Or he may not recall how to perfectly speak a language, but he may recall some frequent phrases and have a kind of innate understanding of what someone is trying to convey to him. He remembers his name, and though he may not fully remember his closest friends, he can generally recognize them as an important/helpful/trustworthy person.
