NOTES

  • Riff is the only person in Mahou Wando who knows Margurerite's true name.
  • Marguerite thinks Riff's eyes are cute, and they're one of her favourite things about him
  • Mar will often be floating next to Riff, with her arms around his neck like the world's most expensive scarf.
  • They’ve gotten very good at coordinating the expensive scarf-thing so when Riff stands up, Mar will float without them having to say anything first. They almost never mess up. Almost.
  • They wear matching sun-bracelets. The charm on the bracelets will gently vibrate when the other person touches the charm on their bracelet.
  • They’ve both learnt morse code to communicate with each other by tapping their bracelets.

ABOUT

At first glance, Riff-Raff Nightgaze and Marguerite Novalise might just come off as a shallow celebrity couple, who are primarily together to look great on magazine covers. And even though they really do look amazing together on those covers, that has never been a reason for them to become a couple (if anything, it's just a nice bonus). They both very genuinely care for each other and feel very comfortable and free in each other's company. There is no judgement between them (they save that for the people with ugly clothes and bad hair who they gossip about on their dates), and they can relax and be themselves in each others' company.

With both of them being fun-loving extroverts, they spend a lot of time at parties, bars, amusement parks, and other places where one might find a lot of other people. But they also both savour the quiet moments, going to cafés or lounging about at home, where they just get to enjoy each other's company.

TIMELINE

POTION PARTY

While the two MaWa superstars had crossed paths previously, the first meeting they had that hinted at a possibility for them to become closer, was an incident at a potion party. It started out perfectly normal, with Riff being his reckless self, chugging as many potions as he could get his hands on, and Margurite enabling this by cheering him on and handing him more potions. However, when the party kinda went south, with the room flooding, and Riff ending up feeling sick from the potions, Mar, instead of just watching him stumble around in the water for amusement, decided to help him out instead. A small gesture of kindness, perhaps, but still.

TWISTER

The first "proper" meetup they had, where it was just the two of them, was a game of Twister in Marguerite's bedroom. This came about because they both thought it would be hilarious to be able to say that they had played bedroom Twister, and correct people when they'd assume it was an innuendo and not literally a game of Twister on Mar's bed. After making the game slightly more interesting by adding a "two truths and a lie" aspect to it, giving the winner of the game a free wish, and Riff trying to cheat and make Mar lose her balance by kissing her (a plan that backfired and caused him to fall instead), by the end of it, they had made plans to go on a date.

CAFÉ

That date was at a café and was spent doing a lot of playful flirting and people-watching. And enjoying each others' company, of course. They both got confirmed that there was a spark between them, and Marguerite even had a rare flash of emotion. A "cupid arrow", as she'd describe it.

"STAY...? PLEASE...?"

During one of Riff's lowest points (at least in recent times), with very few people to turn to, he went to visit Marguerite, and she let him stay with her for a while. In a time of turbulence and uncertainty, Riff felt safe with her. And she didn't mind being there for him when he needed her.

NAME REVEAL

The next big thing that happened in their relationship, was Riff figuring out Marguerite's true name. It wasn't on purpose. He had never pried into it, respecting her privacy and secrets, but following an incident where Marguerite got split into the angel and demon components of herself, and immediately experienced a medical emergency, Riff was able to guess what her name was. As this was something with a great deal of power to it, Riff offered to try and get rid of his memory of her name. But Marguerite, after getting over the initial concern about someone knowing her name, decided to trust him with that knowledge, as long as he promised not to use it around anyone else. Riff has never broken that promise.

SPONTANEOUS SUN PROPOSAL

What lead to them officially becoming suns, was a wedding party. After Riff caught the wedding bouquet, a Fairyland tradition meant that he and Marguerite got to write a letter to each other, that would be revealed to them on their wedding day. Riff, not quite comfortable with the idea of marriage, had a bit of a crisis, since he was very much aware that Marguerite dreamed of getting married. Worried that he was holding her back from living her dream life, the two had a talk. A talk that ended with Riff getting the spontaneous idea to propose a sunship. Not a marriage, but something else. Something that could be whatever they wanted it to be. A promise to each other. Marguerite agreed to see where that promise would take them, and they have been having a great time with it so far.
