About

CJ, or "KT" as he prefers to be known, is an extremely interesting person beyond his protective exterior. His entire life he had been fascinated with all different fascets of art, and in high school he took as many creative elective classes as they would let him. For a long time, his passion manifested as drawing little things for his best friend and crush Franky, as well as his family and other friends. If you knew him at all you probably had some sort of trinket he made especially for you. As Franky and KT grew closer they started to bond through listening to music together and trying to make their own out of what they liked. At this time KT started to struggle with picking what he wanted to pursue in life, and made the descision very early on in ACIDATA to remain as anonymous as he possibly could out of fear of failiure. He adopted the stage name "KT Skullz", which was inspired by the many doodles Franky would do of skulls all over his homework, and by his childhood pet dog K.T Woof. As part of his stage persona he never showed his face in full, always wearing a mask to obscure it. The skull motif borrowed from Franky would later go on to become the band's permanent and most well known logo.

In KT's pursuit to make an attempt at having this band succeed he had Franky teach him to play drums, something that took him a while to get used to. The only other instrument he has ever played was Clarinet, so this being so hands-on was a big change for him. With time and practice he was able to play above the skill level of Franky, something Franky himself was very proud of him for. It was great seeing things work out so well, especially after he had witnessed Franky's past three bands crash and burn. The longer KT was in Acidata the more and more he felt proud to be apart of it, and he felt weirder and weirder putting on the mask and KT persona every show and interview. Despite this unease with the anonymity he gave to himself, he kept it up out of fear of what would happen if he gave it up. He often felt like he was acting cowardly by not taking full responsibility for his contributions to the band, even though his fellow band members always made sure to credit him, tt was an odd feeling that he could never shake.

KT often wishes that he had spent more time getting to know Sol and Way before the accident. He didn't really ever know what to say when he was around them, they were always in their own little world, murmuring to eachother and in need of no guidance. Luka on the other hand, he was very close to. Luka sometimes even called him CJ, which he didn't appreciate from most people, but it felt like an earnest acknowledgement coming from him. KT does a lot of hindsight thinking now that he's alone. Sometimes Rory and Mars from Midge come to visit him and have dinner with him, but otherwise he feels extremely alone. He is lucky enough to have the money to afford to keep his and Franky's shared apartment and pay for his personal medical bills and for his sweet wheelchair, but it often seems to hurt more that he's still here in the same place he was before, but just without Franky. There are some items of Frankys still sitting in the same place they were when they left for tour in 1999, the dust heavy on top like dirt, buried in the memories he didn't want to re-live.

In the years since the accident he has tried to become less closed off, attending music events, events for the high school him, Luka, and Franky graduated from, and painting outside at parks, but he can't seem to remove the mask from his face. It's always felt too raw. Every time he's in public his face must be obscured. It's not like people didnt know who he was, a simple look in the class of '83 yearbook could tell you, but even eighteen years later it didn't hurt any less. It felt as though keeping "KT Skullz" from ACIDATA alive was one of the only things saving "CJ Murphey" from self implosion. Who was he now? He didn't know. It often made him spiral, causing his art to take on moody and often times freaky attributes. He didn't share those pieces, though. He's tried a lot of things over the years to make himself at peace; therapy, music, music therapy, reading, writing, painting, drawing, etc. but as much at it helped, it couldn't fully remove the guilt he felt.
