NOTES

  • They’ve developed a whole secret sign language, just so they can cheat at cards.
  • They’re both touchy-feely af when it comes to affection, and they will show that all the time in ways that range from soft, to rowdy to crusty.
  • Deep talks between these two tend to happen at night on some garbage bags behind a Burger Wizard, and usually under the pretence of “just wanting to get drunk and smoke some cigs, lmao”.
  • They’re both some of the only people that can get a kinda vulnerable (if pretty funny) tsundere-ish side out of the other.

ABOUT

Depending on who you ask, seeing Riff-Raff Nightgaze and Tracy Dick Valentine together might either be a sign that something fun is about to happen, or it's an omen of trouble brewing (possibly even both), with very little in-between. Their reputation as exciting, extroverted, lives of the party, and/or chaotic, troublemaking, menaces are certainly ones they've earned, but there's more to both of them than just that.

They are both each other's ride-or-die, and while that usually means being there for each other during the fun times, they're also there for each other during the less fun times. Solemn contemplation of life choices, concerns about the future, and feelings of inadequacy. They've been through those as well, and know that they can bring these things up to each other, without any judgement from the other. They've both been through some shit and done some stuff that wasn't exactly moral, and neither of them are going to start lecturing the other about right and wrong.

TIMELINE

MEETING

In the 1980s, a young rockstar and a young hitman, both at the height of their careers, yet neither truly happy, met by chance. Tracy, covered in blood and looking scruffy, had no idea who Riff was, despite his international fame. This piqued Riff's curiosity, they struck up a conversation and what started as somewhat of a one-night stand based on physical attraction and curiosity became a solid friendship without judgment and a lot of trust, something both of them had been starved of. They opened up to each other about secrets they had. Riff revealed that he was actually a demon, while Tracy confided that he was a hitman from another dimension. However, their happiness was short-lived as they had to part ways, with no expectation of seeing each other again.

REUNION

Imagine their surprise when they met each other again in the magical realm of Mahou Wando, at Agatha Academy's homecoming dance of all places. They wasted no time reconnecting and catching up, and they seemed to click just as quickly this time as they did before. The next long while was spent exploring a lot of newfound proper freedom, learning how to navigate relationships you intend to keep, actions and consequences, ups and downs and everything in between. Notable events include Riff's attempt to connect with his estranged kid, Tracy's contemplation of becoming a proper detective, a mall break-in to get ice cream in the middle of the night, a whole apocalypse where Riff was turned into a monster, and a Cardverse War brewing in the background that Tracy was going to be dragged into, whether he wanted to or not.

STARS

Speaking of the Cardverse War, when that went from a looming threat to harrowing reality and Tracy had to leave, that was when the star proposal happened. After revealing how much they truly meant to each other, as this might be the final chance to do so, and neither wanted a repeat of their first split where too much was left uncertain and unsaid, Tracy left for the impending fight with a promise: If he managed to make it back, he'd wanna be his star. And Riff sent him off with confirmation that he'd accept that offer, when, not if, he made it back.

After a gruelling week of waiting, Tracy did indeed come back, the two became stars, and they are now back to fucking around and finding out, as they navigate their lives of having fun and making choices that may not always be wise, but always their own.
